Rowlatt Act was passed hurriedly in the Imperial Legislative Council despite the united oppostition of the Indian members.It gave the government the enormous power to repress political activities and allowed the detention of political prisoners without trial for two years.This took place in the year 1919.In opposition to this several rallies and strikes took place around the country.
Rowlatt Act is passed by the Imperial Legislative Council, the legislature of British India and passed in february 1919. This act allowed certain political cases to be tried without juries and permitted internment of suspects without trial. Rowlatt Act 1919 authorised the Government: To arrest and imprison any person without trial in a court of law.
