Answer» LET the quantity of milk BOUGHT be x litres Cost of milk = RS. 2.50 per litre ∴ Total cost of milk = 2.50 × x = Rs. 2.5x Water added = 4 litres ∴ Total quantity of the mixture = (4 + x) litres ∴ Total selling PRICE of the mixture = 2.50 × (4 + x) = Rs. (10 + 2.5x) Now, gain = 5% ∴ Gain = (Gain % × Cost price)/100 ⇒ Selling price – Cost price = (5 × 2.5x)/100 ⇒ (10 + 2.5x) – 2.5x = 2.5x/20 ⇒ 10 = 2.5x/20 ⇒ 200 = 2.5x ⇒ x = 80 litres |
