Over a period of time, the phenomenon took an extreme form with the concepts of untouchability setting in.Though in the twentieth century, several great thinkers debunked the theory and in present day urban India, caste may not play a very important role when choosing neighbors or workforce but it is still an important factor in marriages. Despite measures, untouchability has not completely vanished.
