Well I tried playing a song, but message came up saying that "apple APPLICATIONS Support was not FOUND. Apple Application Support is required to to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2 (WINDOWS error 2)". I tried out using the iTunesetup again and it gave me options of repairing it or REMOVING it. I tried repairing it but after everything was done and I tested it out, but once again it said "{Applications support not found blah blah blah." I have windowsXp. What should i do to fix this problem?thnx

So my iPod has been synced to our DESKTOP, and I have bought some MUSIC from my ipod that is not on the desktop. But now i have a new computer and i WANT my music from my ipod, not the desktop, on the itunes on the new computer, but transfer purchases isn't WORKING. So.. is there a way to transfer from the ipod on to the new itunes Or can someone at the genius bar do that for me

On occasion when using the scroll feature I get that dreaded spinning wheel. The only option I have at that time is to POWER the computer down and wait at LEAST 15 minutes. If I reboot sooner the monitor will not COME back on. I suspect a video card issue but looking for POSSIBLE causes and SOLUTIONS. Thanks in advance. My friend is a PC user and very often I see him defragmenting his hard drive. When I questioned him, he replied that it increases his system's speed.

I also planned to defrag my Mac. But there was no such inbuilt application to defrag Mac. So I used Stellar Drive defrag . Although my Mac HDD (Mac OSX 10.6) defragmntation is complete but didn't see any remarkable increase in performance.

I forgot to mention that if you are using a SSD (Solid State Drive), then you never need to defrag no matter what the operating system is. If you ever plan on upgrading you should get one. The price for capacity isn't very good yet. In a year or two. . .

The status of my disk was really very bad and it was fragmented very badly.

After defragmenting the entire disk , my Mac performance raised by 8%. So, I think , it was an intelligent investment.

I have an emac from a yardsale, it's running slowly. I understand its a very OLD model but I was THINKING about restoring the factory settings to free up space. Yesterday, 25 DAYS after the Mac Defender malware began to appear in the wild, Apple finally responded. In a technical support note, “How to avoid or remove Mac Defender malware” the company posted instructions for users to follow if they’ve encountered this malware specimen in the wild. It also promised a security update to remove infections automatically.

File that memo under, “Too little, too late.”

Within 12 hours of Apple’s announcement, the author of the original Mac Defender PROGRAM had a new variant available that renders key portions of the current Mac Defender prevention plan obsolete.

A security researcher for Intego, the Mac-centric security company that identified the original Mac Defender, found the first example of this new CODE via a poisoned Google search very early this morning.

Several factors make this specimen different. For starters, it has a new name: MacGuard. That’s not surprising, given that the original program already had at least three names. But this one is divided into two separate parts.

The first part, a downloader program, installs in the user’s Applications folder. If you’re an administrator on your Mac (and most people are, given that the overwhelming majority of Macs have only one user and the default account in that scenario is an administrator), the installer will open automatically. All you have to do is click Continue to begin the installation.

Unlike the previous variants of this fake antivirus, no administrator’s password is required to install this program. Since any user with an administrator’s account – the default if there is just one user on a Mac – can install software in the Applications folder, a password is not needed. This package installs an application – the downloader – named avRunner, which then launches automatically. At the same time, the installation package deletes itself from the user’s Mac, so no traces of the original installer are left behind.

The downloader portion then installs the second part, which is similar to the original Mac Defender.

The new architecture seems to be a specific response to Apple’s instructions in the Mac Defender security note: “In some cases, your browser may automatically download and launch the installer for this malicious software. If this happens, cancel the installation process; do not enter your administrator password.”

In this new variation, no password is required as long as you’re logged in using an administrator account. That might lull a potential victim into thinking they’re safe.

I know a lot of Apple users who breathed a sigh of relief yesterday, thinking that Apple’s belated response finally means that the problem is over. As any computer security researcher will tell you, this arms war is just getting started.

Apple appears to be treating this outbreak as if it were a single incident that won’t be repeated. They seriously underestimate the bad guys, who are not idiots. Peter James, an Intego spokeperson, told me his company’s analysts were “impressed by the quality of the original version.” The quick response to Apple’s move suggests they are capable of churning out new releases at Internet speeds, adapting their software and their tactics as their target—Apple—tries to put up new roadblocks.

If Apple plans to play Whack-a-Mole with these guys, they’re in for months of misery. Just ask any Windows security EXPERT who was around in 2003 and 2004 when Microsoft was learning a similar painful lesson. I finally GOT one of those Imac g3s! anyway IM new to the PowerPc CPUs and i just have a few QUESTIONS. I recieved with this computer the Mac OSX 10.2 disks so im reinstalling right now to get a fresh install. My questions are:

From Mac OSX 10.2, is it possible to still run the computer in Os 9.2. I have some classic games i want to run and was thinking of dual boot 10. with 9.2. There was a vid on utube showing it so i know its possible.

second-I heard a rumor that if u intall 10.3 it updates the firmware making it impossible to downgrade to  OS 9.2. Is that true? I have a power mac g3 beige running OS 9.2 but i want to sell and just keep this one.

I know that deleting unused data form your hard drive create FREE space and hence help the applications run efficiently. But, when we use applications (like Stellar SPEED up MAC) to delete unnecessary files ( cache, binary files, LANGUAGE files, duplicate files etc;) , they also delete cache from our Mac.

But some cache are NECESSARY for fast performance of our Mac. Can we save the important cache and how?

Today, Apple made some of the most stupid changes I have ever seen in the store.  First off, Mac OS X Lion released today. Ok everything is fine I guess... WRONG. One thing I don't agree on is the fact that you cant buy it on CD. Lets say you hard DRIVE fails. You replace it your self and then you are STUCK with installing 10.6 and then upgrading that to 10.7.  Apple also made some changes to there products. For $999 dollars you can get a rich man's netbook (Macbook Air).  No more white plastic macbooks . The specs on the new Macbook air are just BAD if you ask me. But I guess if you are looking for something that small, its worth it. There is also a new mac mini for $599, no CD drive anymore. I don't care how great you make your product look.  They are overpriced! Oh well. Quote

[recovering disk space - OLD attachment deleted by admin]Mac OS X doesn't work in VMware on Windows without some heavy HACKING (Boot Loaders, custom kernals, and feature modifications). You'll have to check with the OSX86 and Hackintosh groups in order to do that. We can't help much here with that. Yeah, OSX will only work with certain hardware and modifications. Unfortunately you can't just dual boot like you would on with Linux.

Be careful to read up on the T&C of Apple's OSX as it is kinda a grey area. A lot of people this it's illegal to install OSX on a non-apple machine, but I'm not 100% - that's if that kinda thing concerns you.

I am using an iMac and A Canon MP810 Printer, which has been WORKING fine. Just recently the CD Printer function does not work the tray with the CD or DVD moves into the printer ok when the print button is pressed, however the tray comes out again without PRINTING the disk. I am using CD Label Print a program by Canon. I did work before but now it has decided not to. hey every mac image i've been using keeps freezing during the boot before the setup process appears. its either frozen at a certain point in the verbose boot to setup and on another image its stuck on the apple logo and pin wheel before setup what is the problem???

Did they used to work on Vista?just as the VM is starting, press F8. It should give you a boot: prompt. type "-v " here (without the quotes) should put the boot process into verbose mode, so you can  get a bit more info on what goes wrong when it starts.here is a screen shot of where it freezes in verbose, in reg boot it just shows the apple logo and the spinning pinwheel

I used a similar OS X 10.6.4 image a while ago, but it only worked in VMWare Workstation 7.1.4. I SEE you are trying to boot with VIRTUALBOX in "Mac OS X SERVER mode." trying to boot snow leopard fails because of the kernel drivers that are required. You may have read about kexts, which are similar to "Drivers" in windows.

Basically I'm wanting to associate my iPhone with a different computer now. It was CONNECTED to my laptop but that has sine BECOME unreliable and as such, would like it paired with my desktop. I've done some research but cant get a deiffinitive answer. If I 'Erase and Sync' will I loose everything? From what I understand it erases pictures (which ive backed up) and music. Am I correct in saying nothing else will be lost, ie Messages, Whatsapp, Contacts ETC

ChrisErase and sync will erase your applications, application data, songs, movies photo album photos(not the camera roll). messages, phonebook, alarm clock, etc. will not be erased.

Uhhh... I remember when I spent 5 hours straight figuring out how to do so with my mom's iPhone... As far as I know, there is no easy way to do this without jailbreaking and/or manually entering the contacts into your computer. There is a jailbroken app called iSim that will allow you to do that, but I do not guarantee it will work without issues as jailbroken apps are not officially supported by Apple.

I have recently downloaded iTunes on my PC which is on XP.
When i open it up it tells me that iTunes is not the default player and would i like to make it the default player for all audio files. When i GO to click ''yes'' then it says that it could not update the audio files as i do not have access privileges. I am doing this whilst being logged on as the administrator.

6.Select the songs you want to copy to your Mac.
7.Click the Copy button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Senuti will move the music from the iPod to your Mac.

I WOULD like to transfer my recordings and music from my IPHONE 3Gs to my Windows 7 computer.
I have tried many websites on google, but I keep hitting the same problem.
Every website tells me to select 'Show hidden files, drives and folders'. When I do this (and Apply), nothing CHANGES for me.
When I go to My Computer and click on iPhone (with 'Digital Camera' in grey letters under that), I only see a folder CALLED 'Internal STORAGE'. And after that 'DCIM' and after that '800AAAAA'.
And after that, all I get to see are my photos and videos.
What am I doing wrong?

You could run the script as a task from ICAL (like a cron job).


You can set empty/null password and use passwd command to expire password. This will result into immediate password change for the first time.

For example you just need to type following two commands:
# usermod -p "" username
# chage -d 0 username

I recently GOT SAFARI on my PC (Windows) and I am unable to sync it.

I wanted it synced so the bookmarks on my PC are on my phone/pod browser and so that if I add something to my reading list be it on phone/pod/pc I can READ it on all devices.

Have any of you had this problem and do you know a way to sync safari to all devices and vice verca?

I assume you can sync without having to go into itunes every single time. You have to go into iTunes to sync your iPhone...

What you're looking for is an emulator for iPad. There is one available as part of an SDK, but it will only allow you to use your apps on a mac.

(Or click the apple SYMBOL and click Mac App Store.) Then search for your app and see if the app you wanted is there.  PLEASE NOTE: This only works on Mac.  If you have a PC, try to Google "Mac App Store download for Windows"

I am trying to transfer or COPY photos from my IPHONE 4 to pc.
I have two folders in my phone.
One with photos taken with same iphone called camera roll and another one with  photos I put in the iphone from pc called photo library.

When i plug in my iphone I can go through autorun (dcmi...blah) but guess what? When i get to the folder with the actual photos i can only see the ones in camera roll and none of the ones in photo library.
I can't even see the folder "photo library"!!!

My pc is an HP mini 210-2000 with original w7 starter
My iphone 4 (4.3.5 (8L1)

Why the *censored* are these photos in the photo library invisible...?

well what i do is when autorun comes up i click import photos using Windows, try using the import feature in autorun and see if that works....forgot to mention, already tried the import option of pc's autorun. It doesn't work can you see your iPhone on my computer? if so open it and look in Internal storage in the DCIM folder and look for a folder with allot of numbers and letters (e.g. A08000000010) or something LIKE that your photos should be in there but if all else fails you can try ifunbox from the internet to find themThanks to all of you, problem solved, a friend of a friend ( owns an it shop) had a PROGRAM specifically designed to export stuff from iphones without using itunes. I've been trying to figure out how to TRANSFER the music from my ipod to my computer as i just got a new one. The old Ipod is a generation 2 Ipod touch, and i just got new iTouch

Not SURE if this is the right spot for this POST.  I'm trying to TRANSFER my itunes library from my ipod touch back onto my pc laptop.  Ran across a site that offers free download of software to do just that.  Was wondering if it was safe.

Oh well.This is not possible to do manualy unless your ipod touch has had the "jailbreak" crack applied, it has to do with the way the ipod touch comunicates with the pc/mac, so 3rd party transfer software will be the only way.

I have a dual core 2.66 machine with a Apple Cinema display. This started a few months ago and keeps getting worse. At times when using the scroll wheel on the mouse the machine would just hang with the little colored circle spinning away. The only way to correct this was to unplug the machine and let it sit for SEVERAL minutes before turning it back on. Now at times when using the mouse scroll wheel the SCREEN just turns blank and the same fix is required. I'm not up on electronic parts but is it possible the video card is going bad as it appears something is over HEATING thus the reason I need to wait for a while before restarting.? Any suggestions on what to do will be greatly appreciated. BTW It's out of warranty by a year or so now. Thanks in advance.It would be worth getting it checked to see if this is one of the MBPs that is covered under Apples repair extension program for failing graphics. They will cover the cost of the repair, a NEW logic board if your computer fails the graphics processor test. I have seen a lot of these and some of the symptoms you would not think it would be the graphics. It is only covered for 4 years from its purchase date so it would be worth getting it checked

I'm confused about why my video does not transfer into imovie in chronological order (in order the event was taped).  I connected my Sony camcorder (with mini dvd) via usb port to my imac and used imovie to edit.  I wanted to burn a copy onto a regular size DVD.  Well, the video data is transfered but I THINK it's doing it in order of clip time length!  How can I make the video transfer in the order the event happend??  I've been viewing the clips and figuring out what CAME first, then ORDERING them- very frustrating, not too much time consumming!

my friend wants to update his iPod Touch 2nd Gen to IOS 5, but he did not find the the link to download and update to IOS 5. So he needs a  JAILBREAK software or jailbreak methods. I don't know of any REASON but the only reason that there is no iOS 5 update is probably because the performance would be POUR, the BATTERY would die faster, and the hardware wouldn't be able to handle it and would be bad for it, the reason the 3rd Gen has it is because it has better hardware to be able to handle the OS, if you are really desperate to get it you can try use an iOS 5 update ipsw file for the 3rd gen and use REDSN0W to update, but it most likely wont work, Im not responsible for data loss or DAMAGE.

hi all, I am having Imac desktop with safari. SUDDENLY i have discovered that Yahoo mail and yahoo pages dont get opened while i am still able to access gmail a/c and other applications.
please help not 100% on what is going on here. are you trying to access Yahoo mail through an internet explorer, or are you trying to open an app that retrieves the emails. if so, are you just trying to open this app, or are you trying to get it to open on start upOn a Mac, a website can be blocked with parental controls, or for sites like yahoo - if java is turned off in the settings. Without an error message or SOMETHING to point to an issue, it could be any NUMBER of issues.

If you can provide an error, that MAY be helpful. Their web server may temporarily down as well. Can you access the yahoo EMAIL inbox now?

How can i play Mp4 movies on my IPAD2? I am sick of purchasing programs that say they do this easily only to never work or are to complicated. I just purchased a G4 iBook with OS 10.4.11 that came from a high school. It won't allow me to UPGRADE the OS, see more info in "about this mac" or enter system preferences. It seems to be a scholastic version of the OS or MAYBE parental controls are SIMPLY enabled. A menu option available I've never seen before is "Student Logout". When I select this it requires a username and PASSWORD. Neither the SELLER nor the school admin will give me any answers. When I Firewire it to my other mac with disk utility the HD doesn't show up. Any clue how can I wipe this HD and reinstall a fresh OS?   These links may help:

hi guys.
im using a 25'' led external display with my 2006 mbp 1.1.
i am connecting through dvi - hdmi through an adaptor. this works pretty well, but there is one problem. it happens when a timer socket in the same room switches off. the backlight stays on, but the display goes blank for about 1 SECOND. i have noticed this also happening when i go to plug in a 3.5mm jack to some external speakers. not only does this happen while im plugging it in, but if i touch it anywhere else on the laptop also.
the first thing that came to MIND was some kind of earth problem, but i just don't know.
i am worried this will cause damage to my ex.monitor as the first one i had stopped reckognising hdmi devices and needed replacing from amazon.
do you think i am surging the display? i don't want another dead monitor to deal with.

if you think the problem lies within the laptop, then i have no qualms with dismantling as it is on its last legs anyway and probably worth less than the monitor!
im also pretty good with electronics so i should be okay.

help would be very well appreciated.

lukeIf I am reading this correctly: You have something - a lamp or fish tank - on a timer. When the timer CLICKS on/off, the Laptop display flicks off for a second?

I'm pretty sure that is a Ground Fault. I would SERIOUSLY consider having your wiring checked, and using Surge protectors/supressors on all your electronic devices. Eventually, those flicks of electricity will fry all the devices on the CIRCUIT. It also sounds like the grounding on other devices in that room are getting surged consistently - plugging in speakers to the headphone port should NEVER alter the screen.

Once again the computer gremlins are laughing at me. I have a teacher with an Imac running Snow Leopard. I updated everything using the software update function. The problem the teacher is having is he can not reply to email. He get's the messages, can read them and the links are live in the messages. But when he CLICKS on the "reply" button, nothing HAPPENS. He is using YAHOO and Outlook Web Access. We have tried using Safari and Firefox with the same results in each. Elsewhere in the building, on other Imacs there is no problem. The pc's also function as they are SUPPOSED to. I checked with the DOE HELPDESK and they are not doing anything with the mail system.

I don't know what else could be affecting the computer.

I'm working on a MACBOOK Pro with Mac OS X, version 10.6.7.  Recently, when opening a new excel worksheet or existing file, the toolbars do not appear at the top of the sheet.  I open View>Toolbars and both Standard and Formatting are checked.  I have to uncheck one, reopen View>toolbars, recheck the one I unchecked and then the space for the toolbars APPEARS without the toolbars.  Finally, when I place the cursor in that space and click, they will appear.  Each time I close and reopen a file, I have to go through the same process. 

This annoyance started recently, but I can't link it to anything that may have CAUSED it.  Any help would be appreciated.I would try repairing the permissions using disk utility that can help resolve little glitches LIKE the one you are havingI would DELETE the "com.microsoft.Excel.plist " file located in the /Users//Library/Preferences/ folder.
Then, Go to the /Users//Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office XXX/ folder and move the "Excel Toolbars" file to the desktop.

This should reset all toolbars and menus to defaults on next launch of Excel.
