Solve : win/2000/pro-win98?

Answer»

i have 2 computers with w2000pro and need to put w98 instead. but unable to erase w2p. where do i start ?? do i need to reformat or petition ? computers CAME with w2p from gateway. ( and bankrupt finantial group).
thanks jerryjpokert.......ok .......do you have as win98 boot disk ?
If you dont .....beg , borrow or steal one ......or D/l one from bootdisk.com......

Then put the boot disk in the floppy drive and at the A: prompt ........ type format C: and press enter .......you should see the warning message that if you CONTINUE all data etc on C drive will be lost ....do you wish to continue . answer yes and hit enter

now it should begin to erase all from the hard drive .
When its finished you are now ready to install whatever OPERATING sysem you wish .

Why would you want to put win98 on those machines ?
win Xp is a whole lot more STABLE .

THANKS FOR THE INFO, IT WILL HELP ALOT.
REASON FOR USING WIN/98 IS THAT I HAVE 98 & 98SE & ON A SET INCOME THANKS AGAIN. JERRYused win 98 bootdisk and it did work untell the following come up...format c: format cannot run becuse the volume is in use by another process. format may run if volume is dismounted first.
all open handles would then be invaled.
would you like to forse a dismount on this volume? y/n.

if i try (y) it gos back to the desktop ?
thanks jerryjpokert.....Thats odd...run thru exactly what you did in detail.

dl65 DOWNLOADED BOOTDISK FROM WEB DID NOT LET ME RUN ?, RUN A 95 DOOTDISK BUT I COULD NOT GET PAST THE ABOVE (FORMAT C:) READING. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS AT THE TOP THE SCREEN WAS --TYPE OF FILE IS NTFS---- IS THERE A DIFFERANCE BETWEEN 98 AND 95 BOOTDISK ?/ THESE COMPUTERS ARE EX SECURITIES UNITS AND HAD WIN/2/P SHIPED WITH THEN WILL THIS MAKE A DIFFERANCE??- THAY WERE ON A NETWORK, WILL HARD DRIVE PINS NEED TO BE CHANGED. ( MASTER, SLAVE, ETC ) THANKS JERRYTry typing FDISK instead of format c

FDISK is the program on the floppy bootdisk A and Format is the program on C which won't allow you to wipe C because this will be in use the moment you type format and open the programFDISK it from the command prompt....

c:>FDISK
this command will open up your partition info....

select option to delete partition, and delete your active partition.....it should wipe it clean then.... this woulod be the way for you to do it unless you had Part-Zap on a floppy.....with that program you could erase it with one command
