किसी चुम्बकीय द्विध्रुव का चुम्बकीय आघूर्ण वह बल आघूर्ण है जो इस द्विध्रुव को एकांक व एकसमान चुम्बकीय क्षेत्र में क्षेत्र की दिशा के लम्बवत् रखने पर द्विध्रुव पर लगता है।

When Aurora’s husband produces Henry’s manuscript of poem to him, he admits that he has written them. But it is shameful for her that she has shown them to her husband.

Mr Henry loves Mrs Bompas. Henry writes some love poems to Aurora who is Mrs Bompas. On being asked by Mr Bompas that he has written those poems to his wife Aurora, Henry refuses pointblank. He tells him that his wife Aurora does not deserve any praise mentioned in his poems. He has no fancy for her. This infuriates Mr Bompas. He rises and attacks Henry as a furious bull. Henry like a skilful boxer skips aside but unfortunately falls over the stool behind him. Mrs Bompas with a scream rushes into the room. She sits between the two champions. She brings both Mr Teddy and Mr Henery to peace.

She fears that she may be an object of disgrace and hatred. So she thinks that if she had been christened any other name, she would have been saved from disgrace.

हैनरी, श्रीमान बोम्पास की पत्नी औरोरा से प्यार करता है। उसने उसके लिये बहुत-सी प्रेम भरी कवितायें लिखी हैं। दुर्भाग्य से कवितायें खो जाती है और उसके पति के हाथ लग जाती हैं। उसे डर है कि वह बदनामी तथा घृणा का पात्र बन सकती है। अतः वह सोचती है कि यदि उसका नाम अन्य कोई नाम रख दिया जाता तो वह बदनामी से बच जाती।

Now her husband’s anger, her disgrace in the family puzzels her day and night. She turns out to be a coward.She pleads to her lover to lie to her husband and save her from humiliation and disgrace. The young poet speaks the truth to her husband. Now she comes out as a loyal wife to her husband.

श्रीमती बोम्पास एक युवा रोमांचकारी पत्नी है। वह बहुत ही भावुक है और एक युवा कवि से प्रेम करने लगती है जो उसके पति का मित्र है। युवा कवि श्रीमान हैनरी उसके लिये कुछ प्रेम कवितायें लिखता है दुर्भाग्यवश कवितायें उसके पति के हाथ लग जाती हैं। सर्व प्रथम औरोरा वास्तविकता का एक महसूस करती है। अब रात दिन उसके पति का क्रोध और परिवार में उसकी बदनामी उसको परेशान कर रही है। वह अब डरपोक बन जाती है। वह अपने प्रेमी से मिन्नत करती है कि वह उसके पति से झूठ बोले तथा उसे अपमान और बदनामी से बचा ले। वह उसके पति से सच बोलता है। अब वह अपने पति की वफादार पत्नी के रूप में उभर कर आती है।

Aurora tells Henry that her husband has many sisters and brothers. The sisters quarrel among themselves but they are unanimous in one point. If one brother gets married, all the sisters collectively try to persuade the married brother that his wife is unfit for him.

She urges upon him to tell a lie to her husband. He lies and assures Mr Bompas that he has not written the poems as his wife has nothing praiseworthy in her. Mr Bompas is furious at Henry. He feels it a big insult and disgrace for his wife. He even attacks him to take revenge for criticizing such a fine woman. He describes countless virtiues in her by which she deserves all the praises mentioned in the love poems.

औरोरा को लिखी हुई प्रेम कवितायें, उसके पति के हाथों में पड़ जाती हैं। श्रीमती बोम्पास (औरोरा) पूर्णतः परेशान है। वह अपने आप को विनाश के कगार पर पाती है। वह अपने प्रेमी श्रीमान हैनरी से प्रार्थना करती है कि वह उसे बदनामी से बचाये। वह उस पर जोर डालती है कि वह उसके पति से झूठ बोले। वह झूठ बोलता है और बोम्पास को यकीन दिलाता है कि उसने कवितायें नहीं लिखी हैं क्योंकि उसकी पत्नी में प्रशंसा के लिये कुछ भी नहीं है। आश्चर्य की बात है कि श्रीमान बोम्पास हैनरी पर अत्यधिक क्रुद्ध है। वह इसको अपनी पत्नी के लिये बड़े अपमान और बदनामी की बात समझता है। अपनी पत्नी की आलोचना करने के कारण वह उस पर आक्रमण भी कर देता है। वह : उसके असंख्य गुण वर्णन करता है जिनके कारण वह कविताओं में वर्णित सभी प्रशंसाओं की हकदार.

She pleads Henry to lie to her husband to save her from disgrace. Henry too realizes that Mrs Bompas now falters in her love with him. Henry wonders what she sees in her husband as to stick to him as a loyal wife. He now comes out of the dreamy world. He realizes that real life is quite different from emotional life. He too comes back to the straight path of truth. He tells Mr Bompas the truth of every thing. Truth overcomes falsehood.

हैनरी श्रीमती बोम्पास से प्रेम करता है। उसकी औरोरा को लिखी प्रेम कविताएँ उसके पति के हाथों में पड़ जाती हैं। वह पूर्णतः परेशान हो जाती है। अब कवि-प्रेमी के प्रति उसका प्रेम काफूर हो जाता है। वह हैनरी से मिन्नत करती है कि वह उसके पति से झूठ बोले तथा उसे बदनामी से बचाये। श्रीमान हैनरी भी महसूस करते हैं कि उसका प्रेम अब उसके प्रति डगमगा रहा है। हैनरी को आश्चर्य होता है कि अब वह अपने पति में क्या देखती है कि एक वफादार पत्नी की तरह उससे चिपटी हुई है। अब वह स्वप्न जैसे संसार से बाहर आता है। वह अब समझता है कि वास्तविक जीवन भावनाओं के संसार से बिलकुल भिन्न होता है। वह भी अब सच्चाई के सीधे सादे रास्ते पर आ जाता है। वह श्रीमान बोम्पास को हर बात की सच्चाई बताता है। सच्चाई झूठ पर विजय प्राप्त करती है।

Mr Bompas is a robust, tall and a man of an impressive personality. He is so hale and hearty that he looks like a trained boxer. He earnestly loves his wife from the core of his heart. He is proud of being the husband of well mannered, good natured and beautiful wife. He tells Henry that she is the smartest woman in South Kensinghton and the cleverst woman and the most attractive to those who have a seeing eyes. Three of first actor managers have offered her a hundred dollar a week. One of the first professional poets in Bedford has written a sonnet for her, still she is not good enough for him. Introducing a fine woman to Henry is like casting pearls before a swine. But being a businessman, he has no time for her.

Heny Apjohn is as talented poet and an earnest lover. He is in love with Mrs Bompas. As a boy of eighteen he knows no reality. He lives a dreamy life wherein everything is possible. Whenever Aurora talks of fear and trembles thinking about her husband’s anger, he tells her “perfect love expels all fear. It means your fear shows your love for me is not ture.” In the grip of emotions he says “We shall straight go to Mr Teddy and tell him we are going to live as wife and husband.” But when he comes out of the dreamy life, he feels the sting of reality. He behaves as a reasonable gentle man.

हैनरी एपजॉन एक प्रतिभाशाली कवि ओर सच्चा प्रेमी है। वह श्रीमती बोम्पास से प्रेम करता है। अट्ठारह वर्ष का लड़का होने के कारण वह जीवन की वास्तविकता को नहीं समझता है। वह एक स्वप्न जैसी जिन्दगी जीता है जहाँ सब कुछ सम्भव है। जब कभी औरोरा उससे भय की बात करती है और अपने पति के गुस्से के बारे में सोचकर काँपने लगती है तो वह उसे बताता है “पूरी तरह सच्चा प्रेम समस्त भय को बाहर निकाल देता है। इसका यह अर्थ है कि तुम्हारा प्रेम मेरे प्रति सच्चा नहीं है।” अपनी भावनाओं की जकड़ में वह कहती है “हम सीधे श्रीमान टैडी के पास जायेंगे और उन्हें कह देंगे कि हम दोनों साथ-साथ पति-पत्नी का जीवन व्यतीत करने जा रहे हैं।” परन्तु जब वह उस स्वप्नीय जीवन से बाहर आता है तो उसे वास्तविकता के दर्द का अहसास होता है। वह एक तर्कपूर्ण शरीफ आदमी की तरह व्यवहार करता है।

Once Aurora took her husband to the theater to see the play ‘Candida’. Unfortunately her – sister-in-law Georgina was also with them. She told her brother that the play was totally immoral.She told him that in real life too she knew the sort of woman who encouraged boys to sit with her. Her clear indication was against Aurora.

एक बार औरोरा अपने पति को ‘कैन्डिडा’ नाटक दिखाने थेटर ले गई। दुर्भाग्य से उसकी ननन्द जॉर्जिना भी उनके साथ थी। उसने ३१ अपने भाई को बताया कि नाटक पूर्णतः अनैतिक है। उसने उन्हें बताया कि वास्तविक जीवन में भी वह इस प्रकार की स्त्री को जानती है जो नवयुवकों को अपने पास बैठने के लिये उत्साहित करती है ऊसका स्पष्ट संकेत औरोरा के विरुद्ध था।

Henry falls in love with Mrs Bompas. Growing emotions of love make him blind. Mrs Bompas too is the victim of such emotions because her husband is a big businessman and has no time for her. He can buy her diamonds but cannot gratify her physical and intellectual needs. Both Henry and Mrs Bompas find themselves in a difficult situation when the love poems fall into Mr Bompas’s hands. Now the emotions of love sublimate. This makes Mr Henry a reasonable person. He chooses the straight path of truth and speaks the truth. Mrs Bompas realizes her loyalty to her husband.

श्रीमती बोम्पास से प्रेम करने लगता है। बढ़ती हुई प्रेम की भावनायें उसे अन्धा बना देती है। श्रीमती बोम्पास भी इसी प्रकार की भावनाओं की शिकार है क्योंकि उसका पति एक बड़ा व्यवसाई है और उस के लिये उसके पास कोई समय नहीं है। वह उसको हीरे खरीद कर दे सकती है परन्तु उसकी शारिरिक और मानसिक आवश्यकताओं को सन्तुष्ट नहीं कर सकती। दोनों श्रीमान हैनरी और श्रीमती बोम्पास कठिन परिस्थिति में आ जाते हैं जब प्रेम भरी कवितायें श्रीमान बोम्पास के हाथों में पड़ जाती हैं। अब प्रेम कवितायें काफूर हो जाती हैं। यह श्रीमान हैनरी को एक तर्कपूर्ण व्यक्ति बना देता है। वह सच्चाई का सीधा रास्ता अपनाता है और सच बोलता है। श्रीमती बोम्पास श्रीमान टैडी जैसे पति के प्रति अपनी वफादारी को महसूस करती है।

Aurora’s husband Teddy got angry with Henry due to the following reasons :

1.Teddy began to love Aurora.

2. He wrote poems in Aurora’s praise.

3. He told a lie when he said that he did not write the poems in her praise.

4. In the end when Henry told Teddy that he did not find anything extraordinary in his wife, Teddy took it as an insult to his wife. He approached Henry to attack him. In his angry mood he insulted him by calling soapy headed little puppy.

औरोरा का पति टेडी हेनरी से निम्न कारणों से नाराज हुआ है:

1. हेनरी उसकी पत्नी को प्यार करने लगा।

2. हेनरी ने उसकी पत्नी औरोरा की प्रशंसा में कविताएँ लिखी।

3. उसने यह झूठ बोली कि उसने उन कविताओं को उसकी पत्नी की प्रशंसा में नहीं लिखी।

4.अंत में जब हेनरी ने टेडी से कहा कि वह उसकी पत्नी में कोई असाधारण बात नहीं पाता तो टेडी ने इसे अपनी पत्नी का अपमान समझा। वह हैनरी के ऊपर आक्रमण करने को आगे बढ़ा। अपने क्रोधित स्वरूप में उसे साबुन की तरह चिकने सिर वाली कुत्ते का बच्चा कहकर उसका अपमान किया।

Hearing Aurora’s provocating remark, Henry does not loose his temper. He tells her that he is different from the poet in the play ‘Candida’. He has followed the Greek ideal in love making. He tells her that her husband can work as an untrained boxer at the most for fifteen seconds. But he can keep himself out of his reach for fifteen seconds.

औरोरा की उत्तेजक टिप्पणी सुनकर हैनरी अपने संयम को बनाये रखता है। वह उसे बताता है कि नाटक ‘कैन्डिडा’ के कवि से वह पूर्णतः भिन्न है। प्रेम करने में तो उसने यूनानी आदर्श का अनुपालन किया है। वह उसे बताता है कि उसका पति अधिक-से-अधिक पन्द्रह सेकण्ड तक अप्रशिक्षित मुक्केबाज की तरह काम कर सकता है। वह पन्द्रह सेकण्ड तक स्वयं को उसकी पकड़ के बाहर रख सकता है।

The title of the play is most appropriate. Mr. Bompas is a city man. He seems to have a good mind and expert in his business. Though unromantic, yet dearly loves his wife Aurora. His wife being young and beautiful falls in love with a poet Mr Henry. His poems written in praise of Aurora fall into her husband’s hands. She becomes nervous. However her lover tells a lie to her husband. He tells him that he wrote these poems in praise of Aurora, the goodess of Dawn and not to his wife. But to his surprise the husband is furious at Henry for not praising his wife. Her husband declares that he will get those poems printed on the finest paper and get them a glorious binding with a title, ‘How He Lied to Her Husband’.

नाटक का शीर्षक बहुत ही उचित है। श्रीमान बोम्पास एक शहरी व्यक्ति है। उनके पास एक अच्छा दिमाग है और अपने कारोबार में माहिर है। यद्यपि रोमांचकारी नहीं है फिर भी अपनी पत्नी को दिल से प्यार करता है। उसकी पत्नी औरोरा नौजवान और सुन्दर होने के कारण एक युवा कवि श्रीमान हैनरी से प्यार करने लगती है। औरोरा की प्रशंसा में लिखी उसकी कवितायें उसके पति के हाथों लग जाती हैं। वह हताश हो जाती है। किसी-न-किसी तरह उसका प्रेमी उसके पति से झूठ बोलता है। वह उसे बताता है कि उसने वे कवितायें प्रभात की देवी औरोरा की प्रशंसा में लिखी थी और उसकी पत्नी को नहीं लिखी थी। परन्तु उसे आश्चर्य होता है कि उसका पति उससे इसलिये नाराज है कि उसने उसकी पत्नी की प्रशंसा नहीं की है। उसका पति घोषणा करता है कि वह उन कविताओं को सबसे बढ़िया कागज पर छपवायेगा और बड़ी शानदार जिल्द बनवायेगा जिसका शीर्षक होगा HOW HE LIED TO HER HUSBAND.

Henery told Teddy that he had written those poems in praise of Aurora, the goddess of Dawn and not in praise of his wife. There upon Teddy told him that the poems were written to a living woman. Moreover he (Henry ) had never left his bed all his life at dawn, the shivering cold time of the day. It was the solid proof of his telling a lie.

हैनरी ने श्रीमान टैडी को बताया कि उसने वे कवितायें प्रभात की देवी औरोरा की प्रशंसा में लिखी थीं और उसकी पत्नी की प्रशंसा में नहीं लिखी थीं। इस पर टैडी ने उसे बताया कि कवितायें एक जीती जागती औरत के बारे में लिखी गई हैं। इससे भी बड़ी बात यह है कि उसने प्रभात के समय कभी-भी अपना विस्तर नहीं छोड़ा जो दिन की ठण्ड से कंपकपा देने वाला समय होता है। यह उसके झूठ बोलने का ठोस सबूत है।

Aurora asked Henry to lie to her husband that Aurora was a different lady from his wife to save herself from trouble.

अपने आपको परेशानी से बचाने के लिये उसने Henry से कहा कि वह उसके पति से झूठ बोल दे कि औरोरा उसकी पत्नी से कोई भिन्न स्त्री है।
