Why HF is a weak acid as compared toother halogen acids? |
Answer» HF is the weakest acid because of it's strong H-F bond. Fluorine being small in size overlaps better with 1s orbital of hydrogen leading to a strong bond. Hence can not give proton easily. Here bond strength overweighs the electronegativity of F .As we go down the group, size of the halogens increases. This results in poor overlap of it's orbital with 1s orbital of hydrogen making the H-X bond weaker. H-I bond is the weakest of all , so it is the strongest acid. |

A hallow cylinder of resistivity p, inner radius R, outer radius 2R and length l is as show in figure. what is the net resistance between the inner and outer surface ? |
Answer» A hollow cylinder has length L and inner and outer radii a and b. It is made of a material with resistivityρρ. A potential difference is set up between the inner and outer surfaces of the cylinder, each of which is an equipotential surface) so that current flows radially through the cylinder. What is the resistance to this radial current flow? THIS IS A GENERAL FORMULA DERIVATION for RESISTANCE IN THIS CASE. substitute the given value of respective radii and get the solution. |

state four properties of neuclear force |
Answer» The nuclear force is the force that binds the protons and neutrons in a nucleus together. This force can exist between protons and protons, neutrons and protons or neutrons and neutrons. This force is what holds the nucleus together. Properties:(i) It is attractive in nature but with a repulsive core. That is the reason that the nucleus is held together without collapsing in itself. (ii) The range of nuclear force is very short. At 1 Fermi, the distance between particles in a nucleus is extremely small. At this range, the nuclear force is much stronger than the repulsive Coulomb’s force that pushes the particles away. However, if the distance is anything more than 2.5 Fermi, nuclear force is practically non-existent. (iii) The nuclear force is identical for all nucleons. It does not matter if it is a neutron or proton, once the Coulomb resistance is taken into consideration, nuclear force affects everything in the same way. (iv) At a distance less than 0.7 Fermi, this force becomes repulsive. It is one of the most interesting properties of nuclear force, as this repulsive component of the force is what decides the size of the nucleus. The nucleons come closer to each other till the point that the force allows, after which they cannot come any closer because of the repulsive property of the force. nuclear force are 2 types nuclear fusion and fission nuclear fusion - when 2 atoms are applied force to join it which produces a huge amount of electricity than fission fission - when 1 atom are separated into two and produces energy |

Explain the role of latent heat in the changeof state of a substance.#4.13 Marks/ |
Answer» Latent heat is the amount of thermal energy, per mole, that must be added to a substance to change its state from solid to liquid or liquid to gas, or the energy given off in going the other direction, in every case at constant temperature. It’s called “latent” because it’s a latent property of the substance which originates from the collective structure of the atoms or molecules, for example, ice going to water requires energy to break the intermolecular bonds keeping H2O in a solid state, and water going to steam requires still more energy to break the (weaker) liquid-state intermolecular bonds. |

defination of simple pendulum |
Answer» Apendulumis a weight suspended from apivotso that it can swing freely. When a pendulum is displaced sideways from its resting, equilibrium position, it is subject to arestoring forcedue togravitythat will accelerate it back toward the equilibrium position. When released, the restoring force acting on the pendulum's mass causes it tooscillateabout the equilibrium position, swinging back and forth. The time for one complete cycle, a left swing and a right swing, is called theperiod. The period depends on the length of the pendulum and also to a slight degree on theamplitude, the width of the pendulum's swing. |
