Solve : able to watch videos, but no sound available?

Answer»

on sites such as youtube.com and google video, i am able to watch the videos, but there are no audio sounds available. same with sites like myspace, can't hear any music coming from ppl's pages or from juno.co.uk, i can't hear samples of artist's music. if the site is windows media player based, i can hear the music. no problems hearing my own mp3s. i've tried on both IE and firefox

is it a macromedia flash problem? i've been troubleshooting through that, installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc.

or is my system missing something that i don't know about....? this could be the case as i had to get a whole new motherboard done. old drive was SAVED, but i'm not sure if everything was installed back correctly.

i'm sorry is this is the wrong forum, i didn't know where to put this question...

any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance

It's probably a CODEC problem. Click on the software link in my SIGNATURE. Scroll down that page to the multimedia section. Install "The-Codecs".unfortunately, that didn't work..
thank you, thoughMaybe your sound driver was corrupted? Reinstall it or update it (if possible). Maybe the computer's ability to play .wav (Wave) files is impaired. Macromedia Flash needs Wave drivers (or whatever) to play sounds. :-/ I dunno. Give it a shot.Quote

Wave drivers
Something like that should (theoretically) be fixed by the CODEC installation.

That Realtek AC '97 Audio is a fussy blighter. You MUST ensure that you have your motherboard vendor/PC MANUFACTURER's specific sound drivers installed. What make and model is your new motherboard? If you need help finding that out, use one of the system information programs from the software FAQ. (System Information for Windows is my current favourite.)
