Britain remove the existing Khalifa and appointed the new Khalifa in his place. it caused the widespread anger among the Muslim all around the world. in India also Muslims started protesting against the British forming khalifat committee under the leadership of Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali .Gandhiji saw this as a golden opportunity to bring all Muslim under the unified umbrella of struggle against British .Gandhiji convinced all Congress leader to support Khalifat moment in support of Swaraj.
