Y = x2 , a continuous function on [-2, 2] and dierentiable on [-2, 2] f(2) = 4 = f(-2). 

All conditions of Rolles theorem is satised. 

Given 

the tangent is parallel to x-axis. 

f -1 (x) = 2x 

f-1 (c) = 2c

f-1 (c) = 0 ⇒ 2c = 0 ⇒ c = 0 ∈ [-2, 2] 

where c = 0, y = 0 

Therefore (0, 0) is the required point.
