Gandhiji started the non-cooperation movement of 1921 due to the following reasons: (a) Britishers introduced the repressive rowlatt act in 1919. This act authorised the Britishers to arrest any Indian without a warrant which was severely critised by the Indians.(b) Jallianwala Bagh massacre was one of the painful incidents that made Indians revolt against the Britishers.( c) Gandhiji wanted to support the khilafat movement through this movement to achieve hindu - muslim unity.
