Prove that 3 + root 2 is irrational |
| Answer» Let\'s assume to the contrary that 3+root 2 is rational. Therefore converting it in the form a/b where a and b are co primes.therefore a/b =3+root2a/b-3=root2 Now since a and b are integers so a/b-3 is rational. Thus root 2 is rational. But it contradicts the fact that root 2 is irrational. This contradiction arouse due to incorrect assumption that 3+root 2 is rational. Thus 3+root 2 is irrational. | |
