Solve : Windows Live Messenger??

Answer»

Recently I have noticed a large number of files on my c:\ drive they all end with the extension .SQM and were hidden. Now I have done some RESEARCH and I believe they are related to Windows Live Messenger, what I was wondering is ; are these files safe to delete or will that modify my WLM (Windows Live Messenger)? Thanks in advance.

[I use Windows Live Messenger 8.5 beta]Deleting them doesn't affect live messenger, but it will keep on recreating them. For some reason the betas of live messenger creates the sqm files in the root of c:\ while the non betas store them in application data folder in your user folder. Thanks for the speedy reply Deerpark, deleting them won't affect my system in any way then. . However is there any way to stop WLM generating these SQM files? No they're not essential, apparently they're only used for storing QUALITY of SERVICE data (whatever that is). The only way of GETTING rid of them (short of switching to another Instant messenger client) is to stop using the beta. The stable version still creates the files, but stores them in an out of the way folder instead of in the root of C:\.Thanks for the replies Deerpark, all my questions are answered. .
