Answer» NEW from Comodo. System Cleaner Disk Registry Cleaner Speed Up PCs by Comodo CSC allows users of all experience levels to thoroughly clean their SYSTEMS of damaging and/or wasteful files, boost system performance and unlock the full power of any Windows XP or Vista computer.Sounds good. How does this compare to CCleaner, would you say?I ran it last night, only a few scans and it is a worthy contender. A LOT of stuff to click. Too much to remember There is a scan for removing EVERYTHING that might be just taking up space. I mean something for everything. You just have to see for yourself. Even autorun tools...Will make some time soon to check this out, thanks for the heads up EF Had SOMEONE report that the registry cleaner killed the computer so be very careful with that if you so dare to run it so stick with CC for now?Yea unless you are into risk taking.Yeah, I've read about this tool some days ago, but we have to be really careful with promoting it, because we know how some people are. They'll jump on it, and the disaster is in making.Quote from: Broni on March 13, 2009, 05:22:20 PM Yeah, I've read about this tool some days ago, but we have to be really careful with promoting it, because we know how some people are. They'll jump on it, and the disaster is in making. Like what happened with Vista? I think, we should keep SAYING to people: Unless, you're an expert, whatever cleaning program you use, leave the registry aloneDone and done |

Answer» https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10897 Checks your bookmarks are valid and the pages still exist. Also checks for duplicates and for empty folders. Cool...i'll check it out,,, Been using AM Dead Link for this for years...Yeah, I couldn't RECALL AM Dead, so I found this one. It's still listed as experimental add-on, but it worked fine here.Does it simply dump the duplicates ? ? Can you use it to sync more than one MACHINE ? ?Just to be safe, you may check all entries, it WANTS to delete, because in my case, it deleted one entry, which I didn't want to delete. Two entries were like: something 1 something 2 It deleted one of them. As for sync, I use Foxmarks...works very good.I thought this was a place name search or something from the title.... Solve : Panda USB and AutoRun Vaccine 1.0.0.19 Beta? |
Answer» This is a great tool if it works good. Enabling autoruns are one of the least realized mistakes that users make. The free Panda USB VACCINE allows users to vaccinate their PCs in order to disable AutoRun completely so that no program from any USB/CD/DVD drive (regardless of WHETHER they have been previously vaccinated or not) can auto-execute. This is a really helpful feature as there is no user FRIENDLY and easy way of completely disabling AutoRun on a Windows PC. |

Solve : Wireless Wizard? |
Answer» HERE Display a great deal of information about your current wireless connection. This freebie is designed to work with the Azulstar WiFi provider, which runs municipal networks throughout the country, but it's even useful for those who aren't Azulstar customers. It displays information about your current wireless connection, INCLUDING SSID, signal strength, access point channel, gateway, the domain of your Internet provider, and much more. But it goes BEYOND that as well, and offers a set of troubleshooting tools, by checking to SEE if you have any problems with your IP address, signal strength, and so on. It's generally a useful tool, particularly because it's free. But it also occasionally makes mistakes, for example, reporting that you have poor wireless LINK quality, when in fact it's good. Still, you can't argue with free. PC World is REALLY getting on my nerves....2 re-directs while DLoading. I sent them a pretty subtle 2 page email.... Yeah I tried this YESTERDAY. Pretty strange downloading process...Direct download: http://www.azulstar.com/ |

Solve : CrystalMark - cool benchmark utility? |
Answer» http://release.crystaldew.info/CrystalMark2004 If you would like to find a standard way to compare performance between various PC systems, you may want to run this benchmarking tool. Named as CrystalMark, it is a comprehensive performance benchmarking tool that lets users test the full system INCLUDING CPU, memory, HARD disk drive as well as graphics tests such as GDI, D2D and OGL. Once downloaded and installed the software utility, just unzip the folders and double click the CrystalMark09.exe to launch the test. On the main menu, there are various tests such as Mark, ALU, FPU, MEM, HDD and more being listed and clicking on it will run the test respectively with scores displayed next to the test buttons. Users can choose to run separate test individually or all and the total score will be summed up for comparison with other platforms. Good thing is, users can saved the results in text or HTML for easy extraction and compilation. That is not all, there are some useful information regarding the CPU, system BIOS, chipset, feature sets that can be displayed once users enter the respective tabs so that they can make apple to apple comparison across various platforms. The tool is quit famous in Japan market and has been widely USED by Japanese company to compare some new solutions from chipmakers before deciding a new design with it. It is compatible with 32-bit Windows OS such as 2000/2003/XP and even Vista OS I manage to get zero done thanx to you and this Topic section.... That's the whole point My motto: disturb, disturb, disturb................................ ...................patio Very cool. I just happened to create a post earlier in the SBCC section for users to post their benchmarking scores using PassMark. I'm liking this one a lot BETTER since it seems to be 100% free. I created another post for users to post their scores when using CrystalMark. I happened to score 80092 with this computer. Crashed first run on the Win2K machine...2ND run seemed alright. |

Solve : Q-Dir? |
Answer» HERE MANAGE files and directories using multiple panes. Anyone frustrated with the single-pane interface of Windows Explorer will welcome Q-Dir with open arms. This fantastic and free file MANAGEMENT program uses four panes to make it easy to copy and move files AMONG directories and folders, and even across your network. Run the program, then use each individual pane for navigation, including navigating your networks. You can copy and move files and directories among them. No more opening multiple instances of Windows Explorer. You can drag and drop files to move them, not only among the panes, but also to or from another program such as Windows Explorer. You can customize the views in each pane, such as by changing the size of the icons. There are also a lot of extras, such as file filters, and the use of color to highlight different kinds of files. In short, if you want a file management program, this is a great one--and it's free as well. I've been playing with it, and I like it a lot...It's like a Super-Mega enhanced File Manager!LINK?It manages Files? Explorer only has one pane, this program has four- Windows 3.1 File manager could open as many panes as you wanted. Well, they were actually MDI child windows, but that isn't the point- except Q-Dir actually shows shell namespaces. |

Solve : CleanHandlers - AutoPlay Cleanup Utility for XP and Vista? |
Answer» http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/CleanHandlers.shtml AutoPlay or AutoRun is a menu that POPS up and displays or action that executes automatically when a CD or DVD is inserted into CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, or when a removable drive such as USB Flash drive, memory card and external hard disk been plugged into the computer. In Vista, the AutoPlay menu is shown, and in XP, a AutoPlay tab is available for the each drive’s Properties. The menu lists all the AutoPlay Handlers for each EVENT that are possible. In some cases, an orphaned or invalid junk entry might appear in the AutoPlay list of options window, as a result of incomplete uninstall of a software (such as Music MATCH Jukebox, Nikon View etc). The CleanHandlers helps you remove the invalid entries from the listing. Even if you’re not aware that an item is invalid, this UTILITY can find invalid AutoPlay entries and also remove them automatically, such as items that as sub-titled as or “Select an action to perform” box is completely blank for an event. Users can use CleanHandlers to remove UNWANTED entries from the AutoPlay window too. |

Solve : Win7codecs 1.0.1 Final? |
Answer» http://majorgeeks.com/Win7codecs_d6103.html Codecs have been a problem for most users at one time or another. This is because there has never been an 'out of the BOX' working solution that the average computer user could install and just have everything work properly from the beginning. There are several decent codec package solutions out there, but none of them did everything I wanted. I was always in need of a tweak, adjustment, or even a re-installation just to get the codecs I needed/wanted and most of the time, the file still didn't play properly. I've never CLAIMED to be a media guru. My media experience prior to creating these packages was to doubleclick a file I downloaded and hope that it played. So with the help of the MSFN community, I decided to package up the bare minimum of codecs required by most computer users and share them with the rest of the world. The installer will automatically remove most other popular codec releases from your computer before installing this concise yet comprehensive package. You won't need to make any adjustments or tweaks to enjoy your media content immediately. Windows Media Player and Windows 7 Media Center will instantly recognize all your files as playable. It does not contain a media player and it does not associate filetypes. With this package installed you will be able to use any media player, limited only by the players' capabilities, to play all movies and video clips. Streaming video is SUPPORTED in several formats in all popular web browsers. Users of Win7 codecs have the ability to choose what is installed and where to install it using the public redistributable. After installation you can select to remove specific portions without removing the ENTIRE package. You can also re-add the removed items at any time. MSFN has been a wealth of knowledge over the years...from the Unofficial SP for Win 98 to their guides on slipstreaming and trimming down an OS install they have contributed much to the computing Community.... Well Done again i say. |

Solve : Increase Download Speed by Disable Vista Auto Tuning on TCP/IP? |
Answer» http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/05/24/increase-multithread-download-speed-by-disable-vista-auto-tuning-on-tcpip/I remember how I got owned bad by one of those "increase your Internet speed!" applications about 10 years ago. I paid $30 for an APP called "Internet Boost" because I was only connecting at 24k when I had a 56k modem. Of course, the Boost app only tweaked a few TCP parameters to MAKE webpages display a little more QUICKLY; I was still only connecting at 24K but I was so happy at the time because there was an APPARENT increase in the speed of webpage downloads. Later on I found the problem was that my dialup modem was connecting to a phone line splitter, hence I had half the 56K speed I was expecting. An upgrade to a cable modem fixed this problem. Here's an article that explains what Auto Tuning is designed to do, and offers some suggestions for troubleshooting your Internet connection before resorting to turning AT off: http://blogs.msdn.com/wndp/archive/2007/07/05/receive-window-auto-tuning-on-vista.aspx Dial-up is a whole DIFFERENT story. Broadband tweaks work.Additionally I don't recall any price on this tweak |

So you prefer this over QMC? I might give it a try then.No I mean Quick Media Converter is my favotite.Or Foobar. I had a few files that were creating errors in QMV and Foobar converted them no problem.lol, funny thing is, if it was a newbie that posted, my spamflag would have gone up. I'm LOOKING for another program to do this, ConvertXtoDVD is a giant flop, and refuses to create ISOs half the time. I'll also try QMV and foobar. I ALREADY converted most of the videos to DVD, but if these make the TASK less annoyingly messy I'm all for it.QMV is very simple. Foobar is a bit confusing. I had to follow a few different tutorials to get it figured out... QMV homepage http://www.cocoonsoftware.com/Thanks for the link, Broni. I like the youtube download feature. |

Solve : AM-DeadLink? |
Answer» If you’re like me, you accumulate many bookmarks/favorites over time. I recently had over 2500 bookmarks in Firefox. Often, OLDER ones are no longer valid, or have redirected to another URL. Reviewing them by simply working down through them from within the browser tends to be a very slow process. This process becomes much more efficient by using AM-Deadlink. From the developer’s WEBSITE: AM-DeadLink detects dead links and duplicates in browser bookmarks and text files. If a bookmark has become unavailable you can verify and delete it permanently. Additionally you can download FavIcons for all your Favorites and Bookmarks.AM-Deadlink generates a separate list of bookmarks to work from, separate from your browser. Changes you make within this list can then be permanently saved to your browser's bookmarks. A side benefit of cleaning up dead links, if you have many and your total number of bookmarks is high, may be a little faster responsiveness from your browser. I've noticed Firefox now launches faster after I first start my computer and first start Firefox. Good app...been using it for a few years. Warning to first time users: When you run it plan on enjoying the Adult beverage of your choice and getting some laundry DONE...it will TAKE awhile. Obviously each scan gets quicker as time goes on.Very nice. Thanks! So many errors and 404s.....it pains me to see them....whoever thought of the HTTP error codes wasn't very adventurous. I would have called it the 007 error. Much funner to say. |
