Solve : Win 98 Second Edition CD?

Answer»

Is Windows 98 CD a bootable CD?

I have Windows 98 SE copied to a CD, but I cannot boot my computer with it ( when there is a booting problem, or when my boot floppy is damaged).

Generally I prefer it handy to be able to boot from a CD because floppies are vulnerable to be damaged.

The fact is that some are and some aren't. It depends on if it was an UPGRADE or full install, and if it was OEM or a "real" copy. This has been bantered about on various boards, but I have SEEN them both ways, so it is not just an opinion!

A win98 Boot Floppy can resolve it either way and give you peace of mind.

The question here is that a real Microsoft CD? or did you just copy some files from somewhere to the CD? Your post didn't make that clear. If the latter, it will never work right.
You need a genuine CD the START off... Second, try going on the internet and downloading a boot disk for 98 SE... Also, I don't know if this was just a simple error of yours, but first you asked if a 98 CD was bootable... You later said that you are using 98 SE... Please confirm if this was an error.

[glb]Flame[/glb]Hi GX1

I asked a hardware personnel to copy win98 SE to a CD and he did that. So obviously it is not a
real one.

I don't know if it is copied from a real microsoft CD, or whether every files have been copied
but i can install win 98 SE quite well from this CD ( the CD where 98 SE is copied) and have installed many times.

I can also perform surface scan of h disk with this CD.

Is there any difference in that internet download? I can also make a boot disk by going through

Control PANEL ----- Add remove Programs ------ startup disk ---Create disk

By 98 CD I meant to say 98 SE CD, because I heard before that a 98 SE CD is bootable.

In that case create one and see what happens.... It sounds like your "professional" is not as good as once thought...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Make your boot disk with CDRom support and place it in the jewel case with the CD. They will both fit nicely, always be available, and you will have all your bases covered. And most of all watch out for the Mirosoft police!!! If outsie the US, watch out for INTERPOL.
