Solve : Old Powermac g3 beige destop possible Update??

Answer»

Ok so I have this Beige Powermac G3 destop with the old Powerpc processor. Its already updated in most terms which information will be provided at the end. My idea or question is, am i able to add a firewire port to this powermac. I have a firewire card lying around that i had from my old i Ghz PC and the powermac doesn't have USB or firewire and i was wondering what can I do to make this WORK. Any ideas? Im currently running OS 9.2 but I can upgrade it to 10.2.

specs before upgrade:

233 Mhz processor
32 Mb RAM
4 GB hard drive
cd rom

after: P.S i didn't do this upgrade i got this computer with UPGRADES done already
233 Mhz processor
225 Mb RAM
20 GB hard drive
CD-RW

The computer works great other than the fact the floppy drive won't CONVERT IBM floppy to mac floppy but other that that it runs great. I want a firewire port so i can connect it to my 2008 macbook.

Any help WOULD be greatly appreciated.

Solve : 3000 songs?

Answer»

Hello to all ,
Recently I bought an Ipod Classic 120GB with about 3000 songs on it . When I plug it in to my computer it automatically  shows in itunes with all its contents , I can sync , delete , create playlists ...basically do whatever I want ,but when I eject it , all the music goes with the Ipod , Itunes is not allowing me to keep those songs in my Itunes library. The reason I want to sync all that music to my computer is that this is used Ipod and I would like to restore it , but if I do that with all the songs on it without back up I will loose them forever . My QUESTION is : how can I transfer those music files to either Itunes or my computer so they will STAY safe while I reset my Ipod ?
Thanks very much for any suggestions Simple all you NEED to do is enable the ipod to use external hard drive MODE then go into My Computer, click on the ipod drive letter, you may need to show hidden files by going, tools, folder options, View tab, click show hidden files and folders.

Now you should see a hidden folder in the ipod which should be CALLED Ipod Control in that will be Music and in that will be lots of folder like F01,F02... in those folders is your music.

Copy the whole music folder to your desktop.
Sync the iPod with your pc
Then reimport the music into itunes.

Problem Solved.

Answer»

Hi, before you think my screen is busted and needs replacing, It's not completely busted,
it is very dark and I cannot change the brightness, I am USING an externel monitor right now because it is impossible to use it at all without it.

Switching to Mac wasn't easy lol. Sounds like your Display Inverter is damaged. Bring it back to the Apple Store. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on July 29, 2010, 08:58:12 AM

Sounds like your Display Inverter is damaged. Bring it back to the Apple Store.

But I don't have crApple care.  Apple Care is a free repair and warranty service. If you TAKE it back to the store, they should be able to repair it, but it'll cost you.

It might be worth getting a new laptop. You can use Time Machine to transfer everything to the new Mac.

Solve : iBook won't recover with original CDs. Want to downgrade?

Answer»

Hi,

I have an iBook g4 and it is great.  I had os x 10.4 but got an upgrade cd to 10.5.  Thus REALLY slowed the computer down tones.  I have now decided to downgrade back using the original recovery CDs that came with the iBook.  I put the cd in, clicked restart entered password, it restarted but then showed a small file with a question mark for a sec then a Mac icon in the same sized folder.  And then CONTINUED booting the 10.5 operating system.  Does anybody know how to stop this and recover?  I tried to partition the hard drive but the same thing happened.

Any HELP welcomed thanksApple lets you know, but I would be glad to help. BASICALLY, knowing you have a PowerPC (Apple iBook G4), your parameter RAM needs to be reset, since a previous reinstall temporarily made your Mac forget the exact location of the bootloader so it looks for a minute. All you need to do is boot up, and press Cmd+Opt+P+R. On the second chime, let go, and now to wrap up: Go to the Apple menu -> System Preferences... -> Startup Disk -> Choose the disk you want to start up on (like "Macintosh HD Mac OS X v10.4.11") and click Restart. In the sheet that rolls out, click Restart.

Problem solved. It's literally that easy. The first PART worked with the second chime, but i tryed to select the cd to start up on and i still go the same result the second time.  I booted, pushed the required keys, it restarted again, i herd the chime, i let go, it booted into 10.5, i went to system preferences bla bla bla, selected the restart it restarted BUT got the same boot as i described above, saw the mac icon and question mark then it continued to boot to 10.5. i tryed again to no avail.  Oh and when you say  "Macintosh HD Mac OS X v10.4.11" I do not have a HD with mac 10.4 on it, but i do have a cd. By this do you mean the cd? that could be the problem.  Oh and if it helps, the cd is 10.4.2. Quote from: jacksonc on August 14, 2010, 11:48:08 PM

Jackson, if you did those steps and then saw the question mark that means the disc you inserted is not a bootable disc with your mac.  If the disc isn't retail version (or the disc that came with that model mac), then it won't work.  For instance, you can't take a Mac OS X 10.4.2 installer from an iMac and put it in an iBook.  It either needs to be retail or from the same model computer.thank you for replying.  I am sure that they are the original cds.  I think it is something to do with the fact that 10.5 doesn't recognise Classic programs (which the installation CD seem to have for some reason).  I have now tried creating an image of Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and hopefully i can use disk utility to restore from that image.  I just dint understand why this would happen.  If the image doesn't work, i will ask for more great help.  Thanks for you replies.Well I have found the problem.  My family also has a Mac Mini from the same year and had the same operating system discs because of this.  I thought that I would just test to see if my Apple iBook would boot up with Disc 1 of Mac Mini CD and to my suprise it worked.  I then tried my original iBook G4 and it didnt boot.
I now clearly know that the iBook G4 that came with my machine does not boot or really work.  Thanks for all the help.  It does look like a completely original CD the only difference between them that i could see was the size of the system folder (bigger for the iBook) and the AHT versions are different (1.1 for Mac Mini and 2.5 for the iBook).  Both operating systems are the same (10.4.2)

Solve : Ipod disaster?

Answer»

Hello

So I've got a serious problem with my iPod. Basically, my computer went in for repairs- it was very slow so they made it faster somehow and also put a new hard disk. Now I have connected my iPod to my computer, but iTunes won't open. I can't find it anywhere so I guess it's gone. What should I do? Is there any possibility that I could copy all the songs from my iPod to my computer (I have Windows XP)? PLEASE help me, I don't know what to do! :/Reinstall iTunes.I already did it yesterday, but when I OPENED it, it sayd something like "This iPod is synced with another iTunes blahblah.." So basically it asked me if I wanted to replace my current songs in the iPod with the ones in this new iTunes library... But there were no songs in this new library and I can't find any of those in my computer either so I guess they have just been deleted when my computer was being repaired....I don't know - it's hard to tell from here.... Maybe you should ask the repair service. Thanks, Allan. I guess I will ask.. It sucks that all my songs have like.. VANISHED Well,if they're still on you're ipod at least you've got them. In the future you should backup your system - or at least your songs. I have 700 cd's ripped to my system and they are backed up on 3 other computers and 3 external drives. It was simply too much work to lose. The music might have got deleted when the comp was given for repair. Either MANUALLY deleted or got deleted if formatted. DEPENDS which ipod u have, touch / classic / .. There are limited number of times u can authorize ur ipod to a comps. If u try to exceed the number of authorized times, it will not get authorized. I have heard in ipod classic u can transfer/copy music to comp if u enable disk use in itunes.  But in touch, its not possible. Only possible one way ie - from comp to ipod.

Tip - Best to backup music and important stuff to cd / external hard drive u may not know when ur computer will crash

Solve : White Macbook "Check Battery" Condition?

Answer»

Anyone know how to FIX a "Check Battery" Condition on a White Macbook? I don't even have 200 cycles on it. One time my Battery health WENT down to 6% then it went back up to 90% now its at 76% when it was just at 89%. Anyone know how to fix it?
^^^
According to iStat Pro

It is a Early 2008 13 Inch Macbook

IStat Pro is not developed by Apple and might not be an accurate tool for checking hardware health.

Are you experiencing any problems with the charge?

The Picture I provided was from the System Profiler.

I haven't had any problems with the battery getting charged but I had once before less then a month ago that my battery just died out of no where and went down to 5% health then went back up to 92% health after I charged it.

Do you think calibrating the battery will help?Yes, calibrating the battery can help, but usually when you see the "check battery" status you have a defective or dead battery.

If your laptop is still under warranty and you havent' even gotten 200 cycles out of it, then apple will replace the battery for free.

Solve : Alternatives to iTunes that WORK WITH THE iPAD??

Answer»

I've found and downloaded numerous alternatives, mainly because my iTunes/Quicktime won't work (see other post if you THINK you can help, please!), and they have all ended with the result of being deleted. Of course, I USE Winamp for my iPod, but would appreciate greatly if there could be a program LIKE iTunes with the ability to sync to all Apple products (coughcoughmyipadcough) and do all the things iTunes can, maybe more.

And it has to be free and downloadable, too, because I'm an Asian. :3 Of course, I could also torrent it.

I appreciate any help in advance. Have you tried VLC? It's free, and plays everything going. It's not an official port, and the folks behind VLC issued a takedown notice to Apple yesterday, so it might disappear from the appstore at any moment. Grab it while you can.Would you recommend getting an imac? or an i PAD or mac book? i really dont know why to get i really need help! Quote from: drizzle123 on November 03, 2010, 06:07:15 AM

Where did you get this bogus information?

VideoLan hired Applidium to make an APP for Apple iOS devices. It is an official port and will be in the App Store indefinitely.

I strongly suggest you try it. Works fabulously on my iPod Touch.

Solve : I lost Adobe Illustrator on my Mac?

Answer»

We were gifted an old MAC computer that had a few of the Adobe products, including Adobe Illustrator CS2. I experimented with the product for a while and then I suddenly couldn't find it anymore.  When I GO to open a picture from desktop, for example, and right click the "open with" option, Adobe Illustrator is one of the options, but when I choose that option, it tells me that it "could not complete the requested operation". When I open the applications under "finder", Adobe Illustrator is not there, but there are a few other Adobe products (in design, e.g, and PHOTOSHOP). Does ANYONE know how I can get Adobe illustrator to function again? Thats very strange how it jest disappeared like that.

Check the recycling bin. You didnt accidentally DELETE it did you?

Solve : White screen when turning on iMac?

Answer»

When I turn on my IMAC, all I am getting is a completely white screen. There is no home page. I have a 2007 iMac.If this is right after or before the chime, you have a firmware or hardware problem that NEEDS to be serviced by Apple(R).I would reset the PRAM by holding down the command-option-p-r keys while the computer is off then turn it on while holding those keys down.  When you hear the startup chime after the 1st time, it is ok to let go.

If that doesn't work, reseat your RAM (unplug your computer then physically take the RAM out of the computer and put it back in).  Then after that try KNOWN good RAM.  If the problem continues, take it in to your applecare specialist before replacing your logic board.

Hey y'all I'm sorry if this has been answered before - I tried looking and didn't find much on it.
SO, I recently got a mac book pro which works fine and hooked up my epson STYLUS nx515 printer to it. Which has also been working fine, but this morning I went to print something and it told me that the printer was offline so I unplugged everything and turned everything off. Now, the printer seems to be online: I tell the document to print and it seems LIKE it will ( the ICON APPEARS and shows a document PRINTING and then disappears). And that's it. No printed document. How can I get it to print?

Solve : Email Sent From My Iphone?

Answer»

What do I have to do to have my email sent from my iphone to look like it has come from my domain name rather then something GENERIC like gmail or yahoo etc?You need to enter your MAIL incoming and outgoing servers into your iphone e-mail app. For the incoming server you should enter mail.'yourdomain.com' (Or whatever was specified for your domain when you signed up) – (substituting your own domain name for yourdomain.com). For the outgoing mail server you should enter mail.'yourdomain.com' as before (Again or whatever was specified for your domain when you signed up).

E-mail USERNAME will be '[email protected]'
Then your password you use to login to your domain WEB mail. yeah, what laurence said. i've always had confusion on how to actually add my own domain instead of gmail, but just type in your whole email and pw and it should work!

Solve : Should I buay a refurb Mac Book ??

Apple’s Original MacBook Air Finally Makes Sense to Buy. As a Refurb!

With two new MacBook Air computers released, Apple has finally treated the Special Deals section of its ONLINE store to some old-generation units priced at just $849. We’re talking about the 13-inch model which comes with a standard of 2GB of memory, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and a 13.3-inch display.

Remember when we asked Why Would You Buy the MacBook Air?. Well, you can now buy one for just $849. And it's the updated model with an NVIDIA 9400M chipset. Although it may sound surreal, it’s not.
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Apple-s-Original-MacBook-Air-Finally-Makes-Sense-to-Buy-As-a-Refurb-162583.shtml

Would you? Should I?Whats its storage capacity? The HD spec in the article was 120GB.

This comment in the article makes me pause.

Quote
For those who consider mobility more of a priority than a fast processor, the old-generation MacBook Air selling for $849 is clearly a bargain.

All things considered, unless you are a die hard Apple fan, I would take a second look at a windows laptop for that price. As long as  you think that the processor is fast enough for you. I have used Macs for 25 years now and have never had a hardware failure. You might want to MAKE SURE that it is an Intel Mac so that you can take advantage of the latest. But a brand new macbook air is only a hundred bucks more - is it really worth saving a hundred bucks for what is essentially a really slow machine? The new air actually beats the current macbook pros in most benchmarks, even though it has a slower processor, because it uses SSDs. I'd go with the new machine, enjoy the extra speed, and the peace of mind that comes with a brand new machine and full warranty.Getting an 'old' MacBook Pro still gets you the full warranty.

And the MacBook Air is by no means a powerful computer, when compared with the other Macbooks.I always buy refurb. they come with a warrenty and usually last longer then the brand ew ones cause all the bugs have been ficed with the refurb.I have never had any problems with REFURBISHED Macs.  I recommend that option to people regularly.Refurbs work fine. It actually depends on how you take care of it.

Solve : Internet Keeps crapping out?

Answer»

High, I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.4, and Its a  Mac someone gave to me, unluckily while doing a spotlight I typed V (I was searching for a video) and it accidentally (the touchy-touchpad) clicked on Vuze, (of course a Torrent application). And that's when things started to screw up.

I don't know what the *censored* happend, but then my internet connection JUST DIED.
Even after I closed Vuze it still messed up, Also, Mac OS X asked me if I wanted to allow Vuze to connect, I clicked Deny. :/
It works fine on my other computers, but not for this Mac. I tried the Network Diagnostics tool, and after a 'test' or whatever, it started working again. But this only lasted for a Few Minutes before it quit working again.

So I trashed Vuze.app into the trash Bin, CleanMyMac asked me if it wants to uninstall it completely, I chose No.

I tried it again, but it doesn't show me a dialog box anymore. And If I trash it out of the trash, (empty the trash bin), It will still leave all it's garbage 'Vuze' files all over my HDD, so I'm stuck here, I don't know what to do.

Is it my ISP that banned my IP address?
I also read somewhere while searching, that "...BASICALLY your DoS'ing yourself " ... " FLOODING your own connection"... I DON'T *censored* KNOW!!!
I don't know anything!!! I don't know what to do, Nothing!!! I am COMPLETELY stuck on this!!! ;(

What am I suposed to do? Someone please just help me, I don't know what to do and I need help really badly.... Can someone tell me what I can/should do? I tried restarting it, but that does nothing still.

Please help me!  Oh come on! Is nobody replying because 'Vuze' is illegal?

Or is it because I 'bumped' my own thread (or it looks like I did because I was the only poster here!?)
Oh god forbid I mention 'torrent'! Quote from: deargodpleasehelp on October 17, 2010, 08:30:28 AM

no

EDIT: We don't have very many regular members who are familiar with OSX.Another possible reason is that you're a constant complainer and whiner. But I could be wrong.Start with a hardware diagnostic.  You're on 10.4 so I can't tell if you're using power PC or an intel processor.  If you have an intel processor, use the disc that came with it and hold down D when you boot up.

Are you on wireless or plugged in?  I'm not too familiar with tiger, but in snow LEOPARD I would remove the internet connection in airport by clicking on the connection and clicking the (-) key on the bottom.  Then click the (+) key to create a new one.  Also make sure your proxy settings are off.  If you do happen to have proxy settings on there, you're more than likely infected with a virus.  Your wireless card could be crapping out on ya too.  It's just really hard to tell without having the computer.

Since you got the computer secondhand I would suggest you backup your data and reload the Mac.  Boot to the disc that came with your computer and hold down D.  Make sure you run disk utility to format the drive before clicking 'next' to reinstall it.  If you do a re-install of OSX without formatting first, all of your old crap will still be there. If  You  are  new  to  Mac  OSX  and  You  also  happen  to  be  Lucky  enough  to  live  close  to  an  Apple  Store  I  would  suggest  taking  your  Mac  to  the  Genius Bar  to  have  a  Genius  take  a  look  at  it  before  You  Stress  yourself  out  further  - and  potentially  risk  doing  something  that  could  have  a  negative  effect  on  your  Mac  .  You  can  schedule  an  appointment  in  advance  via  Apple's  Website  or  drop-in  and  wait  for  an  available  time  slot .  Apple  has  Excellent  Customer  Service  ,  and  chances  are  they  will  be  able  to  fix  whatever  needs  to  be  fixed  in  a  matter  of  minutes  right  there  in  front  of  you  .  This  service  is  Free  of  course  .  Another  thing  that  works  with  Macs  is  to  Firewire  yours  to  another  Mac  and  set  it  to  Target Disc Mode   -  then  step  back  and  allow  the  other  Mac  to  "Fix"  your  Mac ...

Yes, thank you for the info, I will use this wisely next time I make a post.

Also, due to CH's restrictions, I am unable to edit my post right now, they seem to be set on a time limit; that therefor- after the time is up, the post can no longer be edited. So if an admin could handle this him/herself, because I am not in control of old posts anymore, that would certainly do us [italic]All[/Italic] a favour.

Solve : Macintosh Power PC running Windows??

Answer»

OK I know that a Mac with a Power PC CPU can run windows on it using an emulator but can it run using bootcamp? Youtube's users SAY no. I believe its possible. What do you think?I believe the issue is that windows was compiled for x86 CPU types, and so you need an emmulator to act like x86. Unless bootcamp can emmulate x86 it is not possible.Latest version of windows with PowerPC support was NT4, and I doubt  that is the proper "type" of support for use on a mac. Not to mention there won't be a chance in *censored* of finding the right drivers anyway.

You can install windows within a virtualization environment, but aside from that you aren't GOING to get any semi-modern version of windows running- natively- on the system, and even if you do you won't be able to run about 99.9999% of windows programs since they will be compiled for either x86 or x64.

It's not a matter of opinion wether you can get, say, Windows XP running on a PowerPC. it's an established fact. 2000 and up don't have a PowerPC version, and NT and earlier are unlikely to even be able to install, let alone be able to find drivers or run any sort of windows software, which would sort of defeat the entire purpose of installing windows in the first place.I understand the old imacs are OLDER systems. I was wondering about getting windows 98 SE running in bootcamp. Will i find drivers for it? What do you mean in the terms of

Windows 98SE runs ONLY on x86 and compatible machines.

I mean the latest version of Windows with PowerPC support was NT4. It wasn't designed for Macs or any sort of computer running macs, and was designed more for PowerPC servers of some sort. Not to mention this was back in 1996 or something.ok then what about win 95? And what is x86 compatible machine? Is that the bios? Quote from: comda on January 11, 2011, 08:15:43 PM

No.There's a version of DOSBox that should run on a mac .

You can play DOS games with DosBox emulator. I don't know if it'll run on an old PPC mac, but you can give it a try. MACINTOSH Performa 640 DOS can run both simultaneoulsy.  It had 2 motherboards in 1 box, actually, the DOS computer was a plug-in card.  It came with Windows95 and MACOS 7.1.  I had one.

Solve : iPhone won't sync/show up on my computer.?

Answer»

Hi.

I'm trying to connect my iPhone 3G with my iTunes and it won't EVEN show up on my computer. This is strange because, for the past two years it has synced with ease. The phone won't even charge when it is plugged in, it is almost as if it hadn't been CONNECTED to the computer at all.

Some background info...
About one month ago my computer shut down and wouldn't start, so I brought it to a computer place where they fixed it. Right after I got my computer back my phone wouldn't sync to my computer. At first, I thought it was the version of iTunes I had (10.1), but that was the current version.

Can anybody help me figure this out? I'm a college student so I don't have the money to keep bringing my computer back to the technicians.

Technical info...

I have a Microsoft WINDOWS Studio Laptop with Windows Vista and Intel Core 2 Duo

I'm not really sure what else to list, I'm not computer savvy at all. :/Have you tried another iPod cable?

What about testing to see if another computer picks it up?as the guy above says - try another cable.

also maybe try another device on your MACHINE.

Answer» HI!

I was  SEARCHING half of day on web for Mac Os 1.1 released in 1984... for emulator Apple IIE "AppleWin"

I tried to extract it with many utilities, most recommended HFV Explorer, but it helps not, EVERYTIME fails.

I know only that SIT is compressed archive of diskimage.

I need DSK images, so here is big Q:

Please, can anybody extract files from SIT to DSK?

If, please contact me and I can to send disk files in RAR or ZIP archive...

Many many thanks for every reply, every help...

Solve : GUID / MBR partition scheme woes?

Answer»

Hello,

I am installing OSX on my HARD DRIVE, which already has windows installed (I won't go into details, but yes I KNOW that it isn't possible under "normal" circumstances to install OS X on a non-MAC computer. I will say as much that I have purchased a legal, valid copy of OSX, however).

My Issue is, it isn't possible (afaik) to convert a hard drive using the MBR partition scheme to GUID partition table without deleting all the partitions on it, effectively losing all data stored on those partitions.

I have a windows partition that I do not want to lose. My idea was to schrink the NTFS partition to a smaller one (just large enough to fit all my data) and copying it to an external hard drive.

Then, I could delete all my partitions, reformat the drive using the GUID partition table scheme, install OSX on one of the new partitions I would create, and then finally copy the Windows Partition back onto the drive and expand it to its original size.

My concerns:

1. What is the best **FREE** Partition management/Backup software that I could use (must be bootable) to accomplish this?
2. Will I be able to copy over the MBR type windows partition to the hard drive after its been converted to a GUID Partition Table Drive?

My Thoughts:

http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread218597.html

This article explains using a utility to "sync MBR to GPT" but is that necesary? AFAIK, Windows 7 64 bit supports GPT, so if I don't need to sync it in anyway, and it can work be transfered regardless of the partiton schemes, that would be great.

If it does have to by synced.. how would I accomplish this?

I just want to install OSX alongside my pre existing windows partition, without losing my data or reinstalling windows.

Thanks for any help in advance
DiatechWell, it's all *censored*. May I offer negative remarks? My experience with the GUID is only with Windows and Apple. The experience was not very happy.

What works best for me is to use two or more hard DRIVES in my system. There is an option in the BIOS to select either drive to boot after the memory test has completed.

The prices for hard disk drives have come down a lot, and for the operating system you don't really need much more than about 20 GB anyway. Programs and data can be stored on another partition on another hard disk drive.

Ignore the above post, if you wish. I don't BELIEVE he knows what he is offering negative remarks for.

as for GPT, I cannot say I've ever used it. Speaking generally one powerful Partition utility you could try would be something like Easeus Partition Manager which I believe provides a method with which to burn a disk and deal with the specifics after booting to the disk. In your case I guess all you really need is a way to shrink a partition, which that tool provides. (in fact, you could also use GPARTED to resize a partition). Then do your copy, and reinitialize the entire disk using OSX setup (although I must admit to having never seen the OSX setup, I would hope it provides at least some advanced capabilities whereby you can delete existing partitions.

More to the point, however, is the question of why you need a GPT?

You note in your first paragraph:

Quote

I am installing OSX on my hard drive, which already has windows installed (I won't go into details, but yes I know that it isn't possible under "normal" circumstances to install OS X on a non-MAC computer. I will say as much that I have purchased a legal, valid copy of OSX, however).
You are right, it's not normally possible. It is very difficult but certainly doable. However the question wouldn't be one of wether the copy of  OSX is legal, but wether you are using it legally, (as in, following the OSX terms of use); As noted in the Apple EULA:

Quote
Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so.

Your stated goal certainly conflicts with the bolded section.

However, all that said, your question is more directly simply asking for a recommendation for a partition manager software, and  it would be silly to refuse to provide a recommendation based solely on my interpretation of your stated intentions.

Regarding your second question: I haven't a clue wether you can copy a MBR partition to a GPT partition- or, to be more precise, wether Easeus provides the ability to do so. If I was undertaking something like this, I would probably go into it assuming that it can and deal with anything that comes up; no doubt there are in fact tools that can be used to copy a MBR partition to a GPT partition but perhaps by clouded understanding of exactly the difference (is GPT just the partition table itself or does it dictate differences in the actual partition data type of thing).Thank you for your answer BC_Programmer;

Thinking about, you are correct. I am going to try it and deal with any issues that arise. If its completely incompatable by design, then I will simply erase and use EASUS to move the hard drive as it was originally.

As far as your question regarding why I need GPT; It is necesary to install OS X.

Everybody should read this:

Is it on your iPod?
All your purchases will transfer to your computer from your iPod if they have been accidentally deleted.

Sometimes the iTunes store help will let you re-download the music, but they only KEEP your purchase history for (a year I think?) a certain amount of time.

If all else fails, they have been offering "music upgrades" and if you had purchased an older song that was released in a higher quality format, they let you download it at a reduced price.

Yeah, I hate when I run into spiderwebs as well. I distinctly RECALL one instance where I Was yelling at my Aunt Martha for hiring the Santa Stripper, and I turned around and walked right into a spiderweb! I was mostly surprised since I had just walked in that way. We later discovered it was actually a genetically engineered super spider that was able to freeze time as it constructed it's web. This also explained why we discovered 70 thousand spider egg SACS in the crawlspace. As well as those mysterious bites that seem to simply APPEAR out of nowhere. But, despite the excitement of the moment, I didn't lose track of the topic: that is, I continued to argue about how SILLY it is to get a fat bearded man to strip for you at a bachelorette party. Of course not being a woman she just pulled the "you don't understand, It's Santa Claus" card, just like all my girlfriends did. (well, except for that one, that pulled the "I'm a Mac, you're a PC, our disks aren't compatible" and I said "BUT WE CAN BUY CONVERTERS!" or something. Then I trailed off and muttered something about teaching elves to tapdance, which was only coincidentally related to the much latter discussion involving Santa and stripping.

So now you're saying you're sexually attracted to a iPhones? You seem to have a love/hate relationship there. Also you're quite disturbed. Actually, you quite remind me of my fictitious estranged Great-Uncle Remulous, who was actually an Alien from a Planet where they created star ships out of Nestea bottles. Anyway, related to that piece of information he at some point purchased a bottle of Nestea and placed it on his table and sat there. And started at it for hours. We tried to hold an intervention but it was no use. We later discovered that his kind actually go into a 4 year hibernation every 40 or so years, would have been nice to be warned ahead of time. I translate this as "then I  got it, original and new- I doubted it at first, now I sell them for Christmas"

So the question becomes, who is this "Christmas" fellow for whom you sell? He sounds rather mysterious. I'd stay away from him. or her. Or it, or perhaps them, which raises the question, of wether they are in fact VOICES in your head telling you sell them telling you to "do it for christmas". Solve : Video clips .MOV files?

Answer» HELLO guys.

Firmware 3.1.3

I am just researching some information on how to put video taken by a camera or phone onto my ipod.
I know they have to be in MP4 file format, but the video clips i have are .MOV file format.

But how do you go about actually putting them on.
(ie. would this method work.

Quote
Move your videos to iTunes. If the videos were downloaded directly from the iTunes store, skip this step as it has been done for you. If this is not the case, you will NEED to put all of the videos in a single folder (it is most convenient to put this folder on the desktop.) Once all your videos are together, open iTunes and select the "Add file to iTunes" command to import the videos from your folder to the iTunes program

Convert to MPEG-4. videos, Popular video formats like AVI and WMV will need to be converted using the MPEG-4 format using the iTunes program before they will be compatible with your iPod Touch. Simply select the videos you need to convert with a single click. Then right-click to pull up the iTunes sub-menu. From there click once on the convert option to begin the process. You can also drag the files into the iTunes conversion queue, which is on the right side of iTunes

Sync the videos with your iPod Touch. Simply plug your iPod Touch into your computer's USB PORT and wait for iTunes to recognize it. Then drag the video files you wish to have on your device over the iPod icon. The icon will change to a "syncing" status, and you will need to wait a few minutes for the process to complete. You can now eject the iPod and watch your videos on the go.
U need a video converter to help u transcode mov to mp4 for iPod. And I ALWAYS use this [ad removed] to convert other video formats to mp4 for playback on my iPod. It works for me great. U can have a try.

Good luck

Solve : Itunes store hangs?

Answer»

Guys

I hope somebody out there can help! Since I updated to itunes 9.0 I've not been able to access the itunes store through the itunes program. The usual store page doesn't open.

My laptop on the same network is fine running itunes 9

I can get partial access to parts of the itunes site but not by clicking "itunes store" under the "store" menu on the far left.

But, if I click on the "my account" button under the "store" on the top line I can access and alter my details.

If I then click e.g. "staff favourites" from the drop down "Podcasts" menu from the menu line above "Apple Account Information" it appears. I can download the podcasts available. In fact all of the drop down submenus take me to the relevant page!? (Except most of the TV, Films and Music menus)

Also although I can see the pages I can't click on them or download them.

During testing I did get a "network timed out" error for one of the other menu links.

Didn't work with the MSCONFIG test which turned off the startup programs.

My questions are:

1)   I use windows and itunes diagnostics says that I am connecting ok and windows firewall is configured OK, so assume it isn't that. My router has it's firewall OFF, and I have uninstalled Spybot.
2)   If this was a PORT issue, would I be able to get account info and partial functionality, wouldn't it just hang for all of it?
3)   Same question but RELATING to blocking an itune site, although I have done the "host" file fix and it didn't work, but I assume all functions wouldn't be available like in (2)?
4)   As the previous version worked, if there was a port/firewall issue surely that would have shown up in version 8.2?

Excuse the description above, I've lifted it from an e-mail to Apple support. I THINK they feel, probably correctly itis an issuewith my PC, although there do seem to be others with the same problem. I used to have Zonelaarm firewall, and later Comodo, but i've long since removed them and now use Windows firewall and AVG 9 Free. Ihad spybot on but took it off in case it was causing the issue. It wouldn't make sense really as as I said itunes 8.2 worked fine.

I've tried all of the suggesrions on the apple support pages!

My question is can I run something to show me what itunes is waiting for and so hanging. A bit of me is thinking of a full reinstall if Vista!!

I'd suggest posting in the apple support forum.I tried support but as they seemed to think the problem lay outside of itunes I'm trying an alternative route.I didn't say Apple Support - I said their support forum. It's worth a shot. The support forum already has the question raised but with no answer that helps my problem. As their upper LEVEL technical can't help I assume it isn't itunes but something external hence my request for help. This problem happened to me, well, actually my daughter.  IT was the parental controls.  I turned it off for my daughter, and PRESTO! - no more problem.  As soon as the parental controls were turned off for her, she could access itunes store instantly, and iTunes never hung up again!  I hope this works for you.  It was very frustrating until I figured it out!  Pass the word on in other foums!  NOTE:  once you turn off the parental controls, you need to log out and BACK in for that user before the changes take effect.

Good luck!

Solve : strange and annoying printing problem?

Answer»

I was asked to get a student's dept of education laptop printing in the classroom. No problem, joined the laptop to the school network, added the PRINTER and thought I was done. Printed out a page of his homework and what I got was a thumbnail sized copy in the top left-hand corner of the page.

I checked the settings and it is set to print 100%, the printer settings are fine and no other computers in the room print that small. The margins are set at 1" all around, and print preview shows the text covering the full page.

How can I get the printing to be full sized, this is a special needs kid and he needs this as soon as possible.

Thanks,

laptop - Macbook
printer - Lexmark E342n
prints to - printer's IP address
using - Word for MacYou did not say if the other laptops are also Mac Books.  If there were, you WOULD have USED of of them -Right?
Is the local network an Apple-based network?
You say it prints to the IP address of the printer. Please explain. How was the printer installed on the Apple Mac Book?
The school is 99 percent pc and the other computers in the room are pc desktops. Other laptops that have been set to print to rooms, even other Macs, do not have this problem.

The network is pc with Macs provided to teachers that requested them. The laptop in question was provided by the Dept of Ed and has the standard image for that model.

I installed the printer by going to system preferences-printers and clicking on the +. The drivers were already included in the os so I just had to input where to print. I used the ip address of the printer since it is static and since the wireless network is instructional the student will be able print from anywhere in the school.

OK, Now I understand what you are doing.
What you are doing is what you are supposed to do. However, in some cases, as you found, an Mac can not print to a network printer over wireless . This is documented on some Apple forums. (IP is not enough. Read on.)
To print the one document you could use a thumb drive to transfer it to another computer, PC. Likely you have already done that . Now you want a permanent solution the student can always use.
Frankly, I am not qualified to find the solution. Of course, the Mac will print directly to the Lexmark E342n using a USB cable. Is that right?

Here is a item that maybe relevant to your problem.
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8299639
Topic : Lexmark Wireless X4550 printer wouldnt work with Airport EXTREME Network

Here is a detail found in that link.  It is not enough to have just the IP.
Example:
Device URL: lexnet3://192.168.5.110:1
You will have to read down through nit to find that detail.

Printing the one document is not important, printing in general is. The printer does have a usb port but since the student has classes in different rooms using a cable to print is not an option. The printer is not wireless, it is connected to a switch in his homeroom, along with two pc desktops. I think the solutions in your link are for wireless printers.

Other documentation indicates that the problem is even when the printer is wired. It is the laptop that has an issue. You can not just use the IP of the printer.

EDIT: This problem has been around for awhile. It may not the fault of the printer so much as it is hard to find how to install it. People report this issue with other makes of network printers, even direct Ethernet.

This is how my wireless network is now set up. Both my macbook and my PC are wirelessly connected to my D-Link WBR-1310 router (originally the PC was wired). I have an HP Officejet 5610 printer connected to my PC. So how do I set up my Macbook for wireless printing via my PC?
Quote
Exactly the same situation except with hp psc 2110 printer. Works fine with USB, but only garbage through network. Apple Support was absolutely no help, tried anything to get me off the phone. Blamed router and/or printer & told me to call Lynksys or HP. Seems to be a common problem. I've had the Mac less than a week & wondering what I got into.
And there are lots more like that...found in Google search.
Well that is great, could you provide the links that had those quotes so I can read through them? Anyone else have any knowledge of this or even better a way to solve it?

ThanksLost the links, but some are found on Apple support.
Do a Google on:

The most relevant?

The question is wrong so the answers are wrong.

I tried "macbook not printing full size" and have a possible answer. The Comments may be turned on and they should be turned off. When the kid brings in the laptop again I will test and let you know.

The solution raises even more questions, but I refuse to ask them.

Got the laptop and went through all the solutions I had in hand from here and other places, nothing worked. Then I made the test page I was printing TWO pages and then came up thumbnail size on the same page.

DING DING

I checked the settings in the printer and it was set to print 16 to a page. Now the kicker, it only printed that way from the Mac laptop and not the pc desktops. I changed it back to 1 to a page and now the laptop works like all the rest.

Stick a fork in this one...Thanks for sharing.
This will make a food example of 'tis not what you think tis'.

No, I haven't contacted the store yet because I have a one to one session this next weekend (I guess I can wait until then).  ANd, yes I have tried just hitting Enter but that doesn't work.

I finally changed my admin password.  Just had to place install disc of OS and hit the 'C' BUTTON to boot from disc.  Then it ASKS for language preference and from there I WENT to menu bar under Utilities where there is a 're-set password' option.  but now I have another problem.  See my next post.

I am trying to sync my photos to my iphone. In itunes, I am able to check the box to sync, then check to sync a particular folder. After that I have tried clicking on Apply AND File>Sync iphone and then the photo box will GRAY out and the photos will not sync. I have tried different USB ports.
Appreciate your early reply!
It is not a USB problem.
First u reinstall ur PC SUIT software then try it.
I sure it will workI have encountered a similar problem about iPhone backup before.
1.Copy all pictures from your current NTFS formatted drive C:\Documents\Pictures to F:\Pictures (or to a DIRECTORY of your choice)
2.Open iTunes and select the new folder that you want to use to sync photos to your iPhone – F:\Pictures
3.Sync your iPhone and everything should work smoothly.
And i share you a column about iPhone Transfer. This has worked perfectly for me everytime I've tried it.
Hope it can do you a FAVOR.

Solve : To Mac or not to Mac??

Answer»

Hello everyone,
I'm seriously considering purchasing the latest Mac desktop.  I walked into an Apple store today to get my son's itouch looked at (ear jack not working) and started looking around. I was totally impressed by the latest desktop.  I've been a PC person but, lately, I've been very frustrated with the multi media aspect of my computer (won't print photo files to a CD, among other things).  Is it true that the Mac's don't really require anit-virus SOFTWARE? Has anyone ever regretted purchasing a Mac?  BTW, the staff at the store were super nice and FIXED my son's itouch.  I like the one on one aspect of support at the store.
THanks.I wouldn't say that Mac's don't benefit from a Anti-Virus, but most viruses are targeted at the windows operating system these days. For a while though Macs have been based on Intel processors, so I think it might be possible some might make "cross-platform" viruses. Personally if I had a mac I wouldn't install an AV on it.

I don't have a Mac myself but I haven't heard any "regret" stories (well, not counting perhaps maybe if they really couldn't afford it, macs are generally more expensive then PCs).

Our resident Mac Guru Socrates will hopefully be able to flesh out anything I miss or correct me if I give any false information. I'm not 100% on their policies, but I believe they have excellent support policies with their products, so if you do have a problem with the mac they'll be glad to help.

I have to agree with the agree-ability of the personnel in mac stores, they actually try to sell you what you need, from what I hear, rather then, say, best buy, where I've heard people getting coerced into buying printers because the "computer won't work without one".

Personally I'm a PC person, I haven't had any issues with them that I couldn't resolve. But unlike many other PC users I'm quite open-minded to the Macintosh. it's definitely an elegant system. Personally I simply don't have a deep enough wallet  for it and  really like to tinker with the insides of my PCs to add and REMOVE functionality.

Thanks, BC.

BC makes a good comment about antivirus- it's not that macs can't get a virus, it's just really rare.

I've been using macs now for 5 years and I haven't used antivirus at all.  I also have had no problems with spyware or malware.

I think the bottom line is that in the future antivirus may be necessary, but for 99% of mac users, you don't have to worry about a virus today.

That being said, I used to work at an Apple Store doing the "one-to-one" training, and it is definitely worth it's money.  For $99 (you have to buy it when you get a mac, now) they give you one hour training sessions every week for a year.  It beats the heck outta any class or other training you can get, quality and price wise.

Apple has been rated #1 in customer support as well, and I can tell you from being a PC guy switching to Mac, it's a very enjoyable and easy switch.

Another plus is that the Apple Employees do not get paid on commission, so if you go into the store and ask them what to buy, they will help you find something that best suits your needs.

Macs now can even run windows, so if you have an odd program here or there that needs to be run on windows, you can install windows on your mac and run that application (though you need to purchase or have a copy of Windows to install).

If you have any more questions I'd be glad to answer them.  Being a switcher myself I can tell you with full honesty that the leap to Mac is worth it.  I used to hate macs up until 5 years ago (when I finally caved and decided to give OS X a try).

Cheers!Thank you BC and Socrates for your responses.  I was also impressed that Apple offers $100 off per current college student at home; and I have 2! The starting price for an iMac is very reasonable - $1200 for a4GB Memory, 500 GB hard drive, and Core 2 Duo.
I also like the fact that you can bring in your PC and they'll transfer all your data into your new computer.  Can you tell I'm getting closer to purchasing one?
I'll let you know when I do; probably after Christmas.
Thanks  only thing left I see is ... make sure you got a mac version of the windows program you usually use that you're comfortable with!  Quote from: MarleneD on October 26, 2009, 10:55:44 AM

Marlene,

I think there was a bit of a miscommunication about the student discount. The discount itself you can only use for one student (for example, if you had 5 students at home, you can't have 5X the discount on one machine, but you could buy 5 machines with the same discount).

As for iMacs, the student discount is $100 off, and applecare is greatly reduced as well (which I highly recommend).  Another plus is that any apple software you want to purchase is 50% off if you buy it on Apple's website.

Let me know if you come up with any other questions. Thanks for clearing that up Socrates.  I was probably too surprised to hear clearly.  I do have a question about Microsoft Office.  I was told at the store that I had to purchase Apple's version of Microsoft office in order to open excel or word documents (maybe I misunderstood that as well). My friend says she was able to open up word and excel documents with iWorks on her iMac.  Is it possible to use microsoft outlook on an iMac?
I'll probably have a lot more questions later.
Thanks Quote from: MarleneD on October 26, 2009, 02:30:22 PM

Marlene,

The problem isn't whether it's "Apple's" version or not... the problem is that Microsoft wants to charge you for a Windows version AND an a Mac version of Office.  Back in the day, a lot of games and software was made on one disc to work on Mac or Windows.... unfortunately... that's not the case.

However,  you do have a few options.  iWork comes for free now (normally $79) on macs, and can read and edit microsoft word and excel documents.

As far as Microsoft Outlook goes, right now they make an email client called "Entourage" which is basically Microsoft's "Outlook for Mac."  However,  Microsoft is going to be releasing Microsoft Office 2010 sometime soon which will be a brand new version of Microsoft Outlook for Mac.

However, if you're like me and hate microsoft outlook, Apple includes a free (and IMHO a much better) Mail client, simply called "Mail."

You also get a program called "iCal" with your mac that functions similarly to the calendar in Microsoft Outlook on Windows.Again, thanks for your input Socrates.  So, if I want to use the mail client that iMac comes with, will I be able to easily transfer my addresss book (Outlook)?
ThanksNO, NO, NO
If you buy a MAC and use it you will:
1. Lose interest in all other PCs
2. Have fewer friends because fewer people have Macs.
3. Have lees to do, because Mass are very maintainable.
4. You will  come to this forum only once a year. Quote from: Geek-9pm on October 26, 2009, 04:49:18 PM

Thanks

Your address book is easy to transfer.  All you have to do is export it in outlook.  It should give you an option to export as a "comma seperated value" file (.CSV)

Once you have that file, your address book on the Mac will import it beautifully.  If the Apple store is transferring your data for you, I believe they'll do that as well (as long as you ask).

Actually Geek, most of my friends have Macs; I'm one of the last holdouts.  Unfortunately, we have PC's at work; so I will still have to deal with them
Socrates, I will of course ask for help at the Apple store in transfering all of my data.
I'm so excited about purchasing an iMac!
Thanks all. Quote from: MarleneD on October 27, 2009, 08:50:52 AM

I'm glad to hear you're excited.  It's a lot of fun learning some of the software that comes with it for free too (iMovie, iPhoto, and GarageBand are great applications).

I have not found a single movie editing application on Windows that's as good as iMovie, and it comes free with every mac. the  Mac's don't really require anit-virus software?it is impossible.it is just another way that they use to attract the comsumers.

Solve : old blue imac:email problem after 4 years?

Answer»

We have 2 IMACS os9: myself and my BROTHER. After about 4 years both got the same problem, that we are not able to solve. The computer itself is functioning OK, but there is a problem in the email. As I had it 3 years ago, I do not remember exactly what the error message was, but I think it mentioned that the DISK was full. As this is not the case, something else must be wrong. I think that the possibility exists that 'the directory is full'. But we do not understand which directory this is. And we would like to keep old emails.
I solved the problem by reinstalling the whole computer from the start up disk, but I think this is too radical for an error that is essentially located.
I would like to receive information from someone who experienced the same problem. I cannot FIND a clue in the problemsdatabase of Apple.  Is there someone who can help my brother? I am sure that it must be a problem that everyone has is OS9 in email.
Thanks very much, MATHILDE.For this Imac Os9 anyone a suggestion for the mail-disk error message? The computer functions otherwise without problems.

Thanks very much, Mathilde.

Solve : mac book pro help!!!!!?

Answer»

hey wondering if theres anyone out there that can help

a few days ago my MAC book pro screen just DECIDED not to come on my laptops working fine you can hear everything loading etc i think its the lsds that have gone, its getting fixed later this week but i need to get my dissertation from it so i can get it finished and handed in. IVE tried connecting it to my tv VIA a cable but still nothing. is there anyway i can get the word files needed without have to wait till its fixed?

any help would be great

cheers guys sanders So uh what exactly do you need help with?looks like you should probably just bring it into the mac store and get someone from the genius bar to assist you on how you can bring it back.  it might be costly if you don't have applecare, but they're probably the ones to help you get it up and working again.  good luckInstead of the tv connect it to an external monitor. I would just take the Hard drive out and use it in another machine, or use an external hard drive enclosure, this will allow the hard drive to ACT like an external drive.

Solve : Roaming Profile?

Answer»

Hello everyone
I am running 10.5.x on a Intel processor. Now that I have several MACS:
2 Laptops
1 Mac Mini
1 iMac
1 G5 running 10.5.x on PPC
I would like to CREATE ROAMING profiles. I have read about Directory Utility  and  Directory.  Do I have to create the Domain Controller in Directory? Then create the profiles in Directory Utility? There are lots of ARTICLES about this concerning adding profiles to Windows AD. I am STRICTLY running this in a Mac environment. Can someone clarify or have link to a good ARTICLE?
Thanks

Solve : Mac G3 Dead?

Answer»

I tried to add a HARD drive by using a power plug that was hanging down from the power supply and when I tried to boot up it acted like it was
stuck in the boot-up sequence. I think I had the jumper set wrong. So I hit the
shut down button on the keyboard then removed the hard drive. Now, it won`t turn
on-it is dead. I don`t know much about Macs so I was wondering if there is a
start up PROCEEDURE for this condition? What are the two small buttons for that
are under the MAIN start button? Any ideas? How could I have killed the computer
just by trying to install a hard drive?

Its quite possible the computer isnt dead DUE to you trying to install a hard drive, i would say the cpu is old and needs to be replaced, you might as well replace the entire laptop. i know Apple products are expensive these days, however check your local craigslist or try ebay, you may be ABLE to find a decent computer that way, just watch out for scammers.

Solve : smartzone email access?

Answer»

How can I open attachments - browser is blocking

How can I copy and send an email?Hi Barbara:

To copy and send an email, try dragging your mouse over everything you want to copy (hilite). Select the Apple (command) key and the C key simultaneously. This will ADD the highlighted text to your clipboard. Open a new mail form and position your cursor in the text box. Select the Apple (command) key and the V key simultaneously. This should PASTE the INITIALLY highlighted text into the mail form.

As an alternative, after highlighting the text to be COPIED, in your mail program go to EDIT on the toolbar, select copy in the pull down menu, open a new mail message, go back to Edit in the toolbar and select paste in the pull down menu.

Either way should do the trick.

You didn't say what type of attachment won't open. When I hightlite then go to edit, copy then to forward or new mail then to edit again and paste - the text appears in the "to" box, so the addressee and text to be forwarded are together.  With the command and C keys the text disappears and the new mail comes up without sign of the text.  What in the world am I doing wrong??
I prefer using the edit procedure that I used successfully until I started using smartzone.  So far this particular mail system is driving me crazy.

The attachments that I'm not able to open are generally simple emails from friends.
If the text appears in the "to" line after performing copy and paste, then you need to position your cursor in the text block of the mail form. If the text is appearing in the To box it's because that's where you last had your cursor. Cut,  before pasting, position your cursor in the text box, then paste.

Solve : Zoom for front facing camera on iPod Touch 4G/iPhone 4??

Answer»

I got an iPod Touch 4G a few months ago, and, as most of you probably know, it has 2 cameras: a FRONT facing camera for FaceTime, and a back facing camera for just about everything else. Anyone who has the newest iPod or iPhone knows that only the back facing camera has zoom. One day, I was playing with the settings on my iPod, and i turned VoiceOver on (built-in narration feature for the visually impaired). Then, I went into the camera app. There was a zoom slider on the FRONT FACING CAMERA. I slid it, and it zoomed. As soon as I disabled VoiceOver, the zoom slider disappeared. Of course, zoom on the front facing camera is ABSOLUTELY pointless due to the poor quality of the camera, but I just found it interesting that it could be done. I have been looking around to see if anyone else figured it out, and i can't seem to find anything online. Has anyone else ever NOTICED this, or is this the first time this has ever been heard of?There should be a zoom feature have you tried tapping where the zoom tab usually is or does it just focus? and what iOS are you running?
because on my iPhone 3G there is no focus feature but when i tap anywhere i get the zoom tab. There is zoom on the back camera. If you tap the SCREEN, the zoom slider shows up. However, on the front slider, there is usually no slider. You can tap the screen to focus, but the zoom just isn't there.there should be an option somewhere in general settings like Accessability Actually on my ipod 4g i just press the camera screen a couple of times really quick and zoom comes its a little QUICKER rather than going through the process above.. Quote from: techiee on July 23, 2011, 05:37:20 PM

But that's only on the back camera, right? My front camera doesn't get the zoom bar when i tap the screen.
