Why the production of pulses lagging behind in india???? |
| Answer» Some of the reasons for this are:1. There is a rise in demand for the pulses owing to the increase in purchasing power of the households, but at the same time there is lower increase in production of pulses compared to the demand.2. Inspite of increase in the MSP of pulses, there is lack of interest from farming community to produce them as there are no proper infrastructural facilities made available by the government for their procurement at MSP.3. Cereals like paddy, wheat are favored by the farmers because for the same reason higher returns because of the procurement at MSP by the government and designated agencies.4. Another major issue being the productivity, the productivity of pulses is very low because of the farming practices. Fluctuation in the yields of pulses is also high and are easily susceptible to pests and diseases.5. Pulses are majorly grown in rainfed areas, wherever there is proper irrigation facility farmers opt for cultivation of wheat and paddy.6. Government hasn\'t laid much stress on the research and technological interventions in pulses as in the case of cash crops. | |
