I have updated everything that I can think of. I have downloaded WMP 10. I am trying to watch a video off of the internet and I can hear the sound but cannot see the video. Please help, don't KNOW what to do!!!! :-?More info needed. A LOT more, including what happened prior to this?. See below.
Ok I have Windows XP. I am not very computer literate so I don't know how much help I can give you. It says that I have Service Pack 1 but I went in an downloaded a bunch of updates. I am trying to play a NEW video off of fox16.com and when I open it it plays the sound but cuts up the video or does not play it at all.You need to install service pack 2. That is the minimum required for XP support from Microsoft currently. Why didn't you install that already, he wondered quizically? What virus and spyware protection? Has it ALWAYS been this way? If not, what has changed? Etc.?When I did all of the updates it said that I was installing service pack 2. I have Norton AntiVirus protection. Here's the deal. I haven't had this computer hooked up to the internet very long. I have a friend who is a cop and I wanted to watch a video that he was in. I couldn't watch it until I downloaded WMP 10. I GOT on my computer, did the windows updates and downloaded WMP 10. I still cannot watch the video and when I try to open a URL in the actual media player it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." What can I do to fix it?Please help!!!Follow the advice already given and we'll proceed...How can I tell if Service Pack 2 has been installed with my updates?Open Explorer clik on help and open about...The version is : 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.050301-1526 with a cipher strength 128 bit. Now what do I do? Thanks!!!Can anyone help???!!!!

This was exactly 15 minutes after your last post. Have some patience. This is a forum, not a chat room.
Download and install some proper CODECS. (Now that we have that part of the actual error message.)
Go to this link (Choose not to install the Chines language pack and it will proceed):
http://www.theorica.net/download.htm
Choose: The Codecs 5.0 - 9x/ME/2000/XP (English) which is near the bottom of the page Click on the downloaded file to install and then try again
