Three different elctrolytic cells A, B and C are connectedin separate circuits .Electrolytic cell A contains sodium chloride solution. When the circuit is complete . A bulb in the circuit glows brightly .electrolytic cell B contains acetic acid solution and in this casethe bulbin the circuit glows dimly . The elctrolytic cell C contains sugar solution and the bulb does not glow . Give a reasonfor each of these observations .

Answer»

Solution :(i) NaClis a STRONG electrolyte and is completely isonied in solution .THUS the number of ions is large .
` Na Cl(AQ) to Na^(+) +Cl^(-)(aq)`
(ii) Acetic ACID being weak electrolyte is PARTIALLY ionised .Thus the number of ions is small .
(iii) Sugar is nonelectrolyte ,and it does not produce ions .
