Solve : C Drive Memory fluctuations?

Answer»

Hi,

I have a year old Lenovo MODEL 2561 Desktop PC with RAM of 8GB running off Intel Core i3 processor and 1 TB memory. I'm getting fluctuations in how much C Drive memory is showing as used up ranging from nearly 800 GB yesterday to 300GB today. Don't have a lot of files but QUITE a few photos on c drive. Can anyone advise why C Drive Capacity fluctuations occur and whether this is normal? Many Thanks. You mean 1 TB hard disk size, not "memory". Possibly the drive is faulty, or you could have a virus, I suppose.
lol.... i wish i had 1 tb of memory

i think you probably do have a virus

You should scan you computer for viruses

I would use malware bytes, but if the PROBLEM continues

Boot CD - go to these places, download, and burn the ISOs to CD's.
AVG Rescue CD
Kaspersky
Comodo

Put one of the disks you make from these in the DVD drive
Restart the PC
When it asks to boot from CD or DVD, say yes (or press any key)
Follow the instructions and clean any viruses it finds
Repeat for the othersMalwareBytes is not an anti virus application, though scanning with it IN ADDITION to scanning with an anti virus app is highly recommended. Also, you can download treesize and see where the space is being used: http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/

And there is no need to scan from a cd - you can scan from within Windows. Thanks for the ideas/suggestions. Really helpful. Regards Segdsg in UKI would also advise that you check the drive as well. You can usually get diagnostics from the manufacturer's site, or you can get a utility (such as Hiren's BootCDD) to test the drive fully. A check disk may not be a thorough enough check, but it could also be of use.

If the drive checks out fine than I'd agree that its most LIKELY a virus or malware issue.Memory = RAM...
Storage/empty space = HDD free space/capacity.
