Solve : Running a website, downloading templates, slapping my Mac and that did not help.?

Answer»

I have never written in a forum because I really don't like to broadcast anything. I know that all of you are far more advanced than I. I saw "SQL" and I'm clueless but I can Google that.

I am on an eMac OS X.

I need help. I have Earthlink as my internet provider and I used their Trellix system to start a little website two years ago.

Today it is 184 pages and I have four blogs in addition.

I am "hosted" by Hostway but I can't use their templates, something goes wrong. So I had a friend "point" Hostway to Earthlink. Now Earthlink is giving me grief because of my sizable site. Traffic to my site has CRASHED it several times.

I have tried everything and yes I checked the PREVIOUSLY asked stuff; my MAIN concern at this time is how to work Stuffit because I need to. I download a template and I get a file and I can't do anything with it. It's a FILE. I unload it and put it somewhere and it's nothing. Just blank.

I need to figure out how to give my subdomains space with me. I am ChewMouse. My subdomains are Palace Puppy, Alley Cat, Prairie Penguin and Desert Wolf.

I need to understand FTP and I just can't. I've read everything, I've bought books.

My Computer Consultant left town for college. This is the kid that CONVINCED us to get a Mac in 2004 and then went and built two PCs in his freaking bedroom. Then he bought a laptop. And I sit here with the Mac.

I would seek help via email. However, for anyone's privacy, I could POST IT ON DEAR EARTHLINK'S SPACE and you could just go there.

I do not want to burden anyone or write long posts. I just want the most bonafide genius on this site who works on a Mac and has a website and will help me for free to get in touch. If it does not work, that's okay. I am so frustrated right now that I really do not care. This is my last attempt at getting help. After this, should it not work, I'm going to blast this machine with my Computer Consultant's BB gun.

Again: I will continue to check through these forums but I do not find: how to work Stuffit, How To Make Your Web Host Play Fair, What To Do If Your Site Crashes And Your Internet Provider Gets All Snotty About It and How To Get Your Domain Where YOU Want It.

Before you write me off as a dumb blonde, I have an MA in English lit and I'm a nurse. (I often do Shakespearian therapy.) (That was a joke.) I am a writer and have published over three hundred articles in women's magazines. I have edited two books. I teach nursing at the college level.

And I can't do the Mac on advanced functions. I never expected my website to become what it is.

Thank you for saying you won't help with homework and so on; I have had students cut and paste from cheat sites. You all seem professional and so am I if you need nursing. Or if you are illiterate, that type of thing, you know, the English degree.

While I cannot pay you, if you can help me I'll feature you on my site, I'll write something you need done so long as it is not an assignment, etc., or I will help you in some other way.

Folks, I'm at my wit's end. I have a site that could be very IMPORTANT and I want to do others. But I need a mentor or something.

I am not intrusive except for this long post. I would be glad to ask a question and await your response. I know you are busy. We can work via a private blog or via email. If you live in Topeka you better get over here right now.

I so hate to ask for help. I taught myself HTML and CSS and some Java, but I'm stuck.

Think about it, please let me know if you are willing to help me.

Even if not, thank you for reading this.

I am ChewMouse.
The truest way to see my site:  http://home.earthlink.net/~chewmouse/

The Way I Prefer To Avoid That Pointing Stuff From Hostway:
http://www.chewmouse.comGood afternoon

From what I understand, you have downloaded your home directory of your website, which, incidentally (well, then again, its not much of a surprise, since its a Mac), happened to be in a format that your Mac is having difficulties reading?

Or is it just that you are having problems figuring out how to use StuffitExpander? (Which, admittedly, is a horrible program when it comes to ease of use)

When you start StuffitExpander, press the HELP button on your computer, this should bring up the basics of how to use it.

Solve : Apple OS on Windows Computer??

Answer»

Just a quick question:

My friend has told me it is possible to install and run the latest Apple OSX on a Windows computer.

He claims to be downloading it RIGHT now (or well, a few days ago) and that it was around 4.7GB when torrenting.

Is this possible to do? If so, which is well, better? (XP Home Edition or Apple)Well, you can download Linux via torrents and burn the .ISO onto a CD and boot with the CD to install Linux. I'm not sure about MAC though...
Ask your friend what type of file he's downloading. If it's an .ISO file then it's possible he downloading it illegally

That's a PRETTY cool program. I installed it yesterday. It took a while to install though. And all those files it modified scares me!
I'm afraid to think what WOULD happen to the system if I tried to uninstall.....It said on the site that you can system restore to uninstall。 Ya, I noticed that. But what if you install other programs afterward?
How far back will system restore remember anyhow?Lol, no idea. I'm not a fan of mac so i'm not planning on installing that.  I just like the tool bar that zooms in on the icons when you mouseover. I also like getting away from the bubbly look of xp.Hmmmm...guess I might try it sometime..... Basically Windows with a MAC skin...... Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on June 07, 2007, 07:44:43 AM
Hmmmm...guess I might try it sometime..... Basically Windows with a MAC skin......
This whole thing is very VERY wrong

If you have problems with Windows wearing Macs cloths, and you uninstall it, and problems still remain, click Start>Run
and in the Run dialog box, type
sfc /scannow
Have your Windows XP CD ready, you will be prompted for it.

the thing is that if you want to try mac  having also a windows on it why not?! Or what we say dual boot or in mac it is called boot camp, why not! it is very possible.

and on the other hand, mac os is fun if you want to try it.. There is one thing you could try visit the following site and read up on it:

I could only get OS7 to work on it, maybe with more effort, you can get up to OS9 on it. OSX probably would not handle very well

Solve : iPod Shuffle question/problem?

Answer»

I know nothing about iPods or iTunes but someone just gave my wife an iPod Shuffle, so I'm trying to set it up for her to use.  I've had mp3 players in the past that were very simple to use, I just connected them by USB and then opened them as an external drive and dragged the songs I wanted into them.  However, when I try to do that with the iPod, it appears to work fine until I try to play the songs, at which point I get the green and orange FLASHING light for 2 seconds, which according to the instruction pamphlet (I hesitate to call it a manual because it barely tells you how to use the iPod, let alone trouble shoot) is an error meaning no songs are on it.  Do you absolutely HAVE to use iTunes in order to transfer mp3 files to an iPod?

Also, does using iTunes have any effect on mp3s I already have on my hard drive?  I have a very vague memory (which may be incorrect) of my brother once telling me that connecting an iPod full of songs to your computer would wipe out and override song files already present on your hard drive.  That sounds crazy to me, but still, is that a concern?  BTW, I'm running an ATHLON 4600 with WINDOWS XP SP2.    Quote

Nonsense.

As for your other question, iPod Shuffle works in different way, then other iPods. You may need one of tools listed here:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=464522I got it straightened out.  I ended up downloading iTunes after all, reset the iPod, and then everything worked fine.  Thank you for posting back

Some of my cd COVERS are not showing on my ipod even though they are on my pc?
Some of my track listings are listed on my pc but on my ipod they are showing as track 1, 2 etc

can anyone help?

Thanks

Mark
What operating system are you using? (eg: Macintosh, Windows, Linux)
What media player program are you using? (eg: iTunes, Windows Media Player, Quicktime) Did you sync your IPod?i am using windows Xp and i have sync'd my ipod...Two other options:
1. While computer on, DISCONNECT IPod. RECONNECT. It should give some message like:
"IPod was not disconnected in proper way. Do you want to scan it for errors?". Say Yes.
If that doesn't help, and you have EVERYTHING backed up on your computer...
2. Open ITunes, click on your IPod, and in right pane, you'll have "Restore" button, which UPON clicking will restore IPod to the original state.

Solve : Imac and MacPro?

Answer»

I am not real familiar with the Mac lines of computers; but I have a friend who is in the business of videos and commercials, and does pretty good work.  He has been told that he NEEDS to throw away the Windows PC and go to a MAC.  The system he is using now is a Sony, about 3 or 4 years old....250GB...not a world beater, but my opinion is that he stick with Windows and go to a quad system, after all he has all of the adobe programs, vegaspro8, etc.

Opinions please, are very welcome, before he shells out 4-5 grand for a new system. Any software available on the Mac is available on the PC, and, you will find, there is more software for the PC than the Mac.

Does a Mac run faster?
No, Macs have limited compatibility, thus, preventing a wider range of software and hardware from being available. Due to this lack of compatibility, you cant load as much "stuff" on it.

Do Macs have better hardware?
No, you can build a PC with the exact same hardware (except the motherboard), and it will be greatly cheaper.

Is a Mac more secure?
No, Macs have a very small market share, therefor, they are less targeted for hacking and virus creation. A PC is more targeted for hacking and viruses, but, protection is easy to find (Avast Antivirus, and built in Firewall, both free), and that issue is QUICKLY resolved.

Why does it seem like PC's are slower?
A lot of people put junk on their PC, as in, they go online, and start uncontrollably installing stuff. (Macs lack free software, so you dont see this as often, but that does not make it a good thing).
Also, since support for older PC operating systems last longer, you will find that there are more people still using older computers, simply since they keep working. (Older Mac systems will quickly become completely incompatible with newer software)

The Mac vs. PC argument will exist until Apple goes out of business, or until we all go over to Linux.

PC's have a wider avaliability of hardware components. Macs are limited to a few selections.

PC's:
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=10&name=Desktop-PCs

If you want a project, you can build your own PC, and get it for even cheaper than buying it from a company like Dell, Compaq, or Acer. I agree; I am in the computer business (builder-reseller), but have never offered apple a second glance.  It is just that my friend "was told" they were the way to go.  In fact my friend was surprised when I told him that my old presario could run VegasPro 8.................again you are right about 99.9% of PC users "junk'em" up and then wonder why they slow down or become outdated.  My personal system is 5 years old and normal response on it is 8ms.  I keep my usage ratio at about 5 to 1; using only about 20% of capacity, for an older system, it flies.

Thanks for the input; IMHO owning a mac is like a Yugo; it's in the market, but has no real market share to justify the larger CASH outlay For professional video broadcasting and editing, the INDUSTRY standard isn't Final Cut Pro, or anything Mac specific, which Mac fans love to boast. It's actually Avid. It runs on Mac and Windows. They used Avid to create "I Am Legend" and "Bourne Ultimatum" and many others.
There are even a few movies that have been made with Cinelerra, which is a linux video editor.

To get a powerful Mac system for video editing, you'll spend close to $10k because of the extra software and xeon processors and pretty case and monitors (A friend of mine did it a few years BACK)..... or you can build your own system for half the price.

You can buy a mac with
Quote

Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 8GB RAM, Mac Pro RAID Card, 4x 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s, 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB, 2x Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel), Two 16x SuperDrives, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and AirPort Extreme, Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple wireless Mighty Mouse, Mac OS X, iWork '08 preinstalled, Final Cut Express preinstalled, Aperture 1.5 preinstalled, Logic Express preinstalled
All for $9,273.00

or build your own pc with
Quote
Intel D975XBX2KR motherboard,  Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz,  8GB RAM, built-in RAID, 4x 500GB SATA 3.0 HDD, 2x 256MB Video Cards, 4x 24" Widescreen LCD Monitors, Blu-ray DVD Burner, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium, Office 2007 Pro, Vista Ultimate, Logitech surround sound speakers
All for $6,057.78

So really, you can get a much better system by buying a PC instead of a Mac. Take two of the 4 monitors out, and it's even closer to half the price.

I dont think the world is ready for Linux, it still has a great deal of issues that need to be fixed first. Specifically in the world of compatibility. They need to start making generic drivers that work.. not ones that cause my WiFi card to overheat after 10 minutes of lite use, and crash for 30 minutes. (I have had a lot of luck with Linux, as you can tell... but my website server runs it fine as long as you dont try and add/change/remove any applications. Even then, the package manager usually does everything for you)

Just go buy a new hard drive and trash the other 2 or sell it
...

Lack of creativity, buying a new hard drive is not a very practical solution.

Maksim, due to lack of people participating in the small Apple area of our forum, you might try the IRC chat:
Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #apple
Channel: #mac
Channel: #macintosh

You may loose the data on one partition, SINCE one will have to be deleted. Back it up before deleting the extra, and merging the non-allocated space into the main partition

Solve : Apples' products vs Microsoft's products?

Answer»

Anyone here can give me some comparison of Apples' products and Microsoft's products?i've never used any of Apple. As in what? Their operating system, or OFFICE software?

Apple computers are not as capable of running different types of APPLICATIONS, since they are harder to program for. There is more freeware software for Windows then there is for the Mac system. Windows has more hardware support, while Apple relies on its lack of hardware support for "stability".

Both of them are great, but Microsoft is better. Also the Iphone is nice too.
can't compare them Most of the software you can find for MAC, you can find the exact same thing for windows. And the stories that MAC users spread to say that MACs have better sound and video editing software is just propaganda.

For example MAC users say that Final Cut Pro is the best video editing software... not exactly true. Most of them haven't heard of Avid, which is the industry standard for video software. (editing, streaming, broadcasting, ETC.)
Another example is the Pro Tools audio editing software. It is arguably the best audio editing and mastering software out there and MAC users will say that it is only available for the MAC. That's a lie too. You can GET the exact same version for Windows.
Next in LINE is Office suites. Microsoft Office is, in my opinion, the best office software. Apple doesn't have anything that remotely compares.
Games? Does MAC have games? Yes, they do. But to play any of them with the same performance of a PC, you would have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars more.

MAC does have some cool screen savers, though. And the program dock is really neat.

Solve : itunes transfer?

Answer»

hey what do i do when i get a new computer and want to transfer all the music from my i tunes to the new computer cause some of the cd's i don't have anymore and when i plug the ipod it only gives me the option to sync and eraseiTunes itself doesn't store any music. It stores only list(s)/library of your music files, which are stored somewhere on your computer.
Unless you changed the default LOCATION, you'll FIND them in My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
just copy them to CD/DVD, and transfer them to your new computer.so i would have to copy every cd thats on my ipod then put it in my new computer? thats will take some time lolIf you have all of your music on your iPod (how big is it?), you can simply hook it up to your new computer, and move all music from iPod to new computer.it's like a 20 gig ipod ,ok im gonna go try that nowYeah, you can use those as just any other regular external drives.ok i put i tunes on my new computer but i don't see the option of putting my music a from the ipod onto the new computer it only SAYS erase and syncNo, no...Open Windows Explorer, iPod will be visible as separate drive. Copy all music files from your iPod to any folder of your choice on your new computer.
THEN, you open ITunes, and import all those songs to iTunes library.ok im running xp and i went into my computer and  found the device but there's only like notes and STUFF no option for music ,and i don't see windows exploer in the start menuStart>Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer
If you have similar iPod, as I do, in iPod directory go iPod Control folder>Musicok i can see the ipod as a seperate device but it is not GIVING me any option to copy all the music Can you see music files?no, but i know there is music on thereWhat folders do you have there? List them.

Solve : iPod! Lets do some research!?

Answer»

Hmm...
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore
Cheapest thing: $79 1GB, no screen, nothing special

iPod Nano: $149, 4GB

iPod Classic: $249 80GB

First hand notice on the Apple products:
All say something about design... design design design.
They seem to be more pretty than they are useful.

SECOND fact:
Most users dont EVEN have 80GB of Music, and when they do, they brag about it, but dont listen to half of it. Heck, I bet they use the SKIP button more than anything else.

Microsoft:
Zune: 80GB $233. Has a bigger screen than the iPod classic, great for those users who dont even listen to half of their songs

$189 30GB Zune Still a bigger screen than the iPod classic, perfect storage capacity

$194 8GB Zune (the mini-fied version!)

$140 4GB Zune (still mini)

Now, what to notice about both:
They both have cool looks... right then. Fine, Fashion Statement, but, you can still call a Zune an iPod and get away with it. Besides, Zune is cooler than that Apple the suckup brings for the teacher every week, right?
Yes, buy an iFruit...

But, better yet, lets step outside the realm of Apple and Microsoft:

 $91.99, Creative ZEN V Plus 1.5" Black & Blue 4GB MP3 Player

 $94 MEElectronics RockMee 2.4" 4GB MP4 Player

>>>> Mind you, there were a ton of MP3/MP4 players on Newegg, but, I'm not going to bother posting them

$119 Creative ZEN 2.5" Black 4GB MP4 Player  ... sleek design for this one, thus why I pulled it and put it on this post

 $154 Creative Labs Creative ZEN V Plus 1.5" Black/Red 8GB MP3 Player

 $174  SMARTDISK 3.6" Silver 40GB MP4 Player FTXXT40  (admittedly, its a bit funky looking)

Dozens more:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&SubCategory=23&N=2100080023

Now what?

If you're interested in something that sounds good go Creative ZEN. With a good pair of headphones these will blow iHype out of the WATER. Quote from: Deerpark on January 05, 2008, 07:01:53 AM

If you're interested in something that sounds good go Creative ZEN. With a good pair of headphones these will blow iHype out of the water.
Has good sound quality, eh? Ill have to keep that in mind, I go to a school were there are very little people who are into technology, we have a lot of iPods though... and someone I know has a PSP that he uses for music... but, for the most part, it never leaves the Apple cooperation. Some of these people spent their entire paychecks on a iPod...

I asked why, and I heard no valid reasons. SINCE I am at the top of the technology knowledge, I cant explain why you shouldn't get an iPod and expect people to understand. (You have to realize, last year when we had a tech teacher, I literally knew more than she did about computers.)

Sound quality is something you should look for in a device, and never use the headphones that come with it, unless its a Niki Phillips MP3 player... otherwise, expect some quality loss.

My little 512MB MP3 player (Coby, of all companies that I dont like) has DESCENT sound quality, but, does have some (not much) quality loss.

Solve : Itunes Store Problem?

Answer»

I have a year 2003 IMac running 10.2.8 and iTunes 3.0.1. I've lost the ability to go to the iTunes STORE and search for, or purchase songs. When I go to the iTunes store and click on "Buy Music Now" a window pops up STATING "Alert: Fire Fox Doesn't Know How To Open This Address, Because The protocol (ITMS) Isn't Associated With Any Program." When I am in the Safari Browser and then go to the iTunes store and click on buy Music Now" an icon comes onto the desktop labled "BrowserRedirect"...clicking on the icon only duplicates the icon. This is a recent problem that seems to have arisen after a power failure which temporarily froze the Mac. How can I get back the ability to browse for, and purchase music in iTunes? THANKS for any help. You might consider reinstalling iTunes, as well as Safari, and FireFox... (Try iTunes first, do the other TWO if the problem continues)
It seems that your Macintosh has failed to keep the list of program associations with your system, and thus, no longer knows which program should manage the iTunes store...

Solve : iPod questions?

Answer»

I'm in the process of reorganizing my drives. I have designated one for programs and will designate different ones for data, depending on the program.  I have one specifically for music and plan to put all iPod music there-I have it parked on a new external drive I just bought for the time being.  The question I have is how do I move (import) the music data from where it currently is to the new music folder and get iTunes to take it?

The iPod is my daughter's and she is telling me that once I uninstalled the program iTunes, I've lost all the songs she's downloaded and she will have to repurchase them.  Is that true?

Also, does iTunes AUTOMATICALLY download in MP3 format or is that a settings issue?

Thanks for your help.   Apple has MANY restrictions on music downloaded from iTombs, I mean, iTunes. You can't easily move songs to another computer, and I would guess that if you do uninstall iTunes, you MAY not be able to ACCESS the music again.
The iTunes audio format is .aac and you can't change any settings to make them download as mp3.
There are some programs out there than can unlock the iTunes audio files so you can move them around. Take a look at www.sourceforge.net and do a search on that website for iTunes unlocker, or iTunes converter. I've seen some programs there that can help free your music. You can try ipod software to help yourself.

Does anyone know how to unlock purchases you've made through iTunes?  I can't listen to a LOT of music on my work computer because I can't authorize the machine w/ iTunes because of a firewall.  Get some mini speakers for you iPod.

Problem solved.Take the title of this thread and insert it into your favorite search engine. I like Yahoo! Search. iTunes Store purchases can be authorized in iTunes to play on up to five computers. Deauthorizing a computer allows you to manage which computers can play purchased music, videos, audiobooks, or other content.

Authorization helps protect the copyrights on the content you buy. You can use your digital rights management (DRM) protected music purchases1 from the iTunes Store on up to five different computers (this can be any mix of Macintosh or Windows-compatible computers). When you play an item you've purchased, your computer is "authorized" to play content purchased using your Apple Account.

Note: Songs you encode in AAC format from a source other than the iTunes Store, such as your own audio CDs, do not need to be authorized.

To authorize a computer to play purchases using your Apple Account
Select a song, video, or AUDIOBOOK you've purchased (in your library or the Purchased playlist).
Click the Play button.
If the computer is already authorized, the item plays. If the computer has not yet been authorized, iTunes asks you to ENTER the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the song.

Remember to deauthorize your computer before you sell it, give it away, or get your computer serviced.

To deauthorize a computer
Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Deauthorize Computer (In earlier versions of iTunes access this from the Advanced menu).
Select "Deauthorize Computer for Apple Account" and enter your Apple ID and password.
Make sure you deauthorize your computer before you UPGRADE your RAM, hard disk or other system components, or reinstall Windows. If you do not deauthorize your computer before you upgrade these components, one computer may use multiple authorizations. If you find you have reached 5 authorizations due to system upgrades, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen. Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers or if you have used this option within the last 12 months.

To deauthorize all computers associated with your account
Click iTunes Store in the Source pane.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account NAME and password.
Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All

Solve : How to import ripped mP3 files into IPOD?

Answer»

How to import ripped mP3 files into IPODDo you mean you want to know how to send the imported mp3 files to your iPod from ITUNES?well these files cant be ripped can they? because you can only rip .wma files from cd... Quote from: gamerx365 on December 19, 2007, 07:31:13 AM

well these files cant be ripped can they? because you can only rip .wma files from cd...

If he's talking about ripping from the CD why would he be FORCED to use wma.  If he's using iTunes he can't use wma.  iTunes can only convert DRM free wma to another supported FORMAT.  He has to use aac, mp3, apple lossless, etc.

I'm still not sure what this guys wants to do.  It sounds as if he wants to know how to put his ripped tracks onto his iPod.  That's simple.  Just select the tracks and DRAG them to the iPod section on the left side of the screen.

You should also read this post before making a new topic.
Is the maxtor hard drive an external hard drive?  If so, you can format it by using disk utility on your shiny new macbook pro.

Either use spotlight in the top right corner to search for disk utility, or go to Finder --> Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility.

Click on your external drive on the left side, then choose how you'd like to format it on the right side.

You shouldn't have to format it unless there's something wrong with the drive, because macs can see fat/fat32.Socrates this thread died a long time ago, last post by the OP was July 30th last year.My mistake.

Solve : Apple G5 connecting through a switcher?

How are you connecting your internet? USB, Firewire, or Ethernet?

Ethernet. So you have a modem connected to a switch with two COMPUTERS attached?
Do the modem have a built in router?
How many IPs is your ISP giving you?
The reason I ask is because most CONSUMER internet products only come with one external IP. If you only have one external IP and want to share it between several computer you need a router.
Else one computer will be given the IP and the rest will not be able to get online.

Solve : External Drive stopped working?

Answer»

I have a MacBook PRO, Leopard. I've bought and used Western Digital external hard DRIVES, formatted for Mac and they've worked fine. They're all connected through firewire. The newest one I bought let me load files into it, but now it won't let me retrieve or load any more files to it. I make sure all other programs are not running, so I know it's not lack of power. I tried the unplugging and plugging routine, didn't work. There's about 400 gigs in the drive that I need - the drive is 1 terabite. Now when I turn on the computer with the drive attached it says this computer cannot read the drive. It asks me if I want to initialize, ignore or eject. I'm afraid of losing the videos I have on the drive if I initialize. What will the initialize command do? Thank you for your thoughts.
A SlaterNever mind, I took it to a place to recover the data. YES, it's expensive, I'm disgusted with the whole thing. Now ANOTHER drive stopped working, I'm on my way to buy another brand...

Solve : Power Mac G4?

Answer»

I have just started to use the above model Apple computer (it is about 1999 vintage). It came loaded with OS 9. It has 2 hardrives in it a "normal' and a SCSI. When i 1st turned it on there was evidence on the desktop to the existence of the 2 drives. I have all the books and software for the computer. One of my 1st observations of a problem was that when i shut down and restarted the computer one of the hardrives no longer was displayed on the desktop. At the same time as this happened i could hear a "clicking" SOUND continuing as long as the computer was on. i have determined that the sound was coming from the "normal" HDD. Because i was STILL able to access the computer i assumed that the OS was on the SCSI drive.I then decided to upgrade the OS to OS X ( i have all the discs and manuals as well for that OS). During the whole process there was no longer any "clicking".At one point i was told i would "lose everything" if i continued that had previously been installed on the HDD.No problem on i went.OS X was successfully installed and seems to be fully functional. I now will pose my questions.
1.Is there a function like on Windows for "control panel" and "my computer"?
2.Why if it stated i would "lose everything" after OS upgrade can i still see MULTITUDES of applications ,etc that were there before from the 2000-2006 time frame?
3. Are HDD's Apple specific or can a HDD from a PC also be used?
4.How can i use the computers resources to determine if it is detecting 2 HDD's?
That's it for now I'm sure that there will be more questions to follow. I have and am reading the manuals but thus far the above questions are not answered from that source.Thank you, truenorthHey out there in Pippin land surely with 200 views someone has something they can help me with on this post! A hard drive is a hard drive is a hard drive. That being SAID, all you have to do is match interface, IDE, SCSI whatever and size limits. The Mac wil format the drive HFS where a PC will format FAT 32 or NTFS.
I think what you did was an upgrade in the OS, Macs do that as an installation option during install.
I would replace the offending HD as soon as possible to not risk burning out the drive controller for the drive.kand4cs, Whew! Thank you ever so much for your reply.I was on the verge of giving up that i would ever get a response.I shall soon proceed with your advise re the HDD. I shall also continue to hope that other Apple users (there must be some) will come forward to answer the rest of my questions. truenorth

Solve : Ipod Power Requirements?

Answer»

Hey,

The main POINT of this post is to see if this charger will work for my ipod (PIC below)

lSolar energy board: 5.5V/80mA
lPolymer battery: 1350mAH
lOutput voltage: 5.5V
lOutput current: 1000mA

It specifically says it works on iPod's, but you know, this isn't a solio or anything, it's just a cheap charger.

I don't know enough about power requirements and what happens if you're over or under them.
I took a look on google, but wasn't sure how to put it. Anyone want to take a shot at explaining it?

THANKS

Solve : iTunes freezes whole computer over and over again?

Answer»

I just don't know what to do anymore about this. When I open iTunes up it runs fine for a couple minutes. After those couple minutes, my computer just starts freezing up, cursor and all. It goes back to normal after it freezing, but it freezes again, but longer each time. I've already tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but nothing, and I tried scanning with a few different scanners such as AVG Free 8.5, Malwarebytes, Spyware Doctor, and Superantispyware. Still nothing. What should I do? I've had this problem for a long time...I have the newest version of iTunes now, and it still froze up with the older versions.Man I'll tell you what, iTunes just doesn't work and PLAY well with a lot of SYSTEMS. I can't use a version later than 8.0 on one of my XP systems. But okay, this is your thread, not mine.

Open msconfig and on the General Tab choose "selective startup" (disable all startup items) and reboot. Open iTunes - do you still have the problem?ill checkok it worked without freezing when i disabled all the startup programsOkay, something is conflicting with iTunes. Go back to msconfig and on the STARTUP tab disable half the startup items and reboot. See if iTunes works. If not, go back and re-enable the items you disabled and disable the other half. Once iTunes runs properly, start adding startup items back one at a time until iTunes freezes and you'll have identified the conflicting app.sweet ok THANKS, ill post what it was once i figure it OUTPLEASE do.Okay. MSCONFIG is strictly a diagnostic tool. We want to get that entry out of the registry. Are you COMFORTABLE working in the registry or would you like me to suggest a free, simple program that will do the job for you?a free program would be great, im down to 3 more startup programs on to see if it still freezes though, but i could still use the program just to be surenot so sure if im confident enough to work in the registry thoughOkay. Download Mike Lin's startup control panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml). It's a simple program. It will show you all the items that are starting up and where they startup from. Find the blank entry, right-click on it and select "delete". That's it.

Solve : Uncharted territory: Mac OSX on a PC?

Answer»

Folks,

I've started a little adventure (for me) this week and installed OSX on a PC.  I'm vaguely thinking that I MAY have a place in my web development environment for a Mac (through a virtual machine or real hardware) so it's kind of an experiment.

My first impressions have been very favourable.  I find the interface a little irritating when you want to "get under the hood", but having found the "command prompt" (terminal window) I'm a bit happier about that.  I was just interested to know - has anyone else tried this kind of thing?  How did you get on?

And can I just say that I most emphatically do NOT want a Mac vs. PC war here so please go elsewhere if you wish to Mac-/PC-/Linux-bash.  I tried tiger but I uninstalled it.  It seemed to work ok though but it didnt like my wireless adapter thingLinux r00lz!

Seriously, was hardware a problem?  Does the system seem FASTER / slower/ about the same?

For me it seemed about the same.  My hardware was personally not a problem besides my wireless adapter.
Theres a list of supported hardware here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_PageCurious Rob...did you install Virtual or is this box dedicated to MAC ? ?I already have a mac!

Start->Run Simpletext

oh wait. never mind. This box is an old Fujitsu Siemens Scenic P300.  2.4GHz/512MB.  It's a direct install, Pat, no VMs here.  I haven't flogged it MUCH yet - my impression is that the SPEED is around XP levels, maybe slight slower feeling (with the extra eye candy and effects) but far more USER friendly for the simple stuff.

The on-board network adapter wasn't recognised, but a USB adapter did the trick.

The eastern Proverb says:
"Mac user who go vista jump flom pan to hot spot."To answer your question, drivers aren't installed. If you use the Mac OS X disc, it should contain all of the missing drivers - you could also set up Vista Windows Updates to LOCATE any necessary drivers during the update process.Yeah, you'll need to finish the entire process by installing the drivers from the Mac OS X install discs. After that, you'll need to reboot and you'll have your sound and all the other components working properly. "Already running Boot Camp? Even easier.

If you’re already working with Boot Camp Beta, you’re practically finished before you start. All you need is some new drivers. To install them, simply start up your Mac in Windows and update the drivers from the Leopard DVD."
I love the FACT that the Apple website didnt provide details about this.

On this guide, ignore steps 1-12.
Look at steps 13 and beyond:

Solve : Deleting a flash drive?

Answer»

I have been using a flash drive to transfer image files from my OLD PC (Windows) to my iMac.  I deleted the files on the flash drive after copying them to iPhoto and found that the freed up memory was still not available although the drive showed EMPTY in Finder.

I note that on the Mac OS we don't have a system of "hidden files" so I plugged the flash drive back into the PC and chose "show hidden files".  LO and Behold! There appeared two folders labelled "Trashes" and one labelled "Spotlight", containing all the missing memory.  I deleted these folders whilst on the PC and recovered the memory.

So! this is the question; how do I delete files completely from the flash drive on the iMac?

On selecting "Get Info" (the flash drive now back in the iMac), and bringing up the information box on the flash drive, it informs me that the drive format is MS-DOS(FAT16); so is that the problem?  And if so, can the flash drive be reformatted?  And if it can be reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) will it still be useable on the PC?

I look forward to being enlightened.

jayessJayess,

Yes, there are hidden files on macs just like on Windows machines.

You can, in fact, reformat the flash drive to wipe it completely.  In order to do this, open up "disk utility."  (You can find this application on your mac under Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility)

Once Disk Utility is open, just click on your flash drive on the left hand side, then click on "erase" on the right side.  This will bring up a menu allowing you to rename the flash drive and choose how it's formatted.

NOTE:  If you WANT to use this with your windows machine, you'll want to format it as MS-DOS (FAT).  You cannot see a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition on a windows machine.I forgot to mention one other item.

You can also disable spotlight from ever indexing your flash drive.  Simply click on spotlight in the top right corner, then choose "Spotlight Preferences."

In there you can tell spotlight what NOT to index.  This is helpful for smaller flash drives, as it wont' take up any space on your drive for that.

As far as the trash goes, simply make sure that you empty the trash before ejecting your flash drive and it will empty the "trashes" FOLDER on your flash drive.Socrates,
Thank you again for your assistance. Problem solved!
jayessNo problem!

Solve : Problem with iPhoto 08?

Answer»

Hi! everyone,
I am fairly new to Apple having acquired an iMac only a year or so back with the Leopard OS.  I have been transferring my photo collection from my old PC to iPhoto and have a problem with one of the images as follows.

The IMAGE appears in iPhoto as a thumbnail as normal, but;
 1. Double clicking it produces a black background with a white circle containing a black exclamation mark.
 2. Clicking the "Full Screen" button produces a momentary flash of the image then a blank screen.
 3. Clicking the "Edit" button results in just a white, blank window.

I also have this image file in the Pictures folder in Finder and the image displays perfectly if opened in Preview or GIMP.  This INDICATES that the problem is only with iPhoto.  Can anyone spot where I may have gone wrong?

Jayees,

You've taken some good troubleshooting steps thus far.

Since the file does open in GIMP and preview, you're probably correct in that it's an iphoto issue.

Try removing the photo out of iPhoto altogether, and then adding it back in.

If that doesn't work, try this:
Remove from iPhoto completely
Open the photo in GIMP or preview, and choose "save as."  Save the photo under a different name, and BRING it back into iPhoto.

Let us know how this turns out!socrates,
I did, in fact, rescan the photograph and imported it to iPhoto successfully as a new file and it behaves normally.
I FOUND I was unable to remove the original file, the one giving all the trouble, from iPhoto, because when I tried to export it a dialogue box came up saying "unable to create...", and if I tried to "Cut" using the Edit menu and paste it into GIMP another box came up saying there was nothing on the clipboard.  After trying this paste into GIMP I reopened iPhoto and found the thumbnail of the file was back in place!!?
The only way I could get the file out of iPhoto was to trash it and empty the trash.  The recalcitrant file is therefore irretrievable and I SUPPOSE, now, the reason for it's behaviour will forever remain a mystery.  Thank you for your reply and suggestions.
jayessNo problem at all.

It does sound like the photo was corrupt (in the iPhoto database, at least).

Let me know if anything else comes up.

You might want to make sure that your drive is a DVD drive and the disc you have is a DVD.  If your disc is a DVD and your drive is only a CD rom (or cdrw) you won't be able to boot off of the disc.

Another OPTION when booting is to press and hold the "alt" or "option" key as SOON as you turn the power on.  This will bring up the apple boot menu that allows you to choose what to boot from.

The fact that the computer won't "multitask" applications (locks up if one is initiated until another is done) makes me think it's a problem with the Random Access Memory.

Unless, of course, it's a problem with the OSX installation, itself... Quote from: adamboyer86 on April 21, 2009, 01:16:57 AM
???ok.. I have and eMac. I know that it's kinda old, but that's besides the point...  this computer never had any problems until i decided to get a video ipod.  To support the ipod, i had to upgrade from its original running system, to mac-osx (leopard)...  $100 and a new memory card later, my ipod works great.  the problem is, my computer doesn't....  I didn't notice any problems until a couple months later... NOW!, I cant even load a single page or program until the previous one is done loading. (If i do anything while a file or internet page is loading, the computer locks up and i have to reboot). It is frustrating to even look at this computer. I'm not stupid with computers, but i really don't understand what  this thing is doing!  Please help... I want my computer back!..

I would have highly recommended UPGRADING to OS 10.4 (Tiger) INSTEAD of 10.5 (Leopard) in your case.  Leopard requires some pretty new hardware, and quite frankly, your emac is very old.

However, what's done is done.  I would recommend getting some more RAM for your system.  What does yours have currently?

Solve : address bar problem?

Answer»

When I open Safari on my computer (an iMac) the following appears on my address bar "HTTP://[p']" and of course I get a message the the web page can not be opened.  What I have been doing is deleting the "[p'] and then typing in "Yahoo.com" to get on the web.  What I NEED to know is how do I get rid of that "[p'] that shows up on the address bar every time I open Safari.  Any and all help will be appreciated.  TIA   Johnjbre1,

Somehow your homepage just got set to that WEIRD address.

Simply open up Safari, and click on "Safari" up in the top left corner of your iMac.  Then click on "preferences."

Once preferences opens up, make sure you are in the "General" section found in the top left corner of preferences.

Simply GO to HOME page: and type in whatever you'd like your homepage to be (Example: http://www.yahoo.com)

Once that's done, simply close out of preferences by clicking on the red circle in the top left corner.

From now on, when you open up safari, it should come up to your homepage of choice.

cheers.U R Da man - Thank you so much for your response.  You have really kept me from going crazy - ok - crazier.  I knew that the solution had to be simple but this 77 year old key pusher in not exactly hi tech literate.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH.  John in El Paso, TXNo problem, John.  Always glad to help.

Solve : Artists catalogue and the way its displayed.?

Answer»

Hi FOLKS ,

Once again I could use some help. lol And THANKS in advance.

My Ipod currently displays an artists catalogue of albums in alpahbetical order. This is great and probably wouldn't irk most people but I'd much rather it display the catalogue in the order the albums were released by year.

Is this possible?  MP1975,

I've never heard of anyone asking to do what you're trying to do.  However, to each his own.

I have a possible solution, but haven't been able to test it, so bear with me.

Open up iTunes (on your computer) and go to file --> new smart PLAYLIST.

Choose "Artist" "is not" and then type in a bunch of random weird characters, like #)(!*#)(.

It will then make a playlist with all of your music in it.
Once you have that made, go to "view" and choose "view options."
From there, make sure that "release date" is checked.

You should then see that column appear and you can sort all of your music by that.

Try sorting them that way in iTunes, and once it looks like you want it, sync your iPod again.  Hopefully it will retain the sort settings (albeit, a long shot).

Let me know how it turns out, I'm curious to see if it works.Socrates ,

Just printed out your response, TYVM , and will try it soon as I get the time.

Not many people care what year something came out lol ,most my friends never even kept their music in alphabetical order lol I on the other hand had them and still do in alphabetical order by date of issue. lol And since my daughter bought me this Ipod it just bugs me to look at Tull and see something I'm not use too. lol

Thanks again.No problem.

Glad to help.

Let me know how it turns out.Socrates ,

No go joe! lol

Brought my laptop to work, believe it or not I have more time here to BS AROUND then home. Tried your theory and, unless I missed a step, it didn't work.

I  will play around with it and thank you much for the insite. Who knows maybe I'll "TRIP" over it myself. lolThe problem I find is you cannot sort two columns. IE 1. being artist the second being year or release date. I also noticed when you check release date , or anything new for that matter, in view options it just adds an empty column to yoru i-tunes.That's my understanding as well.  It was worth the shot, but I don't think you're going to be able to do it with this version of iTunes.I thank you for your help, time and giving it the old college try.

"IF" Something ever comes out or I Tunes comes out with a version that does the basic's (lol IMHO) by all means send me a message if I stumble on it first ( FAT CHANCE) I'll do the same.

Thanks again.I don't know if I'd consider what you're trying to do "the basics."  In all of my time supporting macs and pc's, I've never heard of anyone asking to sort their music by album and then by year of release.  It's usually either one way or the other.

Is there another program you use that can do this?Socrates ,

(Scratches head) Excel ? Ever since I was a wee lad and the Beatles played Ed Sullivan and I started buying 45's then records etc etc I have kept my collection in alphabetical / year released order.

Example ;

Artist - Aerosmith

1973 - Aerosmith
1974 - Get your wings
1975 - TOYS in the attic
1976 - Rocks
1977 - Draw the Line

You get the picture.

Why would I put Draw the line (1977) right after Aerosmith (1973) ?

When you go to an artists site or a decent record store do they list the catalogue in alphabetical order. Actually this is a good example. You go to a record store the "STORE" or file in this case is in alphabetical order, usually by music type, then you got to an artist and they have a divider listing the artists catalogue by year of release.

I admit its a bit *censored* lol just the way I'm use to viewing things. I look at Floyd and see Atom heart mother before Saucerful of secrets and I scratch my head. lol
Well of course you can do it in Excel.  Perhaps my question should have said: "is there another music program you can do this in?"

AFAIK, winamp, iTunes, WMP, etc. can't do it.  But correct me if I'm wrong.

I can see why you would want to SHOW them like you are describing.  Who's on first? lol

No, before I got this Ipod I never needed to maintain a listing in anything other then excel. And the only software I've tried it in so far is I-Tunes.  Windows Media Player- the version included with Vista... (11) can "sort of" do it. I managed to get it sorted by Artist, and then "subsorted" by year. Wether it would transfer to an Ipod like that is another question, though. The tough part is that even if WMP did interface with the iPod, the best you could do is make a playlist with the albums sorted the way you wanted them.

What I mean by this is that WMP's interface (with sorting included) wouldn't transfer to the iPod even if you found a way to use WMP with the iPod.Does not look like this is going to happen, anytime soon anyway. lol

Thanks much for the help.

Solve : Macbook Ram?

Answer»

Goodafternoon Gents,

I just upgraded my macbook ram from 1.5gb 667mhz ddr2 to 3gb ram, But i honestly see a very small difference. Does anyone know if this is normal or perhaps i need to do something more? Any answers will be appreciated thanx.  Processor Name:

Intel CORE 2 Duo
Processor Speed:   2 GHz
Number Of Processors:   1
Total Number Of Cores:   2
L2 Cache:   4 MB
Memory:   3 GB
What did you have in there for ram before?

Also, what applications are you using?

For example:  If you're just browsing the web and word processing you're not really going to notice the ram difference.  However, if you're using Photoshop, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Logic, etc. you will definitely notice it (or even if you're just opening a bunch of small apps at once).Thanx for the REPLY. I had 1.5 gigs before i upgraded to 3 gigs. I usually for the most part use it for the internet. you cant have an odd figure like that 1 gb is slightly larger then that.  Assumeing that it was probably 128 mb your probably not going too.Squall... are you saing 3GB is 128MB more then 1.5GB? where does 128MB come in? Honestly, you may not notice the speed difference right away then.  It will help immensely if you ever start using those other programs, or even if you just start multitasking more (having an instant messenger open, word document, internet, email, etc.).

It will also help down the road as apps continually need more and more ram. Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 17, 2009, 08:02:53 AM

cause you cant have 1.5 gb of ram no matter what they dont make such an odd number goes from 128 mb , 512 mb, 1 gb which are all slightly larger 1 gb is really 1043 gb only a few mb bigger so I have to assume thats what he had installed. Quote from: squall_01 on June 17, 2009, 11:54:45 AM

That's not true.

The macbook has 2 open slots, as do many notebooks.  Depending on the type of ram, it may or may not need to be paired.  If it does not need to be paired, it's possible to have 1.5 gigs (1 1 gig stick + 1 512mb stick).

ah you simpified it which threw me off.  I'm used to seeing it as 1,512 gb instead since its just more common or make it in a differnt way like half a gig an a gig.actually 1,512 is not even an option.

If it were 1.5 gigs it would be 1,536 megs.that maybe so but that is not what they put on the ram its self.  Possible that it may be something else you should notice a differnece some what. They don't always even put the size on a stick of ram.  I was just pointing out that you didn't know what you were talking about.I know, I think that I been in this bussiness long enough to be able to tell mind you. Solve : Folder with finder and ?mark?

Answer»

Help system wont boot all i see is a older with FINDER and ?mark
i think it misplaced finder how can a computer MISPLACE a file?
PLZ helpYeah, that icon means the system can't find the main boot volume.

This is most likely due to the software being corrupt.

One way this can happen is by force shutting down the computer frequently.

I would get out your MAC OS X INSTALL DISCS and run the first one.  On the disc is a program titled "Disk Utility." (This assumes you have 10.3 or later).

Use disk utility to "repair disk" on your main hard drive, and then see if it boots.

Solve : Unlock an iPhone?

Answer»

My son BORROWED my iPhone and inadvertently "locked it". He didnt realize he had DONE so and hasn't a clue how to unlock it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
PeterJust checking .... when you said your iPhone has been locked, you meant the phone will keep on asking you for the correct password before you can continue using the phone as normal? (passcode I think it's called)Sounds LIKE it to me, as his son couldn't really inadvertently "lock" and unlocked iPhone unless he synced it with the COMPUTER and restored it.

I believe you can reset the password for the lock code by syncing the phone with your computer.  There should be an option in iTunes to reset the passcode.Thanks........I did as you said (and an Apple tech support) and resynched it with my computer and was able to reset my passcode.

PeterGood.  Glad to hear it worked!

Solve : COBY MP610-2G blank screen?

Answer»

Hey guys i'm trying to FIGURE out why my SCREEN on my MP3 is blank. its like completely blank it started with frozen pixels of the volume so I would turn it off then back on.
( P.S. I know COBY has nothing to do with apple but i couldn't find a CATEGORY that it would fit under )yeah, unfortunately there's not really a good place to post this type of question, so apple will have to do.

There's not really much you can do if it's a flash mp3 player.  My first suggestion to try would be to turn it on, let the BATTERIES drain completely, then charge it fully again.  Sometimes this works with iPods (shuffles, nanos, videos, really any of them).

Let me know if that helps at all.

Solve : Windows/Linux On Mac??

Answer»

Can you install Windows or Linux on a Macbook with an Intel CPU?

I know that when Macs used the PowerPC you had to have a PPC OS such as Windows NT or UBUNTU 6.10

But now that Macs use Intel CPU's can they run Windows or Linux?
And what Linux would they use, an I386 disto?you can in fact install windows on an intel cpu mac.

Apple even provides the software (installation gui and drivers) for windows xp and vista.  (Do a google search of "boot camp")

As far as linux goes, it's definitely something you can install, but you need to have working drivers for your mac.  The easiest way to do this is use parallels or vmware to install a virtual machine of linux on your mac.  If you want a native boot version you may have to do a bit more searching. There are also even LUG's(Linux User Groups) that can help you install and run Linux on whatever computer you wish. Quote from: socrates on July 28, 2009, 02:51:43 PM

The drivers can be downloaded from the Mac site.Correct.  Or if you have Mac OS 10.5, they are on your install dvd.So I could buy a Macbook, completely erase the HDD.
And Install Windows XP and it would work with drivers and everything? Why would you want to?

With the Mac I believe that the processor matters.  Are all the new Macbooks Intel chips?

Unless it's for gaming you would get a lot more power with Linux, of course the whole 'ease of use' is a factor there.Hello,

If you would like to test a linux DISTRO on a MAC, try USING FIRST a LiveCD of a certain distro. You could try out Ubuntu and see if all your peripherals would work on your MAC. Quote from: Cityscape on July 31, 2009, 03:54:06 PM

So I can erase the HDD and reinstall with Windows and use the windows drivers from the Mac disk? Quote from: jerryheavyarms on August 01, 2009, 06:33:36 AM

I haven't ever tried to do it the way you're suggesting, and boot camp is not meant to work that way.  Boot camp aids you in installing windows xp on a second partition or second hard drive... not as the primary OS.  If you are going to install windows and completely remove Mac OS X, why would you even get a mac?if you just want windows xp and you are not planning to do anything heavy duty, a cheap non-mac laptop or desktop would suffice as long as you got at least 512 mb of ram. agreed.  BootCamp = Windows on Mac
VirtualBox = Linux on Mac

But buying a computer w/windows is a lot cheaper if you are just going to wipe the Mac Hard drive and install Windows

...GET it back?

The book is Eoin Colfer, Supernaturalist.

i simply want to re-download a book I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR without paying again.

when i try and buy it using the menu, it says i could "buy it again" otherwise go to store, check for available downloads.

when i do that, it says everything has been downloaded. what do i do?Contact the music store where you got the audiobook from, I think Apple would let you redownload a music or audiobook from your history (meaning you've already bought)how'd i view my history?soz for double post,

Yes, the decision is more in the hands of who owns the material rather than Apple.

If you have the audiobook on your iPod, you can hook it up to your computer and choose "transfer purchases" and it will put it back in your library.I knew that socraties, but I long since formatted that iPod Nano... Gave it to my brother, if memory serves.so did you get your MISSING audiobook back?

if that's the case, then your only option is to contact the company who owns the rights to the audiobook.  If you still have your email receipt from apple, the company would probably be more willing to give you the download again. The email is ARCHIVED somewhere, yeah. Posting back later with ANSWERS.
