What is short-circuiting of an electric circuit ? An electric motor of 1.5 kW power rating is operated in a domestic electric circuit of current rating 5A. What would happen when it is switched ON ? Give reason for your answer. |

Answer» Solution :Situation when live wire and NEUTRAL wire come into direct contact, CURRENT in the circuit ABRUPTLY increases. P = 1.5 `xx `1000 W = 1500 w p = VI or I= `(p)/(v) = (1500 W)/(220 V) = 6.8` Electric current required (6.8 A) is more than the current rating of the circuit, i.e., 5A. Hence the fuse will melt and the electric MOTOR will stop working. |
