Solve : Windows 7 ultimate OEM?

Answer»

I purchased WINDOWS 7 Ultimate OEM version. I was unaware when I bought it that it was for builders.
Now I have it and would like to INSTALL.
I put a new hard drive in my computer and I reformatted it with HP system recovery discs.
HP told me that the W 7 discs will not install (ever) because it will not match the mother board. They also told me it is illegal.
However, I know they like to keep us buying everything we need from them at inflated prices.
Is there a way to install The OEM version on my computer with out changing the mother board.
Thank you in advance for any helpful advice. You need to buy a retail version of the OS.Quote

Why does this matter?

On top of that HP doesn't know what the heck they're TALKING about....

You own the machine...Period.
You own Win7...Period.

Sorry - I misunderstood the post.Look, it is possible to install the OEM version of an OS even if its manufacturer is different. I personally own a OEM Licence.

Its not illegal if you have paid for the licence. OEM LICENCES can be installed on "n" no. of computer, where "n" is a variable.

It is illegal if you are giving out the OEM Licence by any means, i.e. internet etc. for free. You should never give out an OEM Licence for free. You even dont have the right to sell it.

Try installing, a 90% chance, it will install....... Just the fact it is not illegal if you paid for your licence from an authorized Microsoft distributer.....Quote

No, that's wrong. Per the link Geek-9pm cited, under Transfer of License:
Q. Can my customers transfer or sell their OEM software licenses?
A. After an OEM software license has been installed on a PC, the license may not be installed on or transferred to another PC. However, the entire PC may be transferred to another end user along with the software license rights.

Again, wrong, unless a volume license was purchased, allowing installing on "n" no. of computer. You can't just buy a single user license, which is the case here, and transfer it from one computer to another or simultaneously install it on multiple computers.
