Answer» i tried wmp10, but i dont get how it works and there are LINES on the lower quarter of the screen. i tried DIVX, but i dont think its for DVD's. i also tried NVDVD but it sucked, some kind of error message. so could ANYONE please recommend a good DVD player ?PowerDVD and WinDVD are the most common commercial programs. I have used both and they are similar and good.
You frequently get a copy of one or the other when you buy a retail DVD, DVDRW, or CD/DVD combo drive. If you want a completely free player, you could try VLC Media Player. It is extremely competent at all sorts of things, including STREAMING media over a LAN. It also plays DVDs.
I've not personally tried it, but it's free, so why not give it a shot? There's a >fairly active forum< where you can find more out about the player, and get help.
Having read through the huge feature set, I'm going to download it myself. Looks pretty impressive.ill give vlc media player a shot... i hope it supports surround sound.
thanks for the info guys. Yes it does. As I said, it is astonishingly competent. The interface is not as slick as the commercial offerings, though.UPDATE: I am blown away by VLC Media Player. It hasn't yet made it to version 1, but already does a lot of things that my version of WinDVD PLATINUM doesn't do. The interface is a bit bland and quite text-based, but the lack of bloat shows. This is very quick, clever software, and I'm adding it to the Software FAQ immediately.
