The sum of two rational numbers is \(-2.\) if If one the numbers is \(\frac{-14}{5},\) find the other.

Answer»

Sum of two rational numbers = -2

One number = \(\frac{-14}{5}\)

Let the other rational number = x

Now,

\(\frac{-14}{5}+ \) x = \(-2\)

\(\Rightarrow\) x = \(-2-\frac{-14}{5}\)

\(\Rightarrow\) x \(=\frac{-10-(-14)}{5}\)

\(\Rightarrow\) x \(=\frac{-10+14}{5}\)

\(\Rightarrow\) x \(=\frac{4}{5}\)

Therefore, the other rational number is \(\frac{4}{5}\)
