Solve : Unable to play avi files using media player 10 in vista?

Answer»

Hi everyone

I recently installed Windows vista ultimate Service pack 1 in my system. it is a 32 bit operating system that has the Windows media player on it. The problem that I'm experiencing is about being unable to play avi files using the Windows media player 10. I have another player installed which is VLC and it can play avi files fine. However, i'm wondering why Windows media player cannot play avi files. Does anyone have a possible solution for this issue for Windows Media player 10 being unable to play AVI files? THANKS in advanced, any reply would be appreciated. Install codecs: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5326thanks for the reply Broni, however, i FORGOT to MENTION that i already tried installing those codecs from that website before posting the question here, however same issue is occuring unfortunately. All I can say, I don't use WMP at all, because I think, it's a piece of junk. Quote from: Broni on June 14, 2009, 01:42:04 PM

, Does anyone has a different USEFUL answer? Sorry for my terms.Three things...

1. You sure you have windows media player 10 and not Windows media player 11 (why you still have windows media player 10? I thought windows vista came with windows media player 11 default> At least my vista home premium did)

2. try klite codec pack, downloadable from following link below, I have been using it without any problems, and klite codec pack always updated routinely by the guys who works on this pack so it's always up to date.

3. Klite codec pack comes with all the codecs you need to play 99% of all the major video types you have and it also comes with media player classic which I personally do like to use. VLC, although not bad, has its own set of codecs with its software to handle the video files.

DEPENDING on how these files were encoded, you might need the DivX or Xvid codec to view them. Also, you could try VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org) which will play just about anything.Quote from: quaxo on June 14, 2009, 11:15:15 PM

Quaxo, original poster already tried VLC and it is not causing problem. It's Windows Media Player having the problem! Quote from: 2x3i5x on June 14, 2009, 11:17:29 PM

Oops, missed that part.@Quaxo it's all good, so now, we have to see what happens when the original poster tries out the latest suggestions and klite codec pack already comes with codecs able to play avi files regardless of whether it's encoded via xvid or divx.

@ Gean Freaks ... hope you get WMP to work, again might give klite codec pack a try and also why version 10, when version 11 comes default on vista already?
