1.

Under what soil condition do you think a farmer would treat the soil of his field with quick lime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) or chalk ? (calcium carbonate) ?

Answer»

Solution :Most of the PLANTS grow best when the pH of the SOIL is close to 7. If the soil is too acidic or too basic , the plants grow BADLY or do not grow at all . As QUICK lime , slaked lime or chalk are all alkaline substances, these would be added to the soil by the farmer when soil is highly acidic .
