Solution :Conditions for rusting of iron :
(i) The PRESENCE of WATER and oxygen is ESSENTIAL for the rusting of iron.
(ii) Impurities in the iron, the presence of water vapour, acids, salts and carbon dioxide hastens rusting.
(iii) Pure iron does not dust in dry and `CO_(2)` free AIR. It also does not rust in pure water, free from dissolved salts.
