Answer» I have a couple videos on my xp computer that are of the .avi TYPE. I can not play them because I don't have the correct codec pack installed. I found the dvix and installed it, reboot and tried the file. will not work. why program do I use and how do I install it to make it work? thank you. There's a number of different FORMATS and codec packs out there. Codecs can get rather messy.
Try VLC media player instead: http://www.videolan.org/ This free OPEN source media player can play almost everything.
Else get Media Player Classic with the 'K-lite Codec Pack' or 'Essentials Codec Pack'.I tried them all and nothing.if VLC can't play a file, it may very well be corrupt.idk, it's a movie I copied from a dvd to my computer, and it only put it in avi. is there a converter out there I can use then?Bad copy...that says it all. No player in the world will run a converted file not done right,
What EXACTLY is it you want to do and we can advise better...What software where you using? Could be a protected DVD your trying to RiP and it failed or corrupted? If it's a DVD from Blockbuster, Netflix or Red BOX more than likely it is copy protected and that's why it won't copy.It was a bad copy, I tried other avi files and it worked.
