Why are metals malleable and ductile? |
| Answer» Solution :When a large amount of shearing FORCE is APPLIED to a metal, the metal kernels of one layer slide over the other. After getting displaced, the metal kernels again get stabilised there due to the uniform distribution of free electrons THROUGHOUT the metal. Hence metals can be permanently deformed with-out breaking and EXHIBIT malleability and ductility. | |
