Solve : Unable to Open .NEF files.?

Answer»

Hi,
Because of a memory card ERROR, i was unable to ACCESS my raw(.nef) and Jpeg files. i have managed to recover them using stellar and other software.
But, the files don't open anywhere. I have tried - stellar, irfanview, viewfx, picasa, PS6 and other small softwares. No luck.

Error message - " could not complete your request because its not the right kind of document " (PS6) AND " Decode Error. Not a valid RAW file " (Irfanview)

Please help Perhaps the following reference will help: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fileextensions/f/nef-file.htmIt is possible that the files which were supposedly "recovered" are in fact corrupted. When the file system on a flash device such as a memory card is damaged, then important information can get damaged or destroyed. Often some information remains - the starting location and the file size. Most recovery programs just look at the starting location and the size of the file and SIMPLY copied that many clusters in a ROW from the start. This works fine if the files are stored in a single, contiguous block (i.e., defragmented), but if they were fragmented, then their blocks are spread out around the DISK or memory card and the program has absolutely no way to know where/which ones to use. Most of the corrupted recovered files will have at least one cluster's worth of correct data, but then contain whatever happened to be in the subsequent clusters that used to belong to other files. This means that the original files are effectively lost. Having said that, some people have had success with a program called PhotoRec, which searches a bit more thoroughly for file fragments, but even so complete recovery of all files may not be possible.
