Solve : Can't install os x on new drive? |
Answer» HELLO. I have a a 13" white macbook mid 2009. The one with the removable battery. 2 g of DDR. Few days ago a blinking folder with a question mark appeared. I could not even go to the recovery mode and the hd would make a clicking noise. So I bought a SSD drive to REPLACE the old one. The problem is the CD player on the macbook is not working anymore. Fortunately I made a couple of month ago a bootable version of mavericks on an hdd. The problem is when I old the option key it shows now 2 options ( install mavericks 10.9 and EFI boot) but when I chose to install the screen stays white and nothing happens. I'm pretty SURE the mac is compatible mavericks. Any idea on what I could do ? Thank you very MUCH |

Solve : new to Mac - please recommend a model? |
Answer» hi, I am thinking about buying a macbook for my first Mac experience. (I have never had any Apple product) The keyboard and mouse or trackpad that came with your Mac (If they aren’t available, use a USB keyboard and mouse)Current Apple PCs will also run Windows 8.1, which you can girt free for awhile. My recommendation is to use Windows 8.1 and see if you like it and forget windows 7. As to which Mac, I do not fell qualified to say. Maybe somebody else. 1. It won't damage anything but it's silly to leave it totally on when it's not doing anything, at least put it to sleep/hibernate it. What is the reason for leaving it on? 2. The base model will suffice (although spending more to get a retina display would be something to consider since it is so good). Whatever model you get, make sure you get an SSD for best performance and durability. 3. That will work fine, Apple even officially support it. It will run just as well as it does on a similarly specced PC. Bear in mind though that you will need to pay for a copy of Windows, this is around $100. 4. It will work fine, however it it is formatted as NTFS you will either need to format it to something else (erasing everything on the drive) or install special drivers to let you write to the drive. Good advice. But point #2 needs to be expanded. You gain sped at a greater cost and less archive space. Quote How much faster is an SSD compared with HDD drives and is it worth the price?http://www.diffen.com/difference/HDD_vs_SSD What it means is you still have to go buy a HDD anyway if you want more than few gigs of storage. Also, you can optimize a HDD for better speed on a group of files and programs. Of course, never equal to a SSD. Quote from: Geek-9pm on January 30, 2015, 03:16:17 PM First of all, you can run Windows 7 on a Mac book. With some limitations. hi, with some limitation with windows 7? So is it an emulation on a macbook if I want to run a windows environment sometimes? I am worried that I cannot escape from windows very quickly. girt free for a while? what do you mean? I have a retail license for windows 7 home premium, I'd like to know if it can be used with a macbook?? Quote from: remember2010 on January 31, 2015, 02:42:42 AM hi, with some limitation with windows 7? So is it an emulation on a macbook if I want to run a windows environment sometimes? I am worried that I cannot escape from windows very quickly. and which macbook / or macbook pro have SSD inside? It LOOKS like there is no such term - SSD - on Apple stores. btw, is it a good idea getting a refurbished one?? better hardware for lower price? Is there many negative comments in the Mac-user-world about refurbished macbook?? Thank you.!!Myself, I like the idea of getting refurbished equipment. But that is a personal thing. Many Mac owners have pride in having the newest model. If the machine was rebuilt to Apple specs and if it has a warranty, it may be a good value. The Enterprise edition of Windows 8.1 is now available for evaluation from Microsoft. You have 90 days to decide if it is right for you. Did not mean to scare you with my remark about limitations of running Windows 7. Microsoft is going to short change the support for Windows 7. And to get the most from Windows 7 you would run the 64 bit version, which means the old DOS games with not run or only with some emulation. This is true of Apple and PC machines. The 64 bit system does not run native 16 bit code. This has been discussed elsewhere extensively. Here is what they say on Ypm's Hardware. As I mentioned, it is not a n Apple issue, it is a 64 bit issues common to 64 bits OS. Very old MS0DOS games require emulators. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/7161-63-game-windows Of course, this also applies to Windows 8.1 as FAR as I know. And I doubt MS will ever change that. There already are free emulators out there for MS-DOS. There is a similar issue with old programs that do direct hardware READING. In particular games that want to go directly to the sound card. Again., that is true for both Apple and PC machines running current versions of Windows. Quote from: remember2010 on January 31, 2015, 02:42:42 AM hi, with some limitation with windows 7? So is it an emulation on a macbook if I want to run a windows environment sometimes? I am worried that I cannot escape from windows very quickly. Since you have a retail copy of 7 then you can use that no problem. You have two options for running Windows on a Mac, you can either run it in a virtual machine using software such as Parallels or VirtualBox, with this you would start Windows from within MACOS and be able to switch back and forth between them as you would with any other program. Alternatively you can install it using Bootcamp which means that you pick which OS to boot when you turn the computer on. As far as the SSD - Apple seem to call it "Flash Storage" on their store. For refurbished, it really depends on how you feel, the machine may not be perfect and may have some small signs of use, it will also possibly be an older model and may not have as long a warranty. It comes down to whether the SAVING is worth it for you. |

Solve : Transfer my iPhone to new computer? |
Answer» Hey,guys! I am confused about transfering iPhone to computer. Surely you can just connect your iphone to the new computer and create a new backup within itunes by right clicking on your iphone under "Devices" and then select "Back up" from the menu that appears. If you copy your DIRECTORY structure exactly from the old pc to the new pc (Music/iTunes and Documents/iTunes) you'll get your backups. If you're not jailbroken, you don't really need your last backup. Just PLUG in to itunes on the new computer as soon as you get it and sync. New backup created. Quote from: roselina on August 15, 2011, 02:13:31 AM If you're not jailbroken, you don't really need your last backup. Just plug in to itunes on the new computer as soon as you get it and sync. New backup created.Err... I have tried this and have lost all my media... (songs, photos, videos, and apps).... however the new backup does contain the SMS, contacts, calender, notes, and user settings. The iPhone is a PITA to manage effectively... Quote from: Altsan on May 05, 2011, 04:57:52 AM If you copy your directory structure exactly from the old pc to the new pc (Music/iTunes and Documents/iTunes) you'll get your backups. This works, but make sure to copy your songs and videos to the original directories-syncing can GO awry if you don't.Nobody mentioned that one could use the Apple Cloud service. Quote from: Geek-9pm on May 19, 2015, 10:21:37 PM Nobody mentioned that one could use the Apple Cloud service. I suspect this is because the thread is from April 2011, and the Apple iCloud service was FIRST made available in October of that year. |

Answer» One day I discovered all my files I had entered on the notepad app that comes with the iPad MINI had disappeared. I was the only one using the iPad. Solve : How to downgrade from ios7/8 on an iphone?? |
Answer» I currently own an IPHONE 4S that was recently updated to ios8. The problem is that I despise the design of ios7 and higher and THEREFORE would like to downgrade the thing back to ios6. Is this possible?Well, there is no approved process to downgrade from a higher version to a lower ONE. Moreover, Apple doesn’t support downgrading; even iTunes won’t help completely in this case. Moreover, if you have already iCloud backup then restoring won’t help as I think so.It is possible to downgrade from a higher IOS version to a lower one. |

Solve : Apple's Superpower Over Android - iOS 9.1? |
Answer» Apple claims a large number of iPhones have the last version. ... the FIRST public release of iOS 9 was on September 16TH, it has taken thirty-six days to reach the current levels. While it is impressive, Apple is not as clear as its competitors in how the figures are measured. Google’s Android DASHBOARD states that its percentage breakdown is calculated by looking at every Android device that logs on to the Google Play Store over a seven-day period. Apple simply states that it is ‘measured’ by the App Store. Presumably this is a similar polling method to Google, but Apple’s statement leaves more ROOM for interpretation and confusion. You must have noticed that this is the fourth release of iOS 9 in almost as many weeks. So, what's in your iPhone? |

Solve : Macbook A1181 2139 Display black / weak?? |
Answer» Upon power on I see a temporary (~1 sec) very dim screen followed by black screen twice, then I see the box showing 'OS start-up' > 'user login screen' temporarily (still very dim) then back to black screen. The display image will brighten up enough temporarily to faintly see the display every time I press the 'CM' + 'OPT' keys. Is this a display issue, or GPU or what. This notebook has a Mini DVI graphics output but I don't have an adapter to convert mini DVI to hook up one of the external displays that I have which are VGA, HDMI or Composite. If this problem can possibly be solved via external display then I'll SPEND the $ for a Mini DVI adapter. |

Solve : Apple will help Intel make 1 Billion dollars.? |
Answer» A few months a go, back in October Intel and Apple let it be known rte next iPhone would have a new Intel CPU that would be better than anything Intel ever made. The report says Intel may capture half of all modem chips powering the upcoming iPhones, which could amount to as much as $1.25 billion in additional revenueCitation not available. Here is my question. Does anybody have some public real FACTS about this? 1 Billion for Intel is nothing really less than 2% of sales. I havent heard anything further on this, but did hear about it somewheres a few months back. Im kind of curious as to how badly Motorola took a hit when Apple left using their CPUs in 2006. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple's_transition_to_Intel_processorsIntel is in the red. So any gain is good news for the stockholders. About Motorola: Quote The handset division (along with cable set-top boxes and cable modems) was later spun off into the independent Motorola Mobility. On May 22, 2012, Google CEO Larry Page announced that Google had closed on its deal to acquire Motorola Mobility.[9] On January 29, 2014, Google CEO Larry Page announced that PENDING closure of the deal, Motorola Mobility would be acquired by Chinese technology company Lenovo for US$2.91 billion (subject to certain adjustments).[10] On October 30, 2014, Lenovo finalized its purchase of Motorola Mobility from Google.[11from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola Up to now Apple has used ARM chips. As you know, ARM is not a factory, it is a company that holds design patents. So with Motorola out, they either had to buy a factory or go with Intel. ( A chip factory is also called a foundry.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiconductor_fabrication_plant So, it is not enough to have a great design, you have to FIND a big firm that can make the chips economically. At this point in time, thee is nobody like Intel. Maybe IBM. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Intel-vs-NVIDIA-IBM-Mellanox-AMD-and-everybody-626/ So, your next Apple will have the sticker on it. I can't see what Motorola Mobility has to do with this, Apple's chips are currently made by Samsung or TSMC. There is also nothing that I can find that states that the iPhone will contain an Intel x86 CPU, more than likely (if there is any truth to the whole Intel thing at all) they are using Intel to design a system on chip that will integrate the ARM CPU with an Intel modem. To help clarify things, the CURRENT Apple chip is the A8. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_A8 Quote The A8 is manufactured on a 20 nm process[3] by TSMC,[1] which replaced Samsung as the manufacturer of Apple's mobile device processors. It contains 2 billion transistors. Despite having twice the number of transistors |

Solve : Mac book pro HDD died? |
Answer» hey folk i have mac book pro (from 2009 i think) the HDD died completly so i have replaced it with a new 500gb hdd but i cannot get it to boot from used ive followed tutorials to say to make a boot usb on windows using trancmac. but alas it will not dectect the usb or DVD Please give the model # of the Mac Book. If you have a 2009 model then you must of gotten the original system DVD discs that shipped with every Mac made before Lion came out. If you no longer have them you can order a REPLACEMENT set from Apple for a small charge. There is no other way to reinstall OS X on your model Mac without them. Then you would need to upgrade to Snow Leopard !0.6.6 or above to get access to the Mac App store to reinstall Mountain Lion. That is unless you have a Time Machine backup made when Mountain Lion was installed. If you do have a TM backup you can boot the system from the Recovery HD system on the TM backup drive and then restore that TM backup to your new HDD.So, if that is true, you can not boot it from a USB, You must have the DVD. That is the best I can do for you. You get a white screen after replacing the hard drive? As in, no Apple LOGO or any sort of message at all when you turn it on? If so I'd check on the cable connecting the screen to the logic board in case you have knocked this loose when changing the hard drive. What about using an external monitor? Even without an OS you should still get something on the screen. What are you doing to get it to boot the DVD? On a Mac you need to hold down the option key and turn it on while continuing to hold it down, this will get you into the boot device selection screen - It won't AUTOMATICALLY try to boot a DVD just because it is in the drive like PCs often do.How would I test the battery? I've assumed its working as I holds charge and runs without neededing to be plugged in .I don't have the recovery disk that's why I was trying a USB boot if I hold option I can bring up the curser as if I was selecting a boot source but nothing shows up and the laptop does not have an external display port I've also tried booting from a Ubuntu DVD and holding C to boot from DVD that does not work i have managed to get get a grey flashing folder on screen to say no folders or os(i had formatted the HDD to the wrong fromat, ive now used gparted to format it as HFS+). some progress |

Solve : Apple iPhone AC charger: How Does It Work?? |
Answer» How you EVER wondered why the Apple iPhone AC charger BLOCK is so small l and so expensive? I did, and found a blog that tears it down and reveals the amount of engineering that went into just the AC charger block. Disassembling Apple's diminutive inch-cube iPhone charger reveals a technologically advanced flyback switching power supply that goes beyond the TYPICAL charger. It SIMPLY takes AC input (anything between 100 and 240 volts) and produce 5 watts of smooth 5 volt power, but the circuit to do this is surprisingly complex and innovative. Wow! I had no idea! |
