Solve : Windows XP sound drivers??

Answer»

Hi,

I need help finding a reliable (and free) source for downloading the proper sound driver compatible with Windows XP.  Any help is greatly appreciated!Get the driver for the web site of the sound card manufacturerOkay.  How do I find out who that is without having to take the computer apart? What's the brand and model of your computer?1) Look in Device Manager
2) Download and RUN Belarc AdvisorOkay...I looked in Device Manager, and it tells me I don't have software installed for the sound card I have.  So apparently it was lost when I had a virus last week and had to re-load Windows XP.  And since we've moved since the last time I had to do this, I can't find the software disk went to this.

Any recommendations on a good audio software that's compatible with Windows XP? Quote from: Allan on July 26, 2010, 05:37:57 AM

In Device manager, Click on the + sign near Sound, video and game controllers and see sound card listed.

if not, it could be listed as unknown device/other device. Right-click on the entry for the "unknown device" and then select "Properties". In the "Properties" window, click on the "Details" TAB and let me know the string displayed under Device ID.

For example: PCI_VEN13782 etc.

This will help you to find the manufacture and name of the sound card. ANd you may find driver LINKS USING the device IDs

May be it helps Hi,

Okay.  Under "Audio Codecs" it says ROOT\MEDIA\MS_MMACM.

Under "Multimedia Audio Controller" it says PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_B0101462&REV_02\3&13C080C5&0&FD.

I think it is Realtek AC 97 Audio, I'm 95% sure it is.

If you have the audio build in to your motherboard you can do a search on that and find some of your drivers.Yay!  Realtek it was, I downloaded it and everything works fine now!  Thanks much, everyone!

Justed turned ON email notification for post replies.

Glad that the issue solved after installing the relatek drivers. The device Ids helps us a lot.
