Two wires X and Y are of equal length and have equal resistances. If the resistivity of X is more than that of Y which wire is thicker and why ? For the electric circuit given below calculate : (i) Current in each resistor (ii) Total current drawn from the battery and (iii) Equivalent resistance of circuit

Answer»

Solution :V= IR wire A is thicker
(i) for `30 Omega I = (6)/(30)= (1)/(5) ` AMPERE or 0.2 Afor `10 OMEGA1 = (6)/(10) = 0.6 ` Ampere
for `5 Omega I = (6)/(5) = 1.2 ` Ampere
(ii) `(1)/(R) = (1)/(30) +(1)/(10)+(1)/(5) =(1)/(3) implies R = 3 Omega`
`V= IR implies I =(V)/(R) = (6)/(3) = 2 ` Ampere
(III) Equivalent Resistance = `3 Omega`
