Solve : [iTouch]Youtube fail while on dock[iTouch]?

Answer»

My dock (my only viable source of charging my iPod) causes some weird glitches with YOUTUBE. When the dock is not turned on (but PLUGGED it) the iPod still goes to dock-mode and will not play out of the internal speakers. If it is turned on, the power light will flash for 5-10 seconds and if a YouTube video is open, it will CLOSE, if not, it will open the first song in my now playing list (a very unwanted result). After the video automatically closes, if I try to re-open it, the video will be in portrait-mode (as opposed to landscape) and will not actually show the video, only the audio plays.

Every once and a while, I will be able to trick my iPod into thinking it is unplugged by turning on the dock and unplugging it and repeating a few times and that allows it to play internally and in landscape-mode.

Is there anything I can do to fix this/these problem(s)? Bump? Anybody?Recycle this PROCESS again hopefully you will get satisfactory result.

Im a PC users but i want to buy a Mac and i know nothing about Mac, could u give me some information about Mac OS that difer from the other Operating System what exactly do you want to know?

I'd love to help and answer your questions, but like bc programmer, I have nothing to go off of. What exactly are you looking to find out about apple? ALSO, how familiar are you with other OS's (Windows, Linux (if so, what distro)), etc?Quote from: junkies on July 28, 2009, 09:57:05 AM

All we can tell you is what we know, most of us don't use Mac. You could probably get good info from a Mac salesman though.

What do you intend to do with the computer?
What do you have to spend?
Why are you CONSIDERING a Mac?Quote from: Quantos on July 28, 2009, 08:56:47 PM

Well right now im using Toshiba with windows XP as an Operating system, it an old one it only contain 1.86GHz processors and 504 MB of RAM and 55 GB of Hard Disk.

Im intend to use it for work in Graphics designing
Im currently stay in Thailand so i have only 50,000 B in $ 1470
i dont know but i heard Mac is better than PC for some reason, so that why im asking you guys what are the advantages of choosing Mac over PC?

and another thing, from what i heard is Mac are very hard to use, is it true? Quote from: junkies on July 29, 2009, 07:48:16 AM

This, I can say with a good amount of certainty, is untrue. In fact, many things of a mac are easier then windows. Since Apple "hand selects" much if it's hardware, oftentimes their machines crash less often then a cobbled together windows machine; that's not to say they are immune to crashes, of course. Although, this does raise the price of their machines.

The only real disadvantage I can think of, Is cost; Mac/Apple machines are often more expensive then an equivalent PC.Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 29, 2009, 09:18:52 AM

This is a very good response. Macs typically cost more but you also get hand picked hardware and software written to be well integrated with it.Quote from: junkies on July 29, 2009, 07:48:16 AM

If you're planning on using your computer for graphic desigining, a mac is a great choice.

Considering your current situation, here's what I would say the benefits of the mac are:
1- iLife suite included with every mac (iMovie, GarageBand, iTunes, iWeb, iCal)
2- Great, great apps for graphic designers on a mac (note, though, that you can still buy adobe's suites on a pc)
3- Virtually no virus issues. There are many reasons for this, but without getting into a big discussion, you pretty much don't have to worry about viruses/spyware/adware/malware on macs (at the current time).
4- Macs are INCREDIBLY easy to use. Because apple controls the software and hardware that goes into a mac, they try to make everything work together intuitively. I switched from a Windows machine a few years ago and found it incredibly easy to use.

For the money that you've got, you could go with a highend macbook or a refurbished macbook pro. Depending on how much graphic design/video editing/gaming you plan on doing, it could go either way.

Honestly though, if you can handle having a desktop instead of a laptop, I'd go with a nice iMac. They are a lot cheaper and pack a BIGGER punch in terms of processing power.Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 29, 2009, 09:18:52 AM

The software can still be quite a bit more expensive too.Quote from: Quantos on July 30, 2009, 11:46:39 PM
The software can still be quite a bit more expensive too.

I'm curious as to what software you're referring to. For starters, a mac comes with a much better software package than a windows machine out of the box. You get iLife which has iMovie and Garageband, two apps that would cost you at least $100 to purchase for a windows machine (windows movie maker does not count as an equivalent).

Furthermore, microsoft office is the same price on both windows and mac. Same with Adobe's Creative Suite (and any parts of it).

Really the only thing I can think of that costs more is occasionally games. The part that sucks about big name games on the mac is that they usually come out much later than on PC and often cost an extra $10 to help pay for the porting costs.Quote from: socrates on July 31, 2009, 07:25:49 AM

That's more or less what I had in mind. There was a time when all the software was more expensive. Primarily I am referring to just games though.Quote from: Quantos on July 31, 2009, 12:13:35 PM

I kind of figured that's what you meant with that, and you're right... most software did used to be more expensive on macs. As macs have gained popularity there are more and more developers, and talent is cheaper. This has helped to drive down software costs so really it's hard to find a DIFFERENCE in price between the same title on windows or mac.if you were to buy all of the software that comes PRE-LOADED on the mac for the pc...you would be spending ALOT more money for it thenyou would if you were to just buck up and buy a mac...YES infact macs are alot better with graphic design and other design applicable software. especially with the finger gesture feature on the laptops. Some windows computers support finger gestures....

Solve : html movie code needed for Mac user?

To test the web site, I have been viewing the pages through Dreamweaver software. The quicktime movie shows on the home page when testviewed through Safari or Foxfire, but not in IE for Mac (v. 7). I am currently using mp4 or mov files, but I also USED a program called iSkysoft video converter and tried to convert the quicktime movie to a different format, but I can't seem to find a format that will allow the movie to view in both IE and Safari/Foxfire. When viewed in IE, there is a blank SPACE where the movie should be. I can view the HTML code in Dreamweaver (I have a limited knowledge of web design and HTML), so I can change the code by hand in Dreamweaver. The iWeb code for viewing a movie looks like this:

I have played with the and codes, but I can't seem to find the right HTML codes that will allow the movie to view in IE. Please help!

Thank you.

what do you mean "ie for mac (v7)?"

There is no version 7 of IE for mac. Will iWeb work for mac OS X as well?

http://www.smallboxweb.comThe last version of Internet Explorer for Mac was 5.2.3, and was released in June 2003. It's so old that the Quicktime embed probably doesn't work in that browser. ANY browser from 2003 probably won't support today's plug-ins (Flash, Quicktime, Silverlight).

Don't worry about it. If it works in the other browsers, you should be FINE. If you want, you can check that the most recent version of IE8 on Windows works. But you don't need to try to support IE5. Quote from: Griff on March 30, 2010, 05:16:36 PM

Flash and Quicktime are apparently a lot older then you realize. I have no idea about silverlight but seriously who uses that outside MS.

But you don't need to try to support IE5.
Agreed. If somebody is going to go to the trouble of supporting IE5 they may as well support netscape 4 and all sorts of other ancient browsers.I kinda meant TODAYS versions of flash and Quicktime. I doubt you could get Flash 10 to run in IE5...

A columnist I like, Charlie Brooker, says "you can safely wait until it's lighter and cheaper". Personally I'd rather blind myself with needles than BUY or use any Apple computer*, but that's just me.

*I guess this is hardly the right place to state this

Just heard a news item on this very subject this morning. The consensus seems to be developing that it really does NOT meet the primary objectives of most users. Size is a problem. External hardware options not available (no ports). There seems to be a strong sense developing that there are better devices about to become available to compete with it. So i would suggest unless it is imperative that you own the latest techno gadjet--wait a while.truenorthIt is not WORTH it right now. I would believe all the hype. However it does seem to be a GOOD product I just recommend wait till the product develops a bit.Ok, buying an ipad is not for everyone...because of the money and for what it is used for...if you just WANT a mac then buy a macbook or something...if you want something like the iPad, just remember it is only 16-64 gigs of space which is not even the size of a netbook hdd...however it is AMAZING for internet browsing and for watching youtube videosAlso netflix watch instantly, and games!

Solve : Setting up Macintosh Time Machine?

Answer»

Being a newbie to Mac, and trying to set up Time Machine to back up files, etc, I am floundering. When I click on the time machine icon, I get a window that says "a STORAGE location for Time Machine backups isn't set up. So I click on the option to choose a storage location. Then I get a window that SHOWS an "off/on" switch and "choose backup DISK." The switch is in the off position. There are 2 choices, switch it to the "on" position or click on "choose backup disk." With both selections I am taken to ANOTHER window that is blank except for a section to click on at the bottom that says "set up time capsule." When I click on that another window pops up that says "searching for airport wireless devices." Then it is unable to find wireless devices because I have none. A vicious circle. Solve : Can't put files on my MacBook into an external hard drive?

Answer»

I have a OneTouch4 Mini hard drive that I use to store my music files. I want to put a music folder into that hard drive from my MacBook, but it won't let me, as it says that "OneTouch4 Mini can't be modified".

Any help would be appreciated. Is this a brand new hard drive? My guess is that it's FORMATTED as NTFS (a windows-only partition FORMAT that mac can't write to).

If you don't have ANYTHING in the hard drive, open up disk utility (Macintosh HD --> Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility) and then ERASE the hard drive and format as one of the two options:

If you plan on using on windows and mac, format as MS-DOS (FAT).
If you plan on using on mac only, format as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)confirming previouse post...do those steps and you should be up n running in no time

If your objective as stated is to only learn your way AROUND the Apple O/S then i don't see why you need to go where the big bucks will be necessary. There are many Apple desktop models that can be purchased very inexpensively. I have 4 in the house all with OSX (leopard) and i did not pay more than $100.00 for any of them--in fact one was a G4 at $2.00.truenorth
You now have me very interested. Where did you GET these, ebay? One was from a Compusa STORE in Atlanta (it was their training tool for store staff) and they closed that store. That was the one that was $100.00. All others came from garage SALES or church sales. All work. truenorthOk, if your looking to get mac os, ONLY...then you can use a program called virtualbox...if your looking into buying mac..i wouldnt go with a pc with just the OS on it...i would deffinatly recomend a macbook...if you prefer it new then yes you will be looking at 1000+ however look on ebay or your local craigslist.
