What is alluvial soil? |
| Answer» Alluvial soil is one of the most widespread form of soil found in India. It is mainly deposited in the northern parts of the country and is deposited by three important Himalayan rivers namely Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra. It is also found in the coastal areas of the country and also in the deltaic regions of the South. It consist of sand, silt and clay and is generally fertile in nature and loamy in texture. In the upper reaches of the river valley, soil is coarse grained (BHANGAR) whereas it is the most fertile just near to the river (KHADAR). | |
