Answer» Started on the pattern of “Chipko Movement” this movement was started in Karnataka to save trees. Appiko means ‘to hug’. On 8 September, 1983, 160 men, women and children hugged the trees (to save them) in Salkani forest in Sirsi and forced the woodcutters to leave.
