Solve : Which software program will do this??

Answer»

Hi, everyone.  I'm new to the forums here, and I'm hoping you can help answer a question.

I've developed an interest in wine recently, and I'm looking for a program to help categorize information not about specific wines but about varietals, regions, etc.  I want to create many different pages/cards, one for each year, each varietal, each country, etc. (which I can do with Word or Notepad) but I'd also like them to be part of one large file.  I'm thinking of a program that shows a list of all the pages, say, running down one side of the screen so if I want to move between different pages I can just click on the shortcut to the page without having to open and close individual files.  This way the entire database is one file, and I have quick access to each individual page.

I'm not concerned one way or the other about compatibility with exporting to other programs, so it doesn't matter if it's in a proprietary format or not.  Freeware would be ideal, but I don't mind PAYING less than $50.00 for the perfect program.  I'm running Windows XP.

Is there software that can do this?

Thanks in advance!

ChrisWell, here's a program specifically designed for wine collections, but it costs $75: Wine Organizer Deluxe, v2.7.  You can download a free, fully functional trial version. The trial version will expire 45 days after installation.

Oh, here's some more options that came up from a Google search: http://www.programurl.com/software/wine-database.htmThanks for the suggestions.  I'm looking for something different, though.  I don't want a program to track my collection; I'd like a collection to KEEP track of information as I described above.  It happens to be wine years, varietals, countries, etc. that I'd like to track, but it could be anything, not wine specifically.

Does anyone know of a program that can save multiple pages as part of a SINGLE file that provides a toolbar with one-click access to any page?

Thanks,

ChrisYou could CHECK out Treepad Lite which is free. Treepad Lite does not support images which may be a deal breaker. It uses a interface that looks suspiciously like Windows Explorer.

Excel and Access can both support what you want to do, but they can be quite complex and are CERTAINLY not free (not even cheap).

Good luck.  8-)Thanks!  That program looks like it could be what I'm looking for.

I have both Excel and Access but I haven't figured out how to use them to do what I want.  Perhaps I should look at them again.

Thanks for the help!

Chris
