Solve : Why does my office say it is not a genuine copy??????

Answer»

Hello and thank you for looking at my thread today.

I have a computer with WinXP PRO SP3 Celeron 2.8 and 1.5 Gig of RAM. I have had this old thing for many years and it works quite well. So I put my old disk in the drive to load Microsoft word on to it and it all works OK. So I most likely upgraded to the office CD....
There was something about having AN office APPLICATION on the drive to upgrade to office, is why I put word and excel on it.

Recently (like a year ago matbe longer) it comes up with "This copy of Office in not genuine."

Mind you , I dont use this computer much... but it is annoying every time that I try to use these programs to have the Genuine advantage crap thrust upon me.

How can I get rid of this @#*&$#@ every time I start to use it.

Thank you ImnoGuru. The one thing i have DISCOVERED doing research on your behalf is that this issue can be one VERY tough nut to crack. However i did FIND something (really gets interesting at ENTRY #17) that put that poster on the track to correction.

I suggest that you read the thread from the start to see all the input and then my advice would be to await input from more qualified CH members (there certainly are some) that can advise you on the desirability and safety of following the suggestion beginning at post #17. Good luck, truenorthThanks again truenorth, this is the very problem I am having... I have just put up with it for so long... and now it is really annoying me.
I finally got some time to myself to fix a few things about the place.

Hmmm... some more reading ... well I'll learn a bit more about computers I guess, anyway its way too cold here for painting. Here is the KB article at MS on the issue....
I'd use the 800# and get it re-activated...as it's a known issue with Office.

Best of Luck.
