Why did the rich peasant communities join the civil disobedience movement |
| Answer» \tRich peasant communities –like Patidars of Gujarat and the Jatts of Uttar Pradesh- were active in the movement.\tBeing producers of cash crops, they were very hard hit by the trade depression and falling prices.\xa0For them the fight for swaraj was a struggle against high revenues.\xa0\tAs their cash income disappeared, they found it impossible to pay the government’s revenue demand. And the refusal of the government to reduce the revenue demand led to widespread resentment.\tDue to this reason rich peasants become enthusiastic supporters of the civil Disobedience Movement. | |
