Let two consecutive number is x and( x+1)x^2 +(x+1)^2=85x^2+x^2+2x+1=852x^2+2x=85-12x^2+2x=842(x^2+x)=84x^2+x=42x^2+x-42=0x^2-6x+7x-42=0x(x-6)7(x-6)=0(x-6)(x+7)=0x=6,-7If x is 6 then the other number (x+1) is 7 and if x=-7 then the other number ( x+1) is -6.Prove : x=6 (6)^2+(7)^2=36+49=85 x=-7 ( -7)^2 +(-6)^2 = 49+36=85 Hence the two numbers are 6 and 7
