Solution :The physical properties of ethanoic acid (acetic acid) are as follows:
(1) Ethanoic acid is a colourless LIQUID having vinegar like odour.
(2) The boiling point of pure ethanoic acid is 391 K.
(3) The melting point of pure ethanoic acid is 290 K and hence it often FREEZES during winter in cold climates. Therefore, it is also known as glacial acetic acid.
(4) 5 - 8 % solution of ethanoic acid in WATER (aqueous solution) is CALLED vinegar.
(5) Ethanoic acid is a weak acid, but hydrochloric acid is a strong acid as it ionises completely.
