I live in the UK, and a few years back ~I bought an unlocked IPHONE 3G which was going fine until recently when I upgraded its software to iOS 4.2.1, ever since it has had no reception and doesn't ACCEPT any SIM card  , it also doesn't seem to be able to be RESTORED to factory settings by neither iTunes nor from the phone itself - shortly said it SEEMS to be blocked once again... Thanksmove the iphoto library from the pictures FOLDER to the desktop and then open iphoto. It will open blank with a new library and then re import the pictures from your old library Hi,

The iphoto library is nowhere to be found. But all my photo's are still on my DRIVE, over 11000 of them. I reinstalled iphoto but it still does not open.

Thankshold down the shift and alt key when you double click the iphoto ICON this will bring up a window that should list your iphoto library currently on your machine and if you highlight it it will TELL you where it is stored. It will ALSO give you the option to create a new iphoto library If you create a new one it should open iphoto but there will be no pictures in there yet. Now reimport the pictures.

You also have the option to start iphoto while holding down the command and alt key this will bring up a different window which will give the option examine and repair iphoto library file permissions or you can select to repair the iphoto library database

Either of the above may work for you. Even though you have reinstalled iphoto it will still look for the previous library so it maybe a better idea to start with creating a new one

How can I import .pst files (from a PC) into my iMac?  I just bought a Mac and the store imported my ADDRESS book but, didn't import my husbands.  I have his .pst files SAVED onto an external hard drive.  Do I need a SPECIFIC software to do this?  ThanksTry the Outlook2MAC software. If you can import the PST files into thunder bird you can then export as a file format that APPLE mail or entourage will recognise. I THINK if you are using the latest version of office for mac with outlook you can just import the PST file straight into itwhy are you bumping a one year old thread?

I bought an ipod about a year and FIRST registered it on my bosses iTunes library because he had around 4,500 songs.  I haven't connected my ipod to a computer since because I was told that I would loose the borrowed music.  Is there any way I can save the borrowed music to a flash drive (without USING itunes) and then re download them to my library?

I am not aware of what if any of those factors might effect you but you need to examine them. Is there a way of converting video from 8mm to dvd? I have a Sony camcorder (don't recall model # OFFHAND) and would like to hook it up to my Mac to covert video to DVD.  Can this be done USING the software (idvd) that it came with?  If so, how?  Physically, I mean.  What are the connections?  Does anyone know of a realiable link?
Thanks all!Well, you could buy a device like this: analog-to-DV converter box ( http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/Video-Capture/product1.en.html ). It's about 99$. There are cheaper ones out there, but you get what you pay for.

That's the easiest way. You plug one END to the camcorder, USB to the computer. Open the software, press play on the camcorder.. let it play through. It creates a movie file on the computer that you can use with iMovie or whatever.


I don't know much about the device and connections, but RECENTLY i have converted my 8mm hove video to DVD with the help of an online website you may also have a try.

My MACBOOK Pro was loading all PROGRAMS slowly at times. I verified & repaired permissions. I verified the DISK.  Tried to reload OS 10.6.  Install failed approximately half way through, repeatedly.  Could not eject disk. Shut down and restarted holding eject key down.  Disk ejected but now I ONLY get a manila folder with a flashing question mark in it.  What should I do?I would replace the hard drive. First, you could try to repair the drive. When you insert the OS X installer CD, at the very beginning, there is a menu called Utilities. Open that and Run Disk Utility. You may be able to repair the drive enough to reinstall the OS. Be sure not to format or ERASE the drive.

If not, You can buy an external USB drive, install OS X on that, and boot from it. Once you are in OS X, you can run any number of utilities available online to rescue data from the problem drive. At the very least, you will be able to save your data.

I have a DELL computer Vostro 3550 running WINDOWS 7. My wife's computer is a MacBook pro. Both computers have no problem connecting ONTO the internet. The router I am using is a Linksys wireless g 2.4. The problem I am having is that on my PC I do not see the MacBook yet on the MacBook my PC shows up. It WOULD be nice to transfer files from on to another but if the MacBook is not listed on my PC it makes things a bit difficult. What suggestions would anyone have for having the Mac visible on the PC.
Check to see if FILE sharing is turned on in system preferences. Also while you have file sharing selected click on the options tab and turn on Windows SMB file sharing.

Then, open up iTunes and select your iPad from the 'Devices' section on the left hand SIDE. A summary of you iPad should open up in the main WINDOW.

At the top, select the 'Photos' button. Then, check the "Sync Photos from..." box.

Once you CLICK "Choose folder" option in the drop menu, you can then select which picture folder to want to transfer onto your iPad.

Finally, click Apply at the bottom of the screen.

This R-driver III is a ide to usb adapter i am using to copy the INTERNAL hard drives image and transfer it to a bigger 2.5" HDD i will later transplant into an ibook G4. I connected the hdd through the r-driver on my PC laptop and went into DISK manager. Initialized the disk and formated it using NTFS, I went BACK into the ibook plugged the ide to usb into the ibook and still no hdd showing up. I gave it a drive letter and volume name in windows, and it has nothing in the apple. How can I get the apple to discover the hdd? Thanks!

What are the differences between a 2010 White unibody MacBook and  2008 Black polycarbonite MacBook? The 2010 Mac has a working logic board but NEEDS a SCREEN, fan, missing ram and needs all new casing (cracks and chips on top and bottom and i'm ocd about not having that).... the 2008 just needs a new logic board and has a good screen, fan and casing.... what is interchangeable between the TWO? I know I will have to buy ram and an SSD but I like them too much to just JUNK them both.... don't have much money at all to fix them so seeing what can be done if any but if not I can just part them out

A friend has had problems with a keylogger on her mac. Specifically targeting her bank accounts. Sorry I don't know the detail of her model of mac but it's likely the most recent. It's very unlikely that she installed any keylogger herself.
One tech she asked to look at her machine said to delete everything and reinitialize. I'm thinking she should not have to go that far. Yet.
At least she could first run an anti- keylogger program.
Which anti keylogger program is the BEST?
MacScan? XoftSpySE? VirusBarrier X6? None of these are specific to keyloggers. Are there any that are?

Ignore the spec list below, it's for my machine, not my friend's.My suggestion would be to wipe that system clean and start with a fresh clean rebuild to eliminate it. Then on top of that have them change the security reset info after first changing their passwords for all online sites so that they do not lose access to the accounts. If its a banking account that the access was lost from a call to local bank can place a lock on the account to ban anyone from accessing account. Monitor credit cards for any suspicious charges as well as debt cards etc.

Looking between the late 2008 ORIGINAL MacBook aluminum unibody & late 2008 MacBook PRO... which one would be the better choice? I have heard the screen on the Pro is better... My Black Macbook, I have had it for almost 2 years now, and would like to upgrade (many minor problems)

At this point it would be MUCH wiser (and cheaper in the long run) to get a slightly newer model, such as the 2011 model. While the 2008 is still a great laptop, chances are you will probably have to replace the HDD, ram and EVEN the battery. At that point, it's just cheaper to get a newer system and not worry for another 2 or so years.

I have a MacBook running OS10.5.8.
Recently I (inadvertantly) picked up a new search engine; "INBOX"  which I WOULD like GET rid of.  I contacted Inbox support and they told me that since I didn't have a PC, they couldn't help me, but suggested that I contact Apple.  Last I knew Apple wouldn't talk to me without $$$ in-hand.
Is this enough information for ANYONE to help?  Or not enough?

Rumors were GOING around that some IPADS were COMING in today... anyone got it YET?

alright, here is the story... I own a little imac G3 400 MHZ model with 320 MB 20 GB hard drive, 4x DVD ROm dual booting both mac os9 and OSX 10.2.8. I have a wireless card inside it and did a little research and found that it will not (and tried it) work with a WPA2 ENCRYPTION, all i get is a error saying my password is incorrect. So i went to my routers ip address and set the encrytion to WEP and IT WORKED!!! But what i wanted to do was set the encrytion to WEP connect it to the wifi, then set it back to WPA2 but after returning back to WPA2 its a different password and the wireless doesnt work. Any ideas? Would it be better if i set no encrytion and connected it then back to WPA2?? or what? please help me out in getting this to work correctly i love this imac lots and want to use it as my music portal, using grooveshark and youtube on it. It works fine, the Wifi is fast. im actually on this site right now with it using firefox 2 and camino 2 i believe, but using hard wired internet connection to type this. Thanks in advance. You need to review the kinds of security that lour machine can do it ought to be able to do WEPA. If it does WEP only, you are stuck. WWEP and WEPA are exclusive. The do not accommodate neath other.

In addition to this,  there is more  'jargon' that adds confusion to the acronyms.

Unless you machine was MADE over 7 years ago, it should be able to do basic WEPA. Avoid WEP.
To provide better help, the model number of the wireless card is needed  to find  the documentation.

Of COURSE, a wired network is much more secure.not sure which number is the model number, i have however taken pictures of the front and back, maybe you will know better then i will.

That is a very old Apple card. It is for 802.11b only and does WEP, not WPA.
There  is not piratical way to do better security, unless there is a firmware update.

But maybe somebody else has a good idea.
Hmm probably what i have is one of the firat models of airport cards. Since we are on the subject, what does 802.11b mean? And is there any chance it would work if i turned off encrgption connected to it then enable wpa2 again? Cause thr card was fast when i had it wep but once it went back to wpa2 nada. I am using jaguar 10.2.8 Wireless 802.11b is now a deprecated standard. Most routers  will allow a 80211.b computer to log in and use the network, unless there is a security conflict. The speed is only 11 mega bits.

My mac just froze and i couldn't do anything so I had to TURN it off using the power button, when i booted it up again i got an folder flashing with and question mark in it, from what i've read this is a SIGN that the computer cannot find a bootable hard drive. I am not that good at COMPUTERS, know some basics at windows but when it comes to mac i'm lost. I have tried booting into safemode which works, the PROBLEM is that I have not made any backup with time machine, now is there anyway to retrive the old information again? I know in windows you can just go into safemode and do a system restore but that's not quite how it works in mac i understood?? 

Read something about connecting a second mac to it in order to gather the bits and pieces of information that might be left... could this work?

Ok, once again I bring a hair puller.

In the photo class there are 5 wireless iMacs and 7 various Mac laptops, all running 10.5 or higher. There are two wide format usb printers, one attached to IMAC #3 and one to iMac #5. The printers are labeled 1400-a and 1400-b. On all of the computers PRINTER sharing is turned on. The two printers are installed on all of the computers, number 3 is WIRED to 1400-b and number 5 is wired to 1400-a, the rest are connected via sharing through number 3 and number 5.

Two weeks ago all of the computers could print to any of the printers, then one of the STUDENTS found that they could remote in to a different machine from the one they were working on. The teacher then had one of the students that was knowledgeable in Macs disable that feature. Now the computers that print through the share stall with a MESSAGE that they are looking for the printer on the sharing computer. The computers wired to the printers are fine.

I checked and printer sharing is still turned on on all of the machines, the machines are still connected to the wireless network, everything seems to work EXCEPT the shared, wireless printing.

So the questions are: What was the setting that the student changed? Is there a way to re-enable the printing while still disallowing the remote access?

My late 2010 MacBook Pro running Snow LEOPARD is giving me a kernel panic upon start-up which is what I'm assuming to be the Apple equivalency of the blue screen of death. As a temporary fix, I replaced the 500g Seagate Momentus drive with the stock drive and now I'm only getting this problem every once in a while but still, how can I fix this. The people at my local Geek Squad said I had to wipe the hard drive. I'm really hoping there's an alternative. I just changed the password on my Belkin Router. Now, however, I can not figure out how to get the new password into my Ipad2 so I can once again connect to wi-fi.

I went to SETTINGS, then Wi-Fi. (Not connected)  I do see my network on the list. (Belkin.ad2) When I tap on the actual work Belkin.ad2, I get a message that says "Unable to JOIN Belkin.ad2".

When I click on the blue arrow to the right of the network belkin.ad2, I see 3 tabs...DHCP, BootP and Static. Neither of them give me a space to type anything in such as a password.

Is there any way to backup all my SMS messages from iphone to COMPUTER?

My iMac has been running fine for about 3 years now. A great device it had been, helped me a lot with my work. But RIGHT after I updated my device to OS X 10.7.5, I cannot change the volume at all! 

When I press on the F11 or F12 button for the volume control, the volume bar shows. The volume bar is always full, but a little cross shows below the volume bar, and I cannot change the volume. Also although the sound bar is full, there is absolutely no sound at all!
I tried to change the volume in "System Setting". The is an option the change it, but it is also greyed out.
I found that some other users also got this problem when they updated to OS X 10.7.5, but I found no useful answers.

I'm looking for a good guide for developing programs for routed iphones. Either that or a good book on developing IOS apps in general. I've been using java emulators to run programs I punch out until now. The method works fine for simple programs but falls flat when trying to get into things like background task running and spring board capability. Not SURE if this should be here or under software, but sometimes my itunes will display the Japanese characters, and sometimes it WONT. I haven't FOUND any consistancy other than there is a slightly higher CHANCE if I am not connected to the internet . Any Idea why this happens or how to fix it? Thanks in advance

I PURCHASED a MAC OS X Lion last week and for some reason cannot deposit money into two online bookies. It is 27" with 2.7 ghz and 1TB.
I emptied the cache and disabled the mac firewall and block popups but I still get nowhere. There is clearly SOMETHING blocking the requests as I tried it on my old windows pc and it worked so I would be grateful if someone can ADVISE please.

Why does Photoshop Elements 9 have to be reinstalled if the program is closed or the computer restarted? Using iMac running Lion.

Computer updated, 12 other Mac computers (5 iMac and 7 laptops) have no problems, all running Snow Leopard or less.

This is for a middle school photography lab and the teacher sometimes has to reinstall 3-5 times a day due to a STUDENT closing the program instead of their photo.

Called the District help desk and they gave me APPLE customer support. Called them and the very nice lady on the other end spent 15 minutes trying to help, but did not find anything. She had two options, 1) call Adobe to see if there is an unpublished incompatibility and, 2) buy Photoshop Elements 10.

I will try calling them tomorrow, but the school year is coming to a close and I know the teacher does not have the money in her BUDGET. She just ordered a wireless print server and external hd.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I would like to know, is there any way I can convert PDF files (over 30MB, so "ePub2Go" is out) to ePub file so I can drop it off in iTunes and then read it on my IPAD 2?

Also, you may try this tutorial about how to convert PDF to ePub on iPad. Results depend entirely on the PDFs that you want to convert.

I recently updated my WIFE's iPad from 3.x to 5.x, and noticed it left about a 1GB directory of update files (*.ipsw) and logs and stuff on my WIN 7 laptop.

SURE, I'll save the logs, but is there any reason to hold on to the updaters?

I'm in Spring Cleaning mode on my hard drive!

I am on a mac and my computer SCREEN randomly turned WHITE. i had a PAGES file OPEN that got deleted when i rebooted it. Any way I can GET it back?

I'm an experienced Photoshop user, but recently a problem has developed whenever I use the clone tool or the healing tool. The entire canvas SHIFTS after I select an area to use for cloning or healing. The canvas then moves around as if I'm using the HAND tool. I'm not using LAYERS or masks, just the typical getting rid of spots from my dirty element in my camera. One INTERESTING note, when I use the spot healing tool these issues do not develop. Any THOUGHTS?

So, i have an iPod touch 3G updated to the latest iOS 4.whatever it is.

So, i had it charging on an iPod dock/clock and this morning, i noticed it failed to start up by waking it or turning on by pressing the lock button.

I plugged it into the apple wall adapter to 5v usb, and i noticed a large amount of heat from the lower corner after a couple minutes of charging, immediately after noticing this, i UNPLUGGED.

This was a FULLY functioning iPod the day before, and im curious to which part should be replaced, as i BELIEVE it was an overcharge of electricity to the ipod damaging the internal circuit.

I do have parts from a 2G ipod touch, not sure if it would be any benefit to USE these parts in a repair, but i COULD try if it is advised. You should be posting on the Apple support forums (at their site) - or even better, contact Apple support directly.

Hello All!

My question TODAY is in regards to RAM for my MACBOOK Pro.
The Specs:

MBP 13 Inch Mid 2012
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4

I was interested in putting in more RAM. I took out the TWO 2GB 1600 MHz sticks and placed in two 4GB 1067 MHz sticks.
My question is, even though the RAM count is now 8GB rather than 4GB, will it run slower/worst because the speed is now 1067 MHz instead of 1600 Mhz?

I am not too familiar with what RAM is and what kind of difference this is going to make. Please advise! I appreciate all help and responses I receive.

-DavisIt is my understanding that while you will have a slower "speed" due to the lower speed of the RAM modules (i believe the difference from what you would get if you had installed 8 gb of the 1600 mb modules will not be noticeable). I have Windows 7 installed and I tried installing the iTunes64Setup.exe.
That was the same file that I used to install it the first time and had no problem.
I'm not sure if I have 64bit or not but I see no other version at the Itunes
website.

Make sure nothing else is running while downloading and close the other programs.

Note: if you are using some super old computer, like windows 95 and windows98, it might be a little difficult to download iTunes.It's a Windows 7 thing that happens sometimes (and it frustrates the *censored* out of me). Every time you see that message during the installation you have to "take ownership" of the folder in question. The install ROUTINE will then continue and you'll get the message (and have to take ownership) several times during the process.

1. I noticed they still haven't found a way to keep an artists collection sorted by the year each cd came out. Still only in alphabetical order.

2. Is the only place to get cover art from Itunes? Itunes does have some obscure artists solo projects etc etc but they don't have anything, so far, from a band like AC/DC ? So far not one cd featuring Bon SCOTT has cover art for it.

I have 2 computers,the one is for business and the other is private.I just want to sync a calendar on one computer (business) and the music on another one (private),but everytime i try to synchronise only the calendar with itunes homesharing, it deletes all my music on my iphone.Is there any way to solve this problem???
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Generally speaking, you can only sync with 1 iTunes account/computer at a time. You can easily sync calendar over the air via google calendar, or exchange, depending on what your calendar is *in* on the desktop.
I'd explore that option.1、make sure your iphone is the latest one .if it isn’t ,then get it updated to take advantage of the latest features.
2、open iTunes on the secondary computer and connect your iphone with it .choose cancel, when a WIDOWN pops up asking for erasing and rewriting of DATA.
3、select “Manually Manage Music and Movies” option under the summary tab ,transfer music from that computer’s iTunes library to your iphone .
Once you have purchased apps, they stay purchased and you can reinstall any apps from an authorized PC, after signing in to your iTunes account. So that's how you can sync iPhone with two computers and protect your data from getting erased!

Can anyone recommend a hard drive 3.5 enclosure suitable MAC drives ? Also a docking station suitable for Mac drives that take 2.5 and 3.5 drives? OjasI am not sure about a docking station, but for the first part of your question, are you looking for an external hard drive enclosure?
Mac drives are not different than regular PC drives, but you will need to find out what kind of drive it is. There are external enclosures widely available for all kinds of drives. www.newegg.com is a great place to look, but you need to know what kind of drive it is first (e.g. SATA, ATA, IDE, &etc.)
What kind of Mac do you have? My Mac  is iMac  running snow leopard but the drive had the normal sata data and power connectors but also had an extra connection on the back it was a small the pin. I have never come across this  before. OjasMy recommendation (as i brought to the attention of forum members quite some time ago) is what i WOULD refer to as a portable interchangeable docking station. This gives you the greatest opportunity for versatility and portability for multiple hard-drives without reliance on a ONE for each solution. There are many available. Here is a link to some of them.

truenorthAny hard drives will work with iMac, for Macs, some external drives have Firewire instead or on top of USB. Firewire provides a faster transfer rate then USB2.0. Just do not get any older hard drives that still use USB 1.0. Some hard drive pre formatted to NTFS for Windows PC. So here's the thing, I accidently spilled water on my iphone 4, although it has been fixed, it still get kind of "unstable
", sometimes it just suddenly shut itself down.

Recently i was bothered by a problem.It is how can I transfer a photo album from my iPad2 to a Mac computer using Lion?  Somehow iPhoto on my Mac can't find my photo album on the iPad.  Album doesn't show up in iTunes either.

2. NAVIGATE to the Applications folder on your mac and find Utilities folder
3. Open image capture
4 you iPad should show up as a device in the list. From this app you can export your items.

To CORRECT the iPhoto recognition issue, you may have to rebuild the library.

You could use the ipad connection kit and put it straight on a card and put in computer if you dont want to sync across. plus many good APPS in the app store will do the same, but find the camera kit the quickest way as you can choose which files you want to cross over. hope this helpful.

I took the hard drive out of my old iMac. OSX 10.4  which is sata with power and data cables but on he back there was a three pin CABLE CONNECTED this the first time I have not seen this before can anyone tell what is it used for I wish to put the drive into a enclosure.  Ojas

I have two computers with iTunes. All the music from Computer 1 has been downloaded to my iPod. I would like to download all that music onto Computer 2. However, Computer 2 has newer music on it that is not on my iPod/Computer 1. I can't figure out how to GET the music from my iPod onto Computer 2 without ERASING the new music. Suggestions? Thanks.

There is a third party app CALLED Senuti (iTunes backwards) that allows you to copy files back from an iPod to the Mac.

If you bought songs on iTunes, they should be linked to your account so you can download them to your Mac for free again. But if those music on your ipod are from other computers via itunes, you may not transfer them from ipod to Mac because itunes can only transfer these fiels from itunes to your ipod touch. In that case you will need some other tools to do that.  See How to transfer or backup music from iPod to Mac  and maybe you can find something useful.
