Answer» Any COMMENTS on the ZoneAlarm firewall problems with the recent WINDOWS update??
I had connectivity problems with my ISP (AOL) - after a couple of expensive calls to their help line they finally told me the problem was with ZoneAlarm. I finally got back online by uninstalling ZoneAlarm. The SECURITY level slider reset to medium did not work. The other solution was to uninstall the update but, although it was shown in Windows update history, I couldn't find it in Add or Remove Programs.
I've now seen plenty of references online about the problem - will we be told when it's safe return to ZoneAlarm? From ZA website. Workaround to Sudden Loss of Internet Access Problemdue it happen to me to so what now that zonealarm off and then install it or what or GET a different zone alarmDid you click the link and read the information? http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/pressReleases/2008/LossOfInternetAccessIssue.html

Option 1: Move Internet Zone slider to Medium

Option 2: Uninstall the hotfix
1. Click the "Start Menu" 2. Click "Control Panel", or click "Settings" then "Control Panel" 3. Click on "Add or Remove Programs" 4. On the top of the add/remove programs dialog BOX, you should see a checkbox that says "show updates". Select this checkbox 5. Scroll down until you see "Security update for Windows (KB951748)" 6. Thanks for all replies and links -
I had seen ZoneAlarm's emailed info. (In my ignorance, I failed to notice the "show updates" box in Add or Remove Programs)
As I had uninstalled ZA, I thought I would abandon them and have now downloaded the free version of Online Armor firewall.
No problems - yet.
Thanks again.Online Armor firewall is a better option in my opinion anyway. Thanks for Evil Pages link.
