Answer» No...you don't need them... When I chose Linux, it looks like I can immediately burn a CD.Yes.Everything is LOOKING up this morning! Last night I could not make a rescue CD because I got a message saying I needed to install a DVD or other erasible media. All I had was a CD-R. I tried again this morning and it worked. Go figure. I made a Macrium rescue CD using the CD-R. It said to check the compatibility of the rescue CD by using it to boot-up after COMPLETELY powering down computer. I did that and it seemed to boot-up fine. It took me to the Macrium Image restore Wizard. I clicked next and got the dialog box asking me which partiton I wanted to restore and where I wanted it restored. So, I guess all is well. You guys are the greatest. I wish I had a more fundamental understanding of what is going on so I didn't have to ask so many silly questions, but all seems to be well now. Patio, why do you bother to make a DVD of the back-up image you create on your external HD? I uninstalled BartPE but I wonder if the multitude of plug-in files I created are still on my computer? Should I search for them and DELETE them? Thanks. Quote Patio, why do you bother to make a DVD of the back-up image you create on your external HD? A few reasoms but i'll explain my backup regimin 1st... I create an image every Sunday night to the external. Once a Month i burn the latest image to a DVD and store it and delete all but the latest one. This accomplishes 2 things....it frees up space on the external for new images... It also gives me a hard copy backup in case of a HDD failure...double redundancy... After all any HDD can fail...even external ones. Thanks Patio. Do you compress your back-up image before you copy to DVD? I assume there is a way to do that.I do NOT....i also refrain from running any disk management tools including defrag on a HDD that has stored images... Bad Ju-Ju...Quote from: patio on April 05, 2011, 11:33:39 AM I do NOT....i also refrain from running any disk management tools including defrag on a HDD that has stored images...Quote Juju or Ju-Ju is a word of West African origin, derived from the French JOUJOU (toy)Was that "explanation" really necessary, Geek-9pm?Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 05, 2011, 05:07:24 PM Was that "explanation" really necessary, Geek-9pm?Just want to be helpful. EDIT: Maybe I should have said: 'I agree with Patio in principal, because backup storage is now very low cost. Therefore the extra step of compression adds a level of needless compromise to the objective.' |
