What are hydrocarbon compounds ? Explain its classification.

Answer»

Solution :COMPOUNDS which consist of only two ELEMENTS of carbon and hydrogen are called hydrocarbon compounds.
The classification of hydrocarbon compounds are as follows:

Alkanes : Hydrocarbon compounds in which only single bond exist between carbon-carbon ATOMS are known as alkanes. For example, butane, pentane, HEXANE, etc.
Alkenes : Hydrocarbon compounds which contain one or more carbon-carbon double BONDS between two carbon atoms are known as alkenes. For example, butene, pentene, hexene, etc.
Alkynes : Hydrocarbon compounds which contain one or more carbon-carbon triple bonds between two carbon atoms are known as alkynes. For example, butyne, pentyne, hexyne, etc.
