Solve : XP not recognizing SATA drive?

Answer»

I have a new HP Pavilion. It came with a home version of Windows Vista. I need to have XP on it to run the software I need on this system. When I tried to reformat the drive that came with the unit I got a blue screen that said the drive was bad and I could not go any further, but I could go back to the hard drive and it acted normally (still having Vista installed) I thought maybe HP protected the hard drive somehow so I bought a new drive and disconnected the old drive and installed the new drive. With my Windows disc in I still get the same message. I did some research and FOUND that XP would probably not recognize a SATA drive so I would have to hit F6 during the install and install a SATA driver for the motherboard, but I have not been able to FIND a SATA driver download. Anybody have any ideas? Would it be possible for me to do a duel BOOT, maybe?
Gie us some details on the computer please. Either the MAKE and model of the motherboard or at least the computer's model number. The SATA drivers for that machine should be on the driver CD that shipped with the machine...alternatively you could check the HDD manuf. site.
Did the new drive come with a CD or floppy ? ?
If so there they are.
