Answer» I am running Windows XP and WMP 10 on a pentium 4, 2.66 Ghz with400 MB of Ram.... This just started about 2 weeks ago, I had a virus in the computer, and had to refresh windows XP, reload some other software including my Soundblaster card and the problem has been there since... I would like to know the DETAILS of this and how you are sure it is CLEAN now. I have a friend that helped me to do the repair of the XP, and have since run windows defender, smart registry, adaware, and Microsoft Malicious Sofftware Removal.... also last night I loaded WMP 11, and the problem appears to be gone, so I am quite pleased! Thanks for your help What anti-virus program ? ? Windows Defender doesn't qualify as one in my book.I have Mcafee Security CENTRE with Mcafee Virus Portection. I find that every time I search the net, each of my virus detectors find something on the comuter that needs to be cleaned out. Registery Smart always finds something to fix!!! Any suggestions?I was going to test Registry Smart on my squeaky clean testbench machine and it wanted to install something...that's where i stopped. So i can't give a review on the program at this time. If there are that many songs on the machine it's possible that WMP has to rebuild the catalog and this is taking some time... How much free space is on that HDD ? ? Why not categorise most of that 40G of music and burn it to CD/DVD's ? ? patio. 8-)I have about 30 G free still, and I have my collection backed up on an external hard drive. I typically I take the hard drive with me to parties and functions, and run WMP on a laptop, and connect into the host's stereo system with am FM transmitter or RCA jacks into the cd input. I also have a full DJ system that can set up as well, I do the odd singles dance, usually a kids party or two around christmas, and street parties in the summer, and I plug the laptop into my mixer and play different playlists.... I have most of the original CD's on the wall in my music room, but I found it too slow and too much work doing parties/dances using the CD's , so the computer and external hard drive works better for me. I was thinking about geting an IPod, to make things easier to transport, but typically the Ipods have a 2 sewcond delay between songs, and I would have to build my playlists over again in Itunes, so I am not sure I want to duplicate the work that I have already done over the last two years.. your thoughts?? |
