Answer» Okay, I have this problem. My ex made this computer for me and he decided to be an idiot and spell my name wrong. So now everytime I use MS-DOS or whenever I view my c:/ drive it says "ARILLE" instead of "ARIELLE" is there any WAY that I can fix this? It's just becoming bothersome more and more every day.Hi Arielle,
What is it you are trying to change? Your account name, computer name or registered owners name?the name of the computer
you know when you open ms-dos and it says the name of your computer after c:/
i want it to say "arielle" instead of "arille"
i tried changing the accout name didn't work, i tried changing it manually by going to "my computer" and click the c-drive and renaming it and it doesn't work
i just want to change it without having to REINSTALL everything again
X_XArielle - please please tell us what OS you are using. You mention MS-DOS so is it safe to assume you are NOT running XP??oh sorry, i meant command prompt, i forgot that there was a difference
but yea im running XPIf your command prompt is logged into the c: drive either you're seeing your default directory or the label on your c: drive. If it's your default directory, use the REN command to change it. Make sure you're at the root level (c:\ when you do). If it's the label on your c: drive, use LABEL command to change it.
You can also use "My Computer" (Windows Explorer) for both these tasks.
Maybe this helps. i tried the REN command but it keeps saying "syntax command incorrect" is there a certain way to input it into the command_prompt?label c:\arielleokay it CHANGED the c:\ in "my computer" to arielle but in command_prompt it stayed the same (arille), why wont it change there? Is there an autoexec.bat file loading somewhere, or autoexec.nt? Search for it.
if present and it says "prompt Arille" anywhere, change it to prompt $P$GIf you want to change the computer name just right click on My Computer> 'right' click properties> click the computer name tab and change the name!Control panel, User Accounts, Pick a Task, Change an Account, username.
