Answer» What software do movie makers use to make movies?
Would they use SOMETHING LIKE Sony Vegas? Or something more sophisticated?
I am not to sure but Sony Vegas is a very very good program !Avid have been used in a lot of big BUDGET movies. Check their customer list. http://www.avid.com/profiles/
I think Sony Vegas is targeted more at amateur/low budget productions.VirtualDub is useful

Then there's old Windows Movie Maker which you should find in Accessories...
And ADOBE Premiere is good too.
I use ffmpeg/mencoder for all the conversion/encoding though.Try Camtasia Its fully functional for 30 days and you can do anything you want from making videos to blending videos together, or cropping them etc.
